60. Empty Garden (40): I don't recall this song being a hit back home, but as shared before, we had the Jump Up! LP at home, so I played this song quite a lot. This was actually one of my favorites off this album. I like the production, melody and vocals, and especially the melody and harmonies in the last part of the song. At least it made the top 60 in this RD. 59. The Other Woman (62): Fair ranking. I like the melody and music in the chorus, but the verses are a bit underwhelming. 58. Crimson & Clover (58): P-P-P-P-PERFECT Ranking! I liked the extra oomph and rock attitude that Joan gave to this song. 57. Chariots of Fire (38): Awwwwww. One of the modern classics, and my favorite instrumental song of the 1980s. Superb melody and instrumentation that takes you to a calmer but epic place. Far too low in this RD! Deserved to at least make the top half. 56. Hard To Say I'm Sorry (14): Not a surprise at all, as Pulse really hates Chicago! LOL. This was a big hit back home, with pretty good recurrent airplay. I was surprised when I bought the Heart of Chicago CD in the 90s and I listened to the longer version with the more random uptempo, dance, brass-heavy last minute. Regardless, I love this song as a ballad, in terms of melody, vocals, harmony, and musicality behind, including piano and guitars. This and Street Player are my favorite Chicago songs. Wish it had made the top 50 at least 55. Did It In a Minute (54): Almost-perfect ranking! Nice little pop song, but H&O has had many much better songs. 54. Do I Do (43): Quite a fun pop song, with a pretty nice, quasi-Latin-flavored groove, music, melody and of course vocals. 53. That Girl (81): This was a first listen for this RD, and an underwhelming one My least favorite Stevie song this year. And with this one, I finally cleared my bottom 20 :) 52. Make A Move On Me (73): I've always considered this one a cousin of Donna Summer's The Wonderer, especially in the intro and verses. The chorus is the best part of this song, but even then it's just not up to par with Olivia's best ones. 51. Love's Been A Little Bit Hard On Me (42): Awwww. I loved the nostalgic but fun vibe of this song back in the day. My mom was a fan of Juice, and I remember both trying to figure out the lyrics :) I still love the happy pop vibe, the lead vocals and male background vocals. Wanted to see it in the top 50, but I guess it was close enough.

#60. Empty Garden (Hey, Hey Johnny) - Elton JohnDecent song, but it was time for it to exit. #59. The Other Woman - Ray Parker Jr.I'm not gonna lie. I liked this one because of the guitars. #58. Crimson and Clover - Joan Jett & The BlackheartsThis is wAAAAAAAAAAAAAAy too low for Joan Jett and The Blackhearts music. #57. Chariots Of Fire - VangelisThis was everywhere, but i never really cared for it. Classic Cheese fest at best. #56. Hard To Say I'm Sorry - ChicagoThis is the best Chicago song of the 80's. Oh well.... #55. Did It In A Minute - Hall & OatesA little too "fresa" for this duo. This is about where it belongs. #54. Do I Do - Stevie WonderI didn't care for this at all. to top it off I listened to that 10:00 album track. Big mistake on my part. #53. That Girl - Stevie WonderI hated this song when I was young. I knocked out "Shake It Up" from it's peak. #52. Make A Move On Me - Olivia Newton-JohnI was in love with Olivia Newton's-John's vocals for many years. This song is ULTRA SEXY. #51. Love's Been A Little Bit Hard On Me - Juice NewtonVery fun song and music video..

10 bottom 50s remaining...pretty much all of them (inexplicably, imo) fairly popular though, so I'm just praying they're close to gone before the top 20.

I'm the highest ranker for this song? Really? I heard this song just a few weeks ago, during a wing-eating contest at Beef O'Brady's on St. Patrick's Day. The winner of the contest won free beer with the purchase of a meal during each new visit to that specific location for the rest of the year. These two Stevie Wonder songs were each sampled in a rap song: "Livin' It Up" by Ja Rule, and "So Many Tears" by 2Pac, respectively. The synth intro grabbed me, and the rest of the song was excellent. She has nice legs too.

Turn Your Love Around George Benson
Total Points: 1259
Billboard Hot 100: 5
Billboard Top 100 of 1982: 27
From: The George Benson Collection
Winning Best R&B Song at the 25th Grammy Awards in 1983, "Turn Your Love Around" was released in October of 1981, peaking at No. 5 on the Billboard Hot 100 the week ending February 6, 1982.Β It was one of the first pop hits to use a Linn LM-1 drum machine, programmed by the session drummer Jeff Porcaro.[
Another great song gone too soon smh

Pretty good set. Didn't lose anything that I really care about, and my last bottom 20 is out.
Really glad to see one song, in particular, make the top 40. I won't mention it by name, lest I jinx it.

Doing pretty good on this one. Only 3 songs left in my bottom half: 58-73-75 and I suspect #75 will make the top 20 or top 10. Lost only one from my top 20 and 2 more in the 21-30 range.

50. You Can Do Magic (17): Oh, no! Second top 20 loss already :(( This was a favorite of mine in 1982, and still is an 80s favorite. I love the melody, vocals and harmonies, the percussion-heavy but smooth and elegant music. It was a yearend top 20 back home. Sad to see it go this early :(( 49. I Keep Forgettin' (37): I don't remember hearing this in the 80s -but I do remember Regulate from the 1990s. Michael has such a buttery, silky voice, and many of his songs have this sexy, warm vibe that become quite irresistible. This is one of them. Good to see it make the top half. 48. Somebody's Baby (69): Nice, early 80s type of pop song. I can see it having some extra nostalgia factor due to its inclusion in a popular movie soundtrack. It didn't click that much with me in this RD to escape my bottom 1/3. 47. Freeze-Frame (59): One of those fun rock'n'rollish songs of the early 80s, that I kinda liked back in the day, but I don't use as often nowadays... 46. Turn Your Love Around (80): Not bad for a first listen. Lack of familiarity and uniqueness affected my rank. And with the gone, I cleared my bottom 35. Yay!! 45. You Should Hear How She Talks About You (49): I've always liked this song as well, especially the melody in the darker intro and verses. Fair position in this RD. 44. Think I'm In Love (34): I really liked this song and video back in 1982! That rock-pop beat, with a cool guitar-based bridge, strong vocals including in the outro were a pretty good combo for me, and a good song to listen to during road trips :) A yearend top 25 back home, with good recurrent airplay. 43. Open Arms (24): Geez!!! Quite the hate to ballads this year Outstanding vocals, strong musicality, and great production that turned this into a big classic. 42. Trouble (31): I wasn't a huge fan of this song in 1982. I grew to like it much more with time, starting at the end of the decade. Now I really like the melancholic, nostalgic vibe of the song, his great vocals and backing vocals, and especially those guitar and drum sounds throughout the song. Plus, I think Lindsey is a superb musician and singer :) 41. Don't Talk To Strangers (65): A catchy chorus, but with weaker verses. Nice bop that I liked a bit more back in the day. With this one gone, I'm happy I cleared my bottom 40.
