Have a feeling, 'bad guy' is going to debut with very high numbers maybe higher than Sucker, 3.5-3.7 million on Spotify? Already #3 on AM, coming for #1 in the next update. This may be her first #1. Sales aren't bad too, #19 on iTunes and a new video. Right song. Wrong Country

“Old Town Road” enters Billboard Country Airplay at #53. I would assume making it the first Billboard Hot 100 #1 to chart on the country airplay chart in a long time. So, it's getting country airplay and Billboard still won't put it on Country Songs?!?! Lol.

Still don't understand why Billboard is pinching Hot 100 hard yet has no recurrent rule on Billboard 200 or any of the component charts (except for radio which's linked to Hot 100's recurrent rule) in streaming era? That Billboard 200's pretty hard to watch. Believer was sabotaged so hard by the recurrent rule. It could literally chart for 120-150 weeks in Hot 100.

Close Friends is still charting at #64 (-7). It's at 23 weeks and no bullet It's still gaining at radio, so they probably decided to keep it on.

It has next to no country airplay outside of that. If we don't like Billboard deciding genres of a song, we certainly shouldn't want one radio DJ having that power either.

But if the show is so widely syndicated that one spin could make it the 53rd biggest song of the week that still indicates popularity. What's the threshold then? A certain number of plays? A certain number of individual DJs playing it? Non-syndicated airplay on multiple stations? I'm honestly not trying to be sarcastic, I'm genuinely asking. This is why Billboard's hybrid genre charts are a disaster.

And imagine if one DJ decided to spin a country darling not getting any airplay (an Ashley McBryde or even Kacey Musgraves); would people still say "One DJ shouldn't have any influence," or would they champion the DJ for breaking from the white male mold of country radio?

Regarding OTR's Country airplay last week:
“Old Town Road” actually debuts on the Country Airplay chart.
by Brian Cantor about 10 hours ago
Amid the controversy over its removal from the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart, many are surely wondering whether Lil Nas X’s “Old Town Road” is receiving airplay at country radio.
The simple answer is “yes.” The hit has registered spins with dozens of country stations, and it starts at #53 on this week’s Billboard Country Airplay chart.
There is, however, some nuance to the situation.
As of press time, the clear majority of spins are attributable to programs like “The Bobby Bones Show,” which are syndicated across numerous country stations. Whenever a syndicated program plays a song, the song gets credit for airplay on every station on which the show airs.
Headline Planet’s Twitter occasionally documents this “syndication effect,” noting when songs like Camila Cabello’s “Havana” and Post Malone’s “Psycho” have received country airplay. They were not actually in formal rotation at a country station, but they received airplay credit thanks to their inclusion on a syndicated program.
With “Old Town Road,” the syndication effect is clear. Per Mediabase data, numerous stations gave “Old Town Road” exactly four spins at exactly the same times during the most recent tracking window.
But while syndicated programs are the driving force behind the song’s Country Airplay debut, they are not the only factor. Some stations are providing independent airplay for the song.
One such station is 96.3 Star Country in Madison, Wisconsin. According to Mediabase, the station played “Old Town Road” fifteen times in the seven days ending April 7. The airplay seems to center on the new Billy Ray Cyrus remix.
Prior to the release of that remix, at least one other station played the song to hype an “Old Town Road Challenge” for its listeners.
Any country airplay, whether due to syndicated shows or independent station interest, is icing on the cake for the song at this point. “Old Town Road” continues to soar at its focus pop and rhythmic radio formats, while posting mammoth sales and streaming numbers.

One thing I noticed in the Radio Songs is 7 Rings rose 2-1 with a bullet, which contradicts the Hot 100 top 10 article which mentioned it lost 3 percent weekly audience.
Another thing, is that Close Friends was allowed to chart this week in spite of not having a bullet and being below the top 50.

I don't know if this rule is still active, but years ago Billboard had rule that songs and albums reaching number one for the first time would automatically be given a bullet for that week. They could have done away with that a long time ago though and the "7 Rings" scenario could be a mistake. But if not that would explain it.

Sure if you want to say spinning a country musician on a country music radio show is the same as spinning a hip-hop song on a country music radio show is the exact same situation, then you can make a post like this. I for one don't think that's a comparable situation and is based purely on bias for thinking OTR is a country song just because it has a damn banjo.

There are many who thing "OTR" has country elements, which means...something. I mean, "country" songs as of late have hip-hop elements as it is. 2. "Some stations are providing independent airplay for the song." From that article above, so it's not just the syndicated show.

I just don't understand why they let Meant To Be chart and not Old Town Road. It doesn't make any sense. Billboard is so inconsistent, it's embarrassing.

A few city boys and hip-hop fans calling a song country does not a country song make. I don't know why y'all can't comprehend that basic concept. Remember when a bunch of pop fans called "Perfect Illusion" a rock song? Yeah, I don't trust a small group of people to classify song genres correctly. There are way more country music insiders and superfans that don't believe OTR is country and that should count for... something more. 2. "Meant to Be" was a #1 country airplay hit. It's still a pop song that I don't believe should ever have been on the country chart. So that point isn't going to change my mind.

I’m pretty sure they’re waiting for OTR to go top 50. If you look into when MTB’s entry on Hot Country, it didn’t happen the week it debuted on Country Airplay, but rather the week it jumped into the top 50.

I believe Billboard doesn't give a bullet to songs that fall more than 5 positions despite still gaining. It has happened in the past. One that comes to mind is Head Over Boots.
