"The Only Promise That Remains" is such a beautiful song! It is very subdued and intimate, but Reba's voice is crisp and Justin's "duet" lines that are really just background vocals really compliment her voice nicely and accentuate all of her strengths as a vocalist. I was very pleased to see this hanging on as a consistent top 5 contender for awhile.
Now, was it a horrible single choice? HELL YES! Who the f**k thought this would be a good song to release to Country radio?! While "Sleeping With The Telephone" and "When You Love Someone Like That" were left to sit on this album and rot?!!!?! Am I bitter? Yes, very much so.

I love the melody to "The Only Promise That Remains", it is so haunting and JT's background vocals really elevate the song, and Reba just sounds fantastic on this. However it definitely was not a good single choice and I wish that "Sleeping With The Telephone" or "When You Love Someone Like That" had been a single over it.
Also "Break Each Others Hearts Again" is great as well, cannot believe it trended in last place as it has no business being there, I am glad it escaped being there!
This album is amazing and even my two lowest remaining deserve to win and even though I'd rather they don't, one of them will lol.

Up next, another extremely polarizing song! This one has both a #1 and a #11, in addition to a whopping EIGHT top 5s. It was almost a last-place contender early in the rankdown, but ended up climbing slowly all the way up to the middle of the pack...

The singles from this album were so tricky to manage, as there were a lot of label politics that prevented certain songs from being released. I think we would have seen very different singles get released from this album if that wasn’t the case.

I have always been irked by this song... WHY would you name it "Does THE Wind Still Blow In Oklahoma" and then proceed to sing "Does THAT Wind Still Blow In Oklahoma" every single time??!!?!?!!?! I HATE it when songs have lyrics that don't match up with the song title. Like, that is quite possibly my biggest musical pet peeve....
Throw in the fact that this song is very flat-sounding and boring despite being one of the few uptempo songs on the album... Lol it's a good enough song I guess, but I was much happier seeing it flounder around in the bottom half of the album than I was seeing it almost become a top 5 contender...

I did not expect "Does The Wind Still Blow In Oklahoma?" to miss the Top 5 so I am genuinely surprised. I do love this song but I also love most of the other songs as well. I definitely think the right songs made the Top 5 though!
Kinda hoping "Because Of You" is not #1 though...

I'm glad The Only Promise that Remains is finally out. Together with Everyday People this is without a doubt worst song on an album - it's just boring and this repeating lyrics are so annoying. I like Break Each Other's Hearts Again a lot. I have it on repeat quite some time after I first heard it. I wouldn't mind if Don Henley was repleaced by some other male single with a little less rough voice. I know lyrics and melody are nothing special but I like them anyway. Just a good old female - male duet song.

I can't say I'm realy happy with the top 5 but I'm also not really disappointed. I didn't expect Every Other Weekend to come so far but I guess it has an advantage because it's a well known song. I hope one of the non-single songs win.
Edit Good, it was about time for this song to be eliminated.

Glad "Every Other Weekend" is out even though I really like it. I'm still kinda mad they chose it as a single over everything else they had. :(

"She Can't Save Him" is SO good, but I don't think it will really surprise anybody to see it out next, considering what is left. The lyrics are so moving and powerful, especially the slight key change right before Reba sings about drowning. Not to mention Reba and Trisha always sound incredible together! This song lacks some of the epic "wow" factor of LeAnn, Faith, and Kelly's duets, so between the four, I am glad to see this go first I guess. But thrilled it made it this far!!!!! And thrilled to see it be the first song that was in the top 5 for the entire rankdown! That is a distinction that this song shares with the entire top 3 as well, so it is in incredible company! Also, I was low-key at how you kept predicting this song was going to be some kind of universally-hated last-place contender Cody Wants Out...

Trisha and Reba are two of my all time favourite singers and I'm happy that they recorded this duet, but the song itself is nothig special, even kind of boring. The 3rd verse (Sometimes she dreams that he's caught in a stream...) it's my favourite part of this song.

Dang so much for an all album track top 3 :(
This song is stunning and I'd love for someone to release it as a single one day and get a hit with it, I truly think it could be one with the right singer on it.
Lisa Brokop recorded it back in the 90's and released it as a single, her version is still really great though I like having Reba and Trisha together on it. It's actually like Lisa's 2nd biggest hit in the U.S. when it peaked at #55 lol

"Every Other Weekend" isn't half bad considering Kenny Crapney did his best to ruin it. Still, one of the lower points of the album. Pleasantly surprised y'all didn't let it get any farther than this because of the 'single bias'!
ETA: Oh good, the top 3 is the correct top 3! <3

Because of you,I never stray too far from the sidewalk. Because of you, I learned to play on the safe side so I don't get hurt. Because of you, I find it hard to trust not only me, but everyone around me. Because of you, I am afraid.

WOW! I am SUPER happy right now! "Because Of You" is great but I love Kelly's original way more than this one and the other two songs remaining are the highlights of this album (and my Top 2!).
Now for "Sleeping With The Telephone" to be #1! (though I wouldn't be upset if it goes the other way)

Wow, I'm stunned. Totally expected this song to run away with it. That said, I love the other 2 songs almost as much and I'll be happy with any of them winning. The top 3 here are all perfect songs. Rooting for "Telephone," but I'll be fine either way.

SURPRISE!!!!!!!!!!!!! Bowing out at #3, we say goodbye to the song that this album is most known for, and in fact the song that may have started it all! Reba's singing of this song with Kelly Clarkson on CMT Crossroads went about as viral as something could go back in the mid-2000s, and it was an absolute no-brainer to record a studio version to put on her next album. Reba and Kelly sound ICONIC together, regardless of what they are singing Such a magical pairing! This song, with a whopping FIVE #1 losses, put up a hell of a fight, but the two album tracks proved to be just too strong. "When You Love Someone Like That" and "Sleeping With The Telephone" curb-stomped this song to #3, single-bias and all, to make this a super exciting top 2!!!!

Nice :). I didn't expect this to happen at all. I do like Because of You and video for this song is great but I'm happy to see it leaving now. I hope Sleeping with the Telephone wins.
