Eh, even if you buy into a conspiracy scenario, I really don't see this as Lana Del Rey-centric. The "narrative" artists are Lizzo, Billie Eilish and Ariana Grande. The former two had the breakthrough years, while Ariana arguably cemented her icon status after years of being right on the cusp. So - if there's someone who they wanted to "screw" by nominating the other alternative acts (including Lana) - it's Billie Eilish. Is Eilish really seen as alternative, though? She's known for a mainstream hit, and she's nominated in Pop Solo and Pop Album. Even with the mainstream success, alt/modern rock is still Billie's default radio format if nothing else. It's the only place she's had multiple number ones. But my post was more about the perspective of how one is viewing the race. Going into this morning, there was a lot of buzz around the Billie Eilish vs. Lizzo battle. So, if you're going to screw someone to support Lizzo, you're going to screw Billie Eilish. And I think Lana Del Rey for sure, and to a lesser extent Vampire Weekend and Bon Iver, cut into Billie's potential vote. The post I quoted made it seem like this race was all about Lizzo vs. Lana.

Multiple people at least said they could see her getting general field nods. Additionally one of those posts referred to other sources predicting her being this year's Kacey. So, my original post that you replied to was correct in saying "some people" predicted it. You asked who, so I gave some links. It ain't that deep. It was deep enough for you to dig through some old ass posts to use as receipts in your rebuttal. Dig through? I searched this thread for "Kacey" and copy and pasted links from the post #. It took all of 1-2 minutes. And I was answering a question you asked.

These Grammy people aren't capable of that much cunning IMO. All they ever do is nominate who they think won't get them in trouble based on the year before's backlash. LOL
They returned to form with a bunch of nods for critical darling rock and/or AAA types, some pop people musicians can tolerate, a big seller and (lately) a hip hop record. They snubbed country this year... it's always a toss up if we see country or jazz represented at all in AOTY.

Billie and Ariana have the media narrative for all the obvious reasons, but do they have the right material and timing with the actual voters? I don't think so.

Brave prediction but I think LNX's career might be doomed after this. I haven't seen anyone saying 7 belongs to the AOTY list and it can't do a favor for him in the public eye. Trust , the GP won’t give a shit and he will just meme it to death and probably get another hit out of it

Yes, replace LNX and VW with Tyler and ASIB/Lover and that'd be all right IMO.
I can live with Bon Iver there although it's not my cup of tea.

i could if it were 2007 or 2011 when he dropped actual good albums
this one seemed like such a non-event, even with alt/indie/rock fans

The Vampire Weekend album had solid reviews, and they're previous Grammy winners. Love them and the nominations!

So - if there's someone who they wanted to "screw" by nominating the other alternative acts (including Lana) - it's Billie Eilish. Is Eilish really seen as alternative, though? She's known for a mainstream hit, and she's nominated in Pop Solo and Pop Album. LDR and Billie are kind of similar in that regard - they're both viewed as 'alternative' by the very audience that made them pop stars. LDR always submits her albums and singles to pop. The main difference is that Billie seems to have pulled off establishing herself as a mainstream presence, while LDR has more or less remained a cult status artist (nothing wrong with that). And I do see a lot of people online constantly saying that Lana (and Lorde) walked so that Billie could run. So I can see why LDR might be perceived as a threat to Billie's AOTY chances. Did Billie submit anything to the alt or rock perf/song categories? I was hoping she'd send her album there because (assuming a nomination came through) she'd have less stiff competition than she does in pop album. But if she did submit anything there, the lack of resulting nod means she doesn't really have any alt/rock support in the industry. Brave prediction but I think LNX's career might be doomed after this. I haven't seen anyone saying 7 belongs to the AOTY list and it can't do a favor for him in the public eye. Eh, LNX getting an AOTY will not doom him any more than it did Post Malone last year, or Katy Perry that one year she got nominated. Him putting out a weak second album/EP would, but we have yet to see how his follow-up will be received.

Taylor and Beyonce were both robbed for album of the year nominations. Katy Perry and Halsey were both robbed for Pop vocal solo performance for NRO and Without Me. Lil Nas X getting any nominations is a joke.

Yeah, Tyler is the only person I'm legitimately pissed over. Igor should be in AOTY over Lil Nas X no question. He deserved more.

Last time I heard from Tyler, he was making Satanic grunts over weird beats and spewing homophobia and then I heard he is a gay so idk, but I don't listen to his music.

I'm happy that Camila and Shawn got a nomination for pop vocal performance by a duo or group for Senorita.

Quite a lot of surprises. Hopefully Billie wins ROTY, Taylor gets SOTY and Lana snatches AOTY. Would be incredibly fair tbh. But there a lot of strong contenders for these general categories and Lizzo and Ariana also deserve some recognition.
Lil Nas X getting an AOTY nom is just plain stupid. I also don't know why the Grammys have to kiss Beyoncé's ass every time, Spirit and The Gift don't make any sense on the pop categories...
I agree some people deserved noms, Mariah and Madonna had great and cohesive albums and they are nowhere to be found. Some more unknown acts should have gotten more love too but I'm quite happy for Tove Lo for getting a nom!!

Especially with Rapsody getting noms before and this album had a 90 on Metacritic!! Idk what they are basing it off of anymore at this point.

I honestly think the majority of the nominations this year are pretty fair and deserving. There's a few here or there I don't agree with, but I wasn't expecting absolute perfection because no one ever gets it perfect. As long as those weird outliers don't win, it's fine. And what's more, all of the major snubs in my eyes got nominated elsewhere (Igor in Rap, ASIB in Soundtrack, etc.)
My biggest complaint is there seems to have been a slight favoritism in chart success over quality this year, and I hope that doesn't translate into the winners. And the genres are mucked up a bit, but what else is new?
Happy to see a few left nominations outside of the general fields. Lizzo got 2 different album tracks nominated, which is dope. My girl JoJo got a Grammy nomination!!! It's as a feature, but still a win for her. Really happy to see Always Remember Us This Way get more love than I'll Never Love Again.
It's not a great year, but I'm not really upset by any of these nominations much. I'd say it's on par with last year's and both this and last year were vast improvements over the last several years of huge snubs left and right.
It is a little disappointing to see Maren Morris get skipped over. Megan Thee Stallion really deserved some recognition as well.

I don't know how I missed that Megan Thee Stallion didn't get nominated at all. I was expecting a BNA nod if nothing else. And the rap field in general is kind of a mess tbh. I guess rap album is...okay (I need to listen to a couple of them to have a fair opinion), but the perf and song categories have me feeling unsettled. With that said, Megan is still in 'mixtape' mode and I feel like her hype train has been a more gradual build, so I'm okay with it not being her time just yet. Nicki and Rapsody lack the inside support at the moment, for different reasons.
AOTY is kind of interesting the more I look at it because there's no one who really has a solid grip on one voter base there.
- Bon Iver and Vampire Weekend are both up for alternative album, but BI got the ROTY nod while Vampire Weekend is the one with the rock song nomination. This tells me that Iver is the slightly more favored one with the committee but Weekend is the slightly more favored one among rock voters, and that split will likely carry over to AOTY to cancel each other out. - LDR has no genre support, plus will be overshadowed by the newer, shinier model (Billie)... - ...but Billie will lose some of her support to the Lana lovers. - Ariana's the only 'pure' pop nominee, but in a year where the biggest nominees across the board are Lizzo, Billie, and LNX, being pure pop might not be enough. Ariana does not have that "genre bending" narrative that the new kids do. Plus, she and Billie are pop vocal album competitors so they directly hurt each other in AOTY as they will take pop votes away from each other. LNX missed PVA entirely so he probably has no real shot in AOTY but is just enough of a presence to hurt Ariana and Billie further. - I also wouldn't be surprised if Lizzo doesn't get as many votes as she otherwise would bc she does have pop fans, but Ariana/Billie/LNX are there to take them. - H.E.R. and Lizzo are the only two who have their album genre categories to themselves (r&b and urban contemporary, respectively), but those two categories are genre-adjacent, and both have r&b perf nominations. At the Soul Train Awards, H.E.R. and Lizzo were nominated in a few categories together and each took at one win over the other. People may want to write H.E.R. off as filler, but this is her second year in a row getting five nominations, including AOTY both times. She actually came in even stronger this time since she locked down ROTY and SOTY - she, Lizzo, and Billie are the only three artists this year to be in all of the 'big 3' categories. This is without mentioning the lowkey pushback that Lizzo has been getting from some of the urban community since her explosion. On her own this wouldn't matter much, but with a critical fave like H.E.R. in the mix, it's a problem. H.E.R. won two of her r&b categories last year; she clearly has her supporters. - None of these artists has anything that strikes me as a strong draw for country or jazz voters. The rap contingent would likely favor H.E.R. or Lizzo more.
I lean toward Lizzo having the edge overall but with all the cross-competition for votes, it's not a very big one. Lizzo or H.E.R. pulling off an upset would be my AOTY prediction.

My girl JoJo got a Grammy nomination!!! It's as a feature, but still a win for her. I don't think JoJo got that nomination, unfortunately. Say So was nominated for R&B Song, but PJ Morton is the only credited writer.

I honestly couldn't remember if Rasopdy released during the eligibility period or not. But if she did, she's right up there with Igor as snub of the year. At least Igor got a rap album nod. Damn.
