Dean Lewis top Billboard's Adult Pop Songs radio airplay chart, as "Be Alright" ascends 3-1 on the survey dated March 23. The song marks the first leader on a U.S. songs chart for Lewis, who hit No. 1 on the Emerging Artists tally two weeks earlier.
As the ballad, released on Island/Republic Records, is Lewis' first Adult Pop Songs entry, he's the first soloist to lead the list in an initial visit in a year, since MAX, whose "Lights Down Low," featuring gnash, began a three-week reign on the March 31, 2018-dated chart.
The Adult Pop Songs chart, which began in Billboard's pages in March 1996, measures total weekly plays, as tabulated by Nielsen Music, among its reporting panel of 87 adult top 40 stations.
"Be Alright" concurrently climbs 13-11 on the Adult Contemporary airplay chart and 16-15 on Pop Songs. The breakout hit from the Australian singer-songwriter first scaled global rankings, reaching No. 1 in his native country and the top five of multiple European charts.
"My dad always had music playing. He had guitars around. We loved The Beatles," Lewis recently told Billboard's Pop Shop Podcast. "I'd be George [Harrison] and [my brother would] be John [Lennon]. So, we always had music growing up. He got us lessons at, like, 11 [years old]. But it wasn't until I was 18 when I was like, 'I want a guitar. I want to do this for me.' "
