OFFICIAL!!! #1 also on Billboard Country Airplay, moves from #8 to #1!!!!!! Scotty McCreery has reached #1 on the Billboard Country Airplay chart with his latest single “In Between.” The advance release of the chart shows “In Between” jumping from number eight to number one this week. This marks Scotty’s third career chart topper. I fact, it is his third consecutive #1 single. The previous number ones were “Five More Minutes” and “This Is It.” All three of Scotty’s number one singles can be found on his fourth studio album Seasons Change. The #1 selling album and chart topping singles are available everywhere now. “In Between” took 63 weeks to reach number one. It just misses breaking the record set by Travis Denning (65 weeks) just a few weeks ago with “After A Few.” Congratulations to Scotty McCreery on his #1 single “In Between.” www.wbwn.com/2020/06/22/scotty-mccreey-in-between-reaches-number-one/

This is one of those songs, ya it took well over a year to get this far and hit #1 but I would still be in favor of it if it took 70 weeks. This is one of my favorites from 2019 and favorite of mine from Scotty and love it has that throwback sound to it while staying relevant to today. I can't wait for his next record! Love that Thirty Tigers is behind Scotty and glad to have him part of their team.

Well besides Garth debuting at #1.

I love this song and I am glad it hit the top, even if it did take a super long time. I wonder if there is a chance for this to go from 8-1-8 spending only 1 week in the top 5.

I am generally angry that songs are allowed to take so long to peak at #1, but I am happy Scotty has his third consecutive #1 almost ten years into his career. His output, to me, has much more substance than some of the other songs taking a year to hit the top (Travis Denning, Jimmie Allen).
I wish his Idol counterpart (and, well, women artists in general) would have the same success with song longevity on the chart... both of their stuff moves at snail pace but one is allowed to top the chart while the other is not.

Even though he went from 8 to 1, five of those 7 songs above him were heading down if you include Carly/Lee having already peaked at #1. The only 2 above him that were still rising were Kenny and Luke and the push week allowed In Between to pass both of them. Pretty impressive that Triple Tigers is so far 6 for 6 with all 3 songs from both Russell and Scotty hitting #1. That streak may end soon, but that's pretty darn good.

Regardless of whether you like or dislike Scotty and/or this song, it is ludicrous that a song that has spent over 14 months on the chart suddenly surges seven notches to #1. Apart from an obvious push by his label, what else would have caused this leap? Billboard's Airplay Update even seems to try to justify his ascent through strong research. It took 14 months for the reserach to kick in?!? How disconnected is radio from what the public is listening to when this song does not even rank in the Top 25 in sales or streaming? This may be the first time an Airplay #1 does not even rank in the Top 10 on Hot Country Songs...although if you could subtract the points "The Bones" and "I Hope" are accumulating outside the country format, Scotty may rank higher.

It's completely label induced. I usually look at the Canadian charts to get an indication of where songs would have peaked naturally. It doesn't always work, but usually gives an idea. This one got to #12, and taking out the Canadian songs, #9. Seems about right. I would like to see a new recurrent rule of removing songs after 50 weeks, regardless of their status.

I know this is probably going to drop like a rock. It's odd this is currently at #73 all-genre on iTunes. That's the highest I've ever seen it including last week's push to #1.
