Still that you were so dedicated to renaming the title of this song. meh it was an oversight that I never bothered to correct. Oh well, will just go with it lol

Well this rankdown isn't quite as planned for myself as "Put Yourself In My Place" has always been a jam and I love the change of tempo as she whips into the chorus. I guess I'd consider this one of her underrated singles now that it bows out before the top 5 in the album rankdown.

I found Melancholy Child really unique and I wish I could've ranked it higher, this was such a strong album though!

The instrumentation of "Melancholy Child" reminds me of a show I used to watch (that has since went off the air!):

The only elimination I'm sad about so far is "Blue Rose Is," although I didn't expect "Draggin' My Chains" in last place.

"Melancholy Child" was probably the biggest wildcard for me in this rankdown. I had no idea what to expect from it! On the one hand, it is an extremely unique song. It almost sounds like it has Celtic influences or something. But on the other hand, those same influences make it sound almost cheesy with the clunky verse melodies. However, the chorus makes up for it imo! In the end, I guess finishing right in the middle of this album feels just about right. I definitely love it though. Also, this top 5 is literally perfect! My entire top 5 remains Now could I possibly pull off 5 perfect rankings to finish this thing off??? I'm stoked to find out! My predictions for how this will play out: 5. "I've Seen Enough To Know" 4. "Ancient History" 3. "One Of Those Things" 2. "Don't Tell Me What To Do" 1. "Maybe It Was Memphis"

Kinda surprised "Ancient History" is still in, I thought for sure it'd be out by now.

bowing out at #5 is "Ancient History". I do like this song but am surprised it made it to the Top 5 ("Melancholy Child" should have made it over it imo).
Tomorrow night I plan to end this rankdown! Make sure to be here to see the epic finale!!!

One of my favorite aspects of Pam is how raspy her voice can get when she's singing high. Not sure if it's bad vocal technique or if it's just the way her voice sounds, but either way, when she launches into sudden high notes it always sounds so powerful and gives me a twinge of joy. The reason I bring this up now is of course because of that final half of a chorus in "I've Seen Enough To Know", that happens after the guitar solo, where she's suddenly singing really high The same could also be said for the end of "One Of Those Things", where she is like, "But it's OOOOOUUUUUUUT of my hands"... Lmao. That right there is enough for me to hope that that song hangs in to finish at #2! Because let's be real, we all know "Memphis" is winning this thing.

I will be finishing this tonight so I hope a few people are able to comment between now and when I present the final two.
For anyone who has paid attention you will have noticed that NO ONE has lost their #1 yet and we are at the Final 2! Both songs in the final 2 have #1 rankings.
As for "One Of Those Things" I love this song and am very happy that it made it to the Top 3 because it deserved it. This is easily a favorite of mine from her (for which there are many favorites lol).
"Don't Tell Me What To Do" vs "Maybe It Was Memphis". Everyone feels this has only one conclusion but are they right? Find out soon!

The top 3 is exactly what I was thinking it would be and I still can't envision "Maybe It Was Memphis" not sweeping the rankdown. I'm also glad that bboat11 pointed out Pam's voice as it's the "raspiness" that really makes her vocal style unique. There's very few female artists with that kind of style and the only one's I can think off the top of my head would be Loretta Lynn, Tanya Tucker, K.T. Oslin, and maybe even Deana Carter. I guess even someone like Mila Mason comes to mind now that I think about...anyways all of the female artists with that delivery standout in a great way and I love how it comes across in their music. Bring it on home for us castleoblivion26!

I can't see a scenario where "Maybe It Was Memphis" doesn't walk away the winner of this, because it's her signature hit and an absolute classic, but the entire album is great so I really enjoyed listening to it for this rankdown.

I knew it would be a blowout, but damn. bboat11 does this break any kind of record for best rankdown winner?

It's the best song in her career, imo. Although it doesn't compare, Danielle Bradbery's cover of this song is why I became a fan of her, too.

I knew it would be a blowout, but damn. bboat11 does this break any kind of record for best rankdown winner? You know, I was really thinking it would, but it wasn't nearly as high as I thought it would be! The problem here is that this is an album rankdown, which means it doesn't have nearly as many songs as most other rankdowns. So when it gets compared to other rankdowns, it is way less mathematically impressive for a song to get a bunch of #1s competing against 10 songs versus a song that gets a lot of #1s competing against 70 songs. So as it turns out, there are still a handful of artist rankdowns ahead of this one in terms of highest-scoring winners. Here is the list of highest-scoring winners:
1) "Independence Day" - Martina McBride rankdown (Avg. score 8.23) 2) "Bubba Shot The Jukebox" - Mark Chesnutt rankdown (Avg. 10.86) 3) "If I Die Young" - The Band Perry rankdown (Avg. 11.39) 4) "I'll Think Of A Reason Later" - Lee Ann Womack (Avg. 11.62) 5) "Maybe It Was Memphis" - Pam Tillis Put Yourself In My Place album rankdown (Avg. 11.82)In terms of biggest blowout victories, this also scores highly, but is not even quite in the top 5. "Don't Tell Me What To Do" still did well enough to where "Memphis'" domination only got this a score as the 7th-biggest blowout. Here is the list of biggest blowouts:
1) "Peter Pan" vs. "XO" - Kelsea Ballerini rankdown (Difference: 25.95) 2) "The Chair" vs. "Haven't You Heard" - George Strait Something Special album rankdown (Diff. 25.00) 3) "The Blade" vs. "If Love Was Fair" - Ashley Monroe The Blade album rankdown (Diff. 19.46) 4) "Peace Sign" vs. "Love On A Maybe" - Jo Dee Messina Me album rankdown (Diff. 18.06) 5) "Independence Day" vs. "My Baby Loves Me" - Martina McBride The Way That I Am album rankdown (Diff. 18.00) 6) "I Got A Car" vs. "Give It All We Got Tonight"/"That's What Breaking Hearts Do" - George Strait Love Is Everything album rankdown (Diff. 17.44) 7) "Maybe It Was Memphis" vs. "Don't Tell Me What To Do" - Pam Tillis Put Yourself In My Place album rankdown (Diff. 17.27)
This rankdown did set one new record though! With 9/11 participants putting the winner at #1, that means 81.82% of participants placed the winner at #1! That is now the highest percentage of people to ever put the winner at #1 Here are the top 5 rankdowns with the highest percentage of people who put the #1 at #1: 1) Pam Tillis Put Yourself In My Place album rankdown (81.82% of participants)
2) Martina McBride The Way That I Am rankdown (80.00%) 3) Jo Dee Messina self-titled album rankdown (66.67%) 4) George Strait Something Special album rankdown (66.67%) 5) Martina McBride Shine album rankdown (63.16%)

I've been excited to show how crazy the final results were. I did not expect everyone to put "Maybe It Was Memphis" at #1 (minus two of course). I figured #1 would be between that and "Don't Tell Me What To Do" but it was never even close. I've always preferred "Don't Tell Me What To Do" but I love both. This album was a lot of fun to listen to again and rank and I thank you all for taking part! Hope to see you all participate in the next album 'Homeward Looking Angel' which I will have posted tonight or tomorrow!

Wow, so I think we all knew Maybe It Was Memphis would win, but I can’t believe it was the blowout win that it was! Memphis is one of my favorite country songs of the 1990’s, so it was a definite #1 for me. I had never heard most of these songs before this rankdown. It’s a pretty solid album, I’ve Seen Enough to Know is fantastic and I’m glad I’ve finally discovered that one. I look forward to discovering more of Pam’s stuff that I’ve been missing out on all these years!

Just listened to Homeward Looking Angel. Can confirm that the next rankdown will be even better than this one. What a stellar album!

Just listened to Homeward Looking Angel. Can confirm that the next rankdown will be even better than this one. What a stellar album! Yes despite ' Put Yourself In My Place' having "Maybe It Was Memphis" which is imo the best single of the 90's, ' Homeward Looking Angel' is an even better album! As for this rankdown there was never a doubt in my head over the winner and it's one of the most deserving winners ever, such a stunning song.
