75. Out Of Touch (23): Pfff!! At least their best one left last, but this one should've made the top half. My favorite track from them, followed closely by Maneater, which would've also made the top half of the decade for me. Musically it's an exciting, dynamic track that mixes both their classic Rock / Soul sound and new wave, synthpop sounds becoming more popular in the mid-80s. 74. She Drives Me Crazy (91): I've always liked this song, from the music to the melody to the vocals --like a lost Bee-Gees track. But amongst this group of strong songs in this RD, it just didn't hold a candle to most of the songs in this RD. (Good to see my 5th bottom 10 song leave, too!) 73. Crazy Little Thing Called Love (77): This is one of the songs that lost most of my support in the decade RD compared with its performance in the annual RD. While I had ranked this at #6, in this RD it was below 3 songs that I had ranked higher in 1980. I like it, but it's not as unique as most of Queen's biggest hit, and a bit too simple for this RD. 72. Little Lies (62): I love this song, this album, and Fleetwood Mac. From a personal preference/memory angle, this would've been in my top half, but removing that personal factor it ended up lower in the decade RD. 71. Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic (42): This is a bit too low for such a good song. Great rock-pop music, dynamics, vocals that made it one of my favorite rock songs of the decade. Bummer. 70. Celebration (63): Fair position for one of the most classic early-80s dance tunes. Tough to rank it outside my top half, but the list was quite strong. 69. Heaven Is A Place On Earth (32): One of my absolute favorites of the second half of the decade. Given its performance in the 1988 RD, I assumed it was going to under perform in the decade RD -and Pulse didn't disappoint To me, this is really one of the songs that best represents the mix of melody, music, hook of the 80s, with some rock vibe with percussion and guitar, a kid chorus, harmonies, a key change, and good pop sound. Disappointing to see this leave in bottom half, before much lesser songs. 68. Borderline (66): This is a good Madonna song, but this is also a good place for it to leave. It's not my lowest-ranked M song in this RD, though, so I hope my last one goes before another M song. 67. Everything She Wants (31): Huh?? This is a tune with great melody, music, vocals, some of 70s funk and disco vibe but also 80s pop bliss. I especially love the change in the last minute or so. A super strong song of the decade, and sorry buy much better than his Faith stuff. 66. Live To Tell (36): Huh??!! This is such an epic M ballad, showcasing her most heartfelt vocals to date, plus using a deeper, warmer tone, and strong lyrics. Plus, the unconventional structure with an almost silent pre-bridge and a different type of bridge. Definitely NOT the next song from Madonna that needed to go. This was a not-so-good set of reveals. I need some of my bottom 3 songs to leave soon...

65. Miss You Much (74): This is a fair spot for Janet to leave. A good song, but I like Rhythm Nation more as THE Janet song of the 80s.
64. Human (65): Almost Perfect Ranking! A pretty good song with excellent music, melody, vocals, lyrics. It was very hard to rank it in my bottom 50...
63. Love Is A Battlefield (18): On the other hand, it wasn't hard at all to rank this in my top 20. WTF?!! My favorite Pat song by far, an 80s classic that I still love and hear or sing frequently. A great combo of rock and dance music with great vocals. My 3rd favorite song of 1984.
62. Shattered Dreams (87): A good, effective song, but just not that special or particularly strong for me to rank it higher in this stacked RD.
61. The Winner Takes It All (9): WHAT THE F??!!! This is a GEM of the 80s, one of the best written and sung hits of the decade, with great melody and backing vocals. Definitely disappointed at seeing this as my first top 10 loss. Abba deserved MUCH better.
60. Eye of the Tiger (19): Another top 20 loss! :( What's going on here?! Another rock song leaving far too early. Another 80s classic with great rock vocals, music, energy. Far too epic to be out in the bottom half. Come on, guys!
59. How Will I Know (48): I really like this a lot, and my personal memories would've contributed to rank it a bit higher, but this is a fair position for it.
58. Drive (84): It was hard to rank it this low, but its simplicity made me overlook it when doing this RD. Still, if we are thinking about tanking ballads, how can this be higher than Fast Car??
57. The Promise (38): This is one of those few 1980s songs that I hadn't heard back in the day and only discovered in the early 00s, but that now I absolutely LOVE. I still remember feeling transported when I saw them performing it live last year. Amazing melody, music, vocals, harmonies, and even lyrics. Love that sophisticated sound.
56. Open Your Heart (76): YES! Finally! This should've left instead of Live to tell or even Borderline. This barely made it to #6 in my personal chart in 1986 and even though I grew to like it later in the decade, it's not as strong as those other two IMO.

55. Cars (83): I had ranked this at #8 in the 1980 RD, as I considered it a great song for its year, quite ahead of its time in terms of style, music, production, etc. However, considering its own qualities in the middle of all these 1980s songs was different, as its unique, forward-looking characteristics weren't a factor anymore to me. Another song I do like and enjoy when I listen to, but was a clear bottom 1/4 in this list. 54. Bad (99): Freaking FINALLY!!!! I love the video but the song is almost like a parody for MJ. The music is childish except for maybe the guitar in the bridge, and the melody is almost obnoxious. Far from his best dance tunes. Far too high position for this one. 53. Hit Me With Your Best Shot (89): YAY! Another bottom quarter loss! It's the least interesting Pat Benatar song in this RD. It may be the most popular at the bars but it doesn't hold a candle to the strong musical and vocal prowess of Hb or the dynamic genre-bending music and vocals of LiaB. Another clear bottom quarter for me. 52. Funkytown (46): Fair ranking for this one. One of my favorite dance songs of the 80s, quite unique and different for the decade and any decade (much more than Cars for example), with lots of interesting twists and turns. 51. Bette Davis' Eyes (5): WHAT THE FUNK???!!!!!!! My first top 5 loss :'( A gem of the 80s, new wave, synthpop with attitude in music and vocals (I know she's an acquired taste but she really sang this). Disappointed at this leaving outside the top half... It deserved much better!

Ignoring ILRNR, I'm pretty happy with this set, especially Shout. Everybody Wants To Rule The World it is not.

Well, I had to lose a top 10 eventually. Sad that Higher Love couldn't get any higher but I'm pretty satisfied with its placement.
The rest are in my bottom half so I'm good I guess.

A solid enough set, I guess. Could have been worse.

Oof at Shout and I Love Rock n Roll. Two classics that deserved better.
Yay at Higher Love finally going. Please take my #96 and #90 next...
OK at Raspberry Beret and Faith leaving. Both artists have better songs still left.

This is still an 8/10, so I wouldn’t have minded certain other songs leaving instead, but this is a good reveal.

That's it for today.
Top 40 begins tomorrow...for those keeping track, we have yet to lose a song from 1983.

Second top ten loss with Man In The Mirror :( The rest of the reveals also deserved to be a tad bit higher.
