I think Katy is perfectly fine with the highest rated SB, 9 #1s, 25 billion streams and the fact that she's the second person ever to score 5 #1s from one album. And the fact she's still be able to chart after all that. People like to clown artists who have been around for a decade+ not being able to chart very high, but there's so much they've achieved already.

Katy made her mark and haters can see the, etc. Can we move on now? Gary posted a Billboard article which is very much relevant to the discussion. If you don't like it pass it.

renaboss, I've seen what you're talking about, but going to Wikipedia and typing in "Billboard Year-End Hot 100 singles of 1963", it lists Surfing USA as the #1 song. So not everything lists Sugar Shack.
In the Wiki article, if you scroll down it says Billboard later ammended the list with supplementary information.

I hope Shallow takes the #1 this week, such an interesting chart run. Also would be nice to have an Oscar winning song hit #1 again. The last I think was Lose Yourself?

Let’s not oversell it... She’s a pop icon that made her mark and will be beloved like a cubs i Lahore or Paula Abdul that had a lot of hits in a 4-6 year period and it is what it is. I’m glad she is choosing to settle down and have dem babies and collect her coinage with American idol.

That Billboard article was reasonable and quite on point, people are so easily triggered. No one knows what Katy will still achieve but her current situation in the pop charts isn't very promising. Exactly. Nothing written was a lie. Similar articles have been written about Lady Gaga and look at her now.

I know this is for next week, but do the Jonas Brothers have a chance for top 10?? Streaming and sales seem to be starting off very strong (though it has only been a few hours).

If Gaga goes to #1, she'll have a break of almost 8 years between #1 singles.
I think the last person to have a longer span between #1s was Sean Paul? (Almost 13 years from "Baby Boy" -> "Cheap Thrills")
Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake both had 9 year gaps recently. I know Cher holds the record with nearly 25 years.
Edit: Christina Aguilera had a 10 year gap, although her return to #1 was as a featured artist unlike Britney/Justin/Cher.

So not everything lists Sugar Shack. In the Wiki article, if you scroll down it says Billboard later ammended the list with supplementary information. "Sugar Shack" was #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 for 5 weeks and "Surfin' USA" only made it to #3 on the same chart so maybe that has something to do with it? Wikipedia only has this to say about it: "Billboard ranked "Surfin' U.S.A." the number 1 song of 1963, Although this song was Billboard's original number 1 song of that year, later lists from Billboard rank "Sugar Shack" by Jimmy Gilmer and the Fireballs as the number 1 song of 1963." Yeah, that wasn't that helpful.

Another actor that had some Hot 100 success was Jamie Walters as part of The Heights and How Do You Talk to an Angel and then Hold On in the 1990s. That to me falls into another category #1 hits that came from shows where the actors performed them The Heights Monkees Partridge Family All shows that produced #1 songs that were performed by the actors in the show Do the Archies count? I know they were just cartoons but they also had the biggest Billboard hit single of 1969; "Sugar Sugar." And yes, they "performed" it on their Archies cartoon TV show at the time.

Seriously rooting for Shallow to hit #1 - I want Gaga to have another #1 in case she never gets there again! And Bradley Cooper to get his first #1 (and probably his last)!

LMAO! Anyhow, Perry’s time has come to an end unfortunately. She’s the 2010’s equivalent of Paula Abdul circa. 1989-1992 or Olivia Newton Jon circa. 1975-1980, except Abdul and Newton-John actually have a respectable legacy. ONJ is more like 1974-1984. She had Top 10 hits in 74, 75, 78, 79, 80, 81, 82, 84.

That's a bit more than 4 years. No reason to not acknowledge her success. Well I put 4-6 years regarding Paula and cyndi and also 2008-2014 was her range of hits and she had plenty even if she’s barely getting them now. She can always get a tour or residency after she has a couple of kids and decides to do shows again. That Billboard article was reasonable and quite on point, people are so easily triggered. No one knows what Katy will still achieve but her current situation in the pop charts isn't very promising. Exactly. Nothing written was a lie. Similar articles have been written about Lady Gaga and look at her now. And many others that had a comeback and others that did not it really depends on how the gp sees the artist because many times and artist will comeback with amazing material but the gp simply is uninterested If Gaga goes to #1, she'll have a break of almost 8 years between #1 singles. I think the last person to have a longer span between #1s was Sean Paul? (Almost 13 years from "Baby Boy" -> "Cheap Thrills") Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake both had 9 year gaps recently. I know Cher holds the record with nearly 25 years. Never to be mistaken for a gaga stan I did I buy fame monster back in the day and I’m pulling for her to snatch this #1 That said, I hope she gets a #1 hit because most comebacks have a #1 hit: Tina turner, Cher, Mariah,Britney, bieber etc. While a comeback doesn’t require a #1 hit it doesn’t hurt either.

Shallow has officially returned back to the current pop chart on Mediabase, being the first song to return from recurrent status since CeeLo Green's Forget You. A sign that its pop airplay is seeing major gains since the Oscars.

Projecting building-week data, "Shallow," released on Interscope Records, should vault from 9.6 million U.S. streams (in the week ending Feb. 21) to over 25 million and from 35,000 downloads sold to over 100,000, easily making it the top-selling song of the week. Aiding the song's projected streaming sum is the video of Gaga and Cooper's performance of it at the Oscars uploaded to her official YouTube channel.
"Shallow" will also likely increase in radio airplay after logging 26.6 million audience impressions in the tracking week ending Feb. 24.

www.billboard.com/articles/columns/chart-beat/8500641/lady-gaga-bradley-cooper-shallow-hot-100-projection?utm_source=twitterLady Gaga & Bradley Cooper's 'Shallow' Vying to Dethrone Ariana Grande's '7 Rings' From No. 1 on Billboard Hot 1003/1/2019 by Gary Trust "Shallow" could hit the top for the first time after its big night at the Oscars. Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper's "Shallow" is aiming to surge to No. 1 for the first time on next week's Billboard Hot 100 chart (dated March 9) and unseat Ariana Grande's "7 Rings," which has ruled in its first five weeks on the survey. "Shallow," from the box office hit A Star Is Born, starring Gaga and Cooper (who also directed the film), should surge in streams and sales in the tracking week ending Feb. 28 after the pair performed the ballad and it won for best original song at the 91st Academy Awards Feb. 24. The Hot 100 blends weekly streaming, airplay and sales data, according to Nielsen Music. 24. "7 Rings," on Republic Records, could sport over 40 million streams (after drawing 44.5 million a week earlier), 20,000 in sales (down from 27,000) and 80 million in radio reach (up from 71.3 million). Thus, while "7 Rings" will outperform "Shallow" in streaming and airplay, the latter's leaps in all three metrics, especially streaming and sales, could be enough for it to overtake the Hot 100's incumbent No. 1. "Shallow" is found at No. 21 on the latest, March 2-dated Hot 100, in its 21st week on the list -- and has hit a No. 5 high so far, in its second frame (Oct. 20, 2018). Gaga is seeking her fourth Hot 100 No. 1, after "Just Dance," featuring Colby O'Donis (for three weeks in January 2009), "Poker Face" (two, April 2009) and "Born This Way" (six, February-April 2011). Cooper is aiming for his first Hot 100 leader. Highlights of next week's Hot 100 are scheduled to post on Billboard.com Monday (March 4), with all charts posting the following day.

Jonas Brothers is now #2 on Apple Music! Also a 3x lead over Shallow on iTunes, and 11x lead over the #3 song on iTunes. Insane. There did feel like a decent amount of hype the past few days on social media, but nobody could've expected this first day.
The nostalgia is real. Reminds me of how Burnin' Up, S.O.S., Love Bug, and Year 3000 all did feel like hits back then. Only Burnin' Up went top 10 though.
