Sean's Thoughts: 05. “He Gets That From Me”: What more can be said that hasn’t been said before. The lyrics and production are great. It’s a standout of the album for sure. However, I’m not entirely sure I would have picked this as a single. My top 4 would have been my choice for the 4 singles. Also I wanted to look up what I said during my first countdown series back in….2012….yuck, I’m old….and I didn’t say anything exciting haha 01. “Somebody”: I am beyond proud to put this song as my #1 song on this album. As I mentioned earlier in my countdown, I looked back at my Reba countdown from forever ago (I ranked my top 50 favorite Reba singles at the time) and this song came in at #10. I wouldn’t change that for anything. This song…THIS SONG…is the song that hooked me onto Reba Nell McEntire (well really it was “Love Will Find Its Way To You” which I heard on Reba’s 2nd Greatest Hits album, but that can be a story for another time. Well I’ll tell part of it…After listening to her 2nd Greatest Hits album I instantly found out she just released a brand new album…Room To Breathe…I had my dad get it for me and I fell in love. I started finding anything and everything related to Reba that I could). Anyways, I went off subject! This song was my favorite from the album then, and it still is now. I don’t care what anyone says, this is one of Reba’s best moments in her almost 45 year career! I will cherish this song forever.

Well, that was an obvious #1. I enjoyed this album as a whole so I wasn't really upset where anything ended up.

"Somebody" is gorgeous and flawless, albeit massively overplayed. "He Gets That From Me" doesn't do ANYTHING for me. I'm glad it didn't win. Thanks for hosting bboat11 !!

And there you have it! In classic album rankdown fashion, the winner came down to the two biggest (or best remembered) hits from the album battling it out in the top 2, with the overall biggest coming out on top with no contest whatsoever! As you can see from the trajectory graph, other than my #4 rank at the very beginning, "Somebody" was in the winning position for the entire submission process... And I have no problem with that whatsoever! This is one of those hits that helped define her career heading into the modern era of the '00s, and it is also the song that cemented Reba's comeback and perhaps allowed her to keep her career going as long as she has. It has worn on me a little bit with age as I have played it to death, but it is still fantastic, and by far the song most people would associate this album with immediately.
"He Gets That From Me" is also fantastic, but it is one that I have just never loved unconditionally. In fact, this is one of those songs that I kinda have a tendency to forget even exists, until I am listening to the album and it comes on... Still, the lyrics are masterful, and by far the most powerful aspect of the song. The way the hook is integrated into a plotline that gets gradually revealed over the course of the entire song is nothing short of masterful, leading up to the heartbreaking finish that a lot of people don't see coming the first time they hear the song. For me personally, the impact of this song may have been cheapened somewhat by the fact that it was a single, because I have heard it so many times I tend to take the beautiful writing for granted.

Alright, now that you all have seen the results for the album as a whole, I am curious what you would have chosen as the singles!!!! For me personally, I would have done the following: 1. "Secret" 2. "Somebody" 3. "I'm Gonna Take That Mountain" 4. "It Just Has To Be This Way" And of course, here are Sean 's Thoughts! 01. "It Just Has To Be This Way"02. "Somebody"03. "Moving Oleta"04. "Room to Breathe"(But Sean, those are all ballads!!! Fantastic songs, of course, but would radio have touched four ballads in a row, from a 40+-year-old female?!)

Thank you to everybody who participated in this one, and made this first venture into Reba's albums so much fun! Submissions for the Duets album are now open (As I said previously, I already have FOUR lists for it... Lol) I will post the full announcement tomorrow, after people have had a chance to share their final thoughts on Room To Breathe if they have any

My picks would've been:
1. "Somebody" 2. "It Just Has to Be This Way" 3. "He Gets That from Me" 4. "Room to Breathe"
"Secret" feels like an album-only song, but I wouldn't have been mad if it had been a single.

My top 4 were the top 4 so I'm happy! Although switching 3 & 4 plus switching 1 & 2 would have given me 4 perfect rankings and the perfect results!
"He Gets That From Me" is one of my all-time favorite Reba songs. She's such a fantastic storyteller and the way she really makes you feel how much that little boy misses his dad is just heartbreaking. The clever twist at the end using the title of the song to then show how much the narrator ALSO hurts for the loss of her husband KILLS ME every time. It's no surprise I'm obsessed with a song about somebody who died/is dying (ugh, they're my favorite), but this is one of my favorites. Reba delivers this story so beautifully and the writing is so unbelievably good. A+++

Ugh that Vince Gill duet being the last album track? Happy with the final 2 though!

Not a surprising winner but well dederved!
Single wise I think I would've just changed out "I'm Gonna Take That Mountain" for "It Just Has To Be This Way" and left as is. Then again I'm one of the few who loved "My Sister" lol
I probably would've tossed "Moving Oleta" as a 5th possibly.

Reba: Duets (2007) Coming off the heels of her widely successful 21st-century comeback album which we just successfully honored, Room To Breathe, Reba McEntire threw a curve ball at us. An entire album of duets!!! She has always been known to have some incredible duets, and fans had been hoping for an album like this for decades, so this album immediately had a ton of hype and anticipation. Before making this album, Reba was in the spotlight for her CMT Crossroads performance with Kelly Clarkson, and when they sang "Because Of You" together it immediately became an obvious "thing" that had to happen. The song got recorded for this album, ultimately became the lead single, and became one of her biggest hits of the 21st century in the process. Upon debut, this album reached #1 one the Billboard 200, making it the best-selling album in the entire country, selling 300,536 copies in its first week! (Holy cow!) Unfortunately, label squabbles and politics seemed to ensnare this project, preventing it from reaching its full potential. Other than "Because Of You", all the tracks that should have been singles never actually got released, imo... This album has some major fan favorites that consistency get mentioned in lists of Reba's best album tracks, so I am really excited to see how good of a chance they end up having here!! Tracklist: (Runtime 44:19)
1. When You Love Someone Like That - ft. LeAnn Rimes 2. Does The Wind Still Blow In Oklahoma? - ft. Ronnie Dunn 3. Because Of You - ft. Kelly Clarkson 4. Faith In Love - ft. Rascal Flatts 5. She Can't Save Him - ft. Trisha Yearwood 6. Everyday People - ft. Carole King 7. Every Other Weekend - ft. Kenny Chesney 8. These Broken Hearts - ft. Vince Gill 9. Sleeping With The Telephone - ft. Faith Hill 10. The Only Promise That Remains - ft. Justin Timberlake 11. Break Each Other's Hearts Again - ft. Don Henley
Submissions for this album are now open! This album will tentatively close on Sunday, April 7 (about three weeks away)! All who would like to participate are welcome to join, whether you are tagged or not! Send me a PM by the deadline, with the songs ranked from #1 (your favorite) down to #11 (your least favorite).

I remember at the time Reba saying that she wanted to release eight singles from this album. Of course, that was just after Come On Over and Fly, when those things seemed possible.
My pick for four would have been:
1. It Just Has To Be This Way 2. Somebody 3. My Sister 4. He Gets That From Me
“Love Revival” was initially supposed to be the lead single, and “Moving Oleta” was slated to be a single at one point as well.

“Love Revival” was initially supposed to be the lead single, and “Moving Oleta” was slated to be a single at one point as well. I really wish a video had been made for "Moving Oleta" because I feel like that could have been something incredible. So happy "Love Revival" was never released, sorry but probably the worst thing I've ever heard from her.

I can't even with those that ranked "Moving Oleta" low, can you really call yourself a country music fan and have this song low...sorry probably being a little ridiculous but I just love this song. How I wish it had been a single simply so I could have heard it sooner than now. Such an incredible song and should have been in the Top 5!!! Also, I love "Once You've Learned To Be Lonely" because it is such a true statement. Love everything about that song and that contended with "Moving Oleta" for my #1 along with my #2, at least that one is still in, hopefully you all don't do that one dirty also and it be out at #5 (though looking at the remaining songs I suppose it could be). Truth be told after listening to this album I would not have chosen any of the songs that were released to be singles. Don't get me wrong I can enjoy them all but I also find them all to be fairly forgettable when it comes to her entire career (sorry I prefer Mark Wills version of "Somebody" and just could never love her version). I love everything about this post, except the closing part... I don't know who Mark Wills is, probably some sort of hot tub salesman or lumberjack by now, but if Reba sang a song that he happened to sing once, then it is no longer his song! lmao, unfortunately he hasn't released any music for a long time but he did just join the Opry in January so he hasn't completely faded into obscurity (completely lmao).
Anyways, I heard his version a few years prior to Reba releasing it so I have always heard it as his song and felt it should have been a single over "Loving Every Minute" or "I'm Not Gonna Do Anything Without You" as it was easily a better song (not to say I disliked either of those though). Reba's is good, just loved his first.

Awe so Mark doesn't do little tour shows and stuff besides the one occasion? I'd love something new from him. My Sister should've never been a single, even if they did go 8 singles deep.

I've listened to this album so many times from even before you finished the last album and I am still struggling to get this album ranked. I really love almost everything on this album. Only my bottom 2 is easy lol
ETA: threw together a list and submitted. I'll probably hate myself later but I really like my Top 9! I do like the two I put at the bottom but they are definitely at the bottom.

Wow, my luck ran out. I didn't have to turn this in like I turn in essays. Sorry if you already hurried to try to get it done by today. I normally prefer not to extend album rankdowns more than a day or two, so the deadlines typically are "deadlines", but that's just what had to happen this time :( I'm excited to see your list though!
