I'll say this: "Charlie Brown's Parents" is a lot better than "Counting Blue Cars"

EXTRAS:
Free as a Bird - The Beatles Beatles on Active. F U C K yeah! Killer Petty vibe. I wish we ranked this one.
Like a Rolling Stone - The Rolling Stones Seems like their theme song. Never a fan of Dylon's vocals, but Mick does this classic justice.
Ballbreaker - AC/DC This band was never considered "sleeze" but they should have been, because they were sleezing up rock way before Mötley Crüe. Anyway, this is hot. Top 15 on my list. At least.
Charlie Brown's Parents - Dishwalla Poor man's version of Collective Soul song part 10.
I Want to Come Over - Melissa Etheridge I preferred Sheryl, but sometimes Melissa showed her rock vibes too.
Aberdeen - Kenny Wayne Shepherd The guitar works remind me of the style of the intro of Warrant's "Uncle Tom's Cabin". This song is cool.
Angeline Is Coming Home - The Badlees This is alright. I just think Counting Crows did it better.
Uninvited - Ruth Ruth First time listen. Nice relaxing reliable Punk vibes. 'nuff said.

HERE ARE THE TOP TEN FINALISTS FOR ACTIVE 1996
Alice In Chains - Heaven Beside You Foo Fighters - I'll Stick Around The Goo Goo Dolls - Long Way Down The Goo Goo Dolls - Name Oasis - Champagne Supernova The Smashing Pumpkins - 1979 The Smashing Pumpkins - Tonight, Tonight Soundgarden - Burden in My Hand Spacehog - In the Meantime Stone Temple Pilots - Trippin' on a Hole in a Paper Heart
* two of these fierce contenders make my top 10. It shouldn't take a rocket scientist to figure out which two? None of these are bad songs. My lowest comes in just below #60.
What songs are you surprised made it? Kinda surprised "Tonight Tonight" made it this far. Its seems a bit too mellow to put high on an ACTIVE ROCK list. Not a bad song tho.
What songs are you disappointed missed out? The rest of my who's who in 80;'s Metal top 10
Wanna make some predictions? since non of these are bad, i'll take a stabb at foretelling the future.
1. Foo Fighters - I'll Stick Around
2. Smashing Pumpkins - 1979
3. The Goo Goo Dolls - Name
4. Stone Temple Pilots - Trippin' on a Hole in a Paper Heart
5. Soundgarden - Burden in My Hand
6. The Goo Goo Dolls - Long Way Down
7. Alice In Chains - Heaven Beside You
8. Oasis - Champagne Supernova
9. Spacehog - In the Meantime
10. The Smashing Pumpkins - Tonight, Tonight

If I'm typing in Georgia, size three font, and I'm not hosting the rankdown, it can only mean one thing...something, something T-T-T-T-TOP TEN PREVIEW! As always, if I've made any mistakes or if I've left anything out, I'm sure you will all let me know.
- Well, this is interesting: None of our top ten entrants are first timers. The closest to being "rookies" in this top ten are Spacehog and Stone Temple Pilots, both making their second top ten appearances. Here's a fun fact for you: Both of these bands' first top ten appearances were in Active...and both were at #10. At least one of those two bands is guaranteed to earn a new best performance. - Oasis didn't quite do the double this time, but they are still making their third top ten appearance, as well as their third in 1996 alone. "Champagne Supernova" did very well in Alt...will that level of performance continue in Active? - Soundgarden are appearing in the top ten for the fourth time, never having reached the top five previously. Given that "Burden in My Hand" was their best performance in Alt, it's reasonable to assume that it could be their first top five performer in Active...but will it get there? - It's time to goo times two, as the Goo Goo Dolls are appearing in the top ten for the fourth and fifth time. Neither song has appeared in Alt (well, "yet", in the case of "Name"), so it's unclear how well they will do in this top ten. "Name" appears to be a contender to win, though... - Making their ninth top ten appearance are Alice in Chains, with almost all of their top ten appearances being in Active. Despite this fact, they have never won a rankdown. They have come close before, but they've never quite reached the mountaintop. Will that change tonight? - Also making their eighth and ninth top ten appearances tonight are the band that had three top ten appearances in Alt and controlled the top two there: The Smashing Pumpkins. Both "1979" and "Tonight, Tonight" are favorites to get back to the top two (and especially "1979"). More importantly, can the Pumpkins break the Alt #1 curse? We haven't seen an Alt #1 do the #1 double since "Schism", and it has only happened once in the last rankdown decade (and we can extend that period to a few years after). Can "1979" change that? - And finally, of course, the big kahunas are back. The Foos are making their record thirty-first top ten appearance, and it's with a song we have yet to see in Alt (we're ranking this particular song right now in 1995). "I'll Stick Around" has been pegged as a favorite to do damage by many, but how far will it get here?

Takes a Skippy sandwich from Red's lunchbox and eats it. Hmm, delicious.
That was for my number one!
Well, this could have gone worse edition:
25. All I Know (68)---Right off the bat, we take out my second lowest song. Nothing against Screaming Trees, but they kinda struggled with the packed competition.
24. Zero (32)---At least the Smashing Pumpkins songs are going in the right order. It's not this was bad; it's that the others were a lot better.
23. Follow You Down (10)---Oof, and there goes a top 10. It's not just nostalgia, either. This song still held up darned well.
22. Brain Stew/Jaded (2)---How could this not get top 10? Better question: how did this miss top 20, AGAIN? I guess they rocked too fiercely for y'all?
21. Machinehead (41)---Sure, there was the Breathe In/Breathe Out part. But this rocked way harder than Rollin' (all versions). Could have done a bit better, but I'm fine with this placement.
20. Shame (43)---Unlike their other song, this rocked out properly and deserves a top 20 placement.
19. Pepper (24)---Didn't quite seem like active rock, but the lyrics do grab you and a nice bit of rock attitude as well.
18. Again (91)---Press F to pay respects for my last bottom 10 song. It reminded me of an old car that broke down on me as I was headed to my parent's place; first gear was fine but there was no overdrive.
And that took out my bottom 30 as well.
17. I Was Wrong (30)---Solid enough rock song that I'm fine for it landing here.
16. Bullet with Butterfly Wings (1)---Oh good gravy! This missed out on a top 10, in ACTIVE. I think I'm filling up with rage in this cage right now.
15. Pretty Noose (35)---Not bad, but I've heard better from Soundgarden.
14. Over Now (52)---And my third lowest remaining goes down. I have 2 Alice in Chains songs left that are both higher than this.
13. Naked (22)---And in all honesty, this was a good listen. Although I guess I can reveal that my favorite first listen was by the same band. Hmm.
12. Grind (13)---Make that 1 Alice in Chains song. I'm fine with where this landed, to be honest. Although I'd have preferred the other song to show up here.
11. Test for Echo (65)---I do like Rush, but I've heard better. Also, there went my lowest remaining song as the top 45 falls.
What's Left:
4, 7, 8, 9, 11, 15, 17, 25, 39, 53 (18.8)
Extras:
Free as a Bird---To be honest, this might have ended up in my top 20...or even top 10.
