Interesting how the remix is selling 300% the original's selling. But it's streamed only 80% the original's being streamed on spotify. Either an old-fashioned country artist like Billy's such a streaming-repellent even when featured on a rap song, or that they realized my haunting of the charts. Is sales chart the best chart or what? I suspect a large part of streaming comes from people listening just to the "top 50 tracks" of their country. So once you've got on that list, it's pretty difficult to be replaced by a remix.
The "most listened to" chart in effect becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy. Debut high on it and it becomes self-sustaining. Which, in part, explains why the charts have such a glacially slow rollover these days.

I thought the same. I remember following Mexico's Spotify chart because there was an artist I really liked climbing it, and I figured if he could reach the Top 50, he'd have a chance to get more streams... and it peaked at #53.

So, it's official:
"Old Town Road" is 2019's "Panda" (it may be bigger).
"Old Town Road" is starting to gain leverage in the U.K/Europe also. It's jumping on U.K Apple Music (as well as in France, Holland etc.) thus it won't be long before that translates to U.K Spotify and it starts jumping there also.
I went clubbing last night and, surprisingly, everybody knew it when it played. The crowd went crazy. It's a cultural smash hit already!
I think it will peak here in the U.K/Europe sometime around May, perhaps. If "Panda" could peak in the top 10 then this song definitely can.

This s**t bumps so hard, my local pop station played the track last night and got 40 calls requesting it to be played again. They are playing it pretty much on the hour now. This hasn't happened here since like Somebody That I Used To Know.

I see OTR performing like Panda did in 2016, a few weeks at #1. Then new Rihanna, Drake and Future, assuming a new Billie song is released (that Timbaland track and it pushed ASAP to radio, and she promotes it) and then a new Ari track in August.

Eh, yes and no. It definitely has an effect, but it's not wildly insane like the iTunes Top 10 front page boost used to be, mainly because the songs aren't plastered on a front page of anything. In order for anyone to know what the top songs are, they need to seek out said playlist and follow it. The US's chart only has a little over 3 million followers. Global has 13.6 million. Meanwhile, Today's Top Hits is about to cross 23 million followers, over 7.5 times as many followers as the US list. It's going to have a much higher impact than the top 50 chart playlist. Then there's the countless amount of other playlists. Hit Rewind has over 4 million followers, New Music Friday has about 100k more than the US Top 50, Mega Hit Mix is nearing 3 million, Rap Caviar has almost 11.5 million, Get Turnt has 5.3 million, Happy Hits has 3.7 million, etc. With the amount of playlists with around the same amount of followers as the top 50 chart, I don't really think that the chart playlist has a significantly higher influence than these others. Now songs that are in the top 50 most played are likely to be on a lot of these other playlists, but I feel like that's not really because they're in the top 50 most played chart, but rather just because they're popular with tons of hype and are likely to be added to the other playlists. Much like how radio stations don't add a track just because it hit the format's chart, they add a track because they believe it's going to do well with their listeners. It's a subtle, but major difference.

I donβt get it. OTR doesnβt sound special or interesting at all. Thereβs some recognizable part of the melody that reminds me of a childrenβs song from long ago tho. Weird it blew up.

Everyone brings up the new Rihanna song all the damn time but are we gonna ignore the fact that it could be a collab with XXXTentacion and if it was any good I could see it being huge
(If I recall correctly, X was planning to work with Diplo and Diplo had a few ideas for him, including collabs with Rihanna and the weeknd)

I would unstan Rihanna permanently if she ever did a song with that monster.

His music was also subpar as well so I wouldn't want him to bring down Queen Rih.

X's music and subpar don't go together..... 17 was one of the best albums of 2017. 17 is probably the best example of doing a emo rap album right.

Alright, we're not doing this here.
I bring up the X/Rihanna collab because while we all know the hype around new Rihanna, an X feature would do wonders for her streaming numbers. X is one of the biggest streaming artists out there, and definitely up there with Drake and Post. Homeboy has been dead for almost a year and still has six songs in the US Spotify Top 200. Such a song, especially if it caught on with the streaming audience, would be a massive streaming hit.

Man, you want to know an exciting time for chart watchers? Katy Perry's Last Friday Night. It was so close to not being #1 and the competition that summer was insane (Rolling in the Deep, Party Rock Anthem, Give Me Everything). And if it got to #1, then Katy would tie Michael Jackson for most #1 songs from an album. In the end, it got it, and did it without the need of the Missy Elliott remix that was released to help push it to #1. (Turns out all the remix did was secure a second week on top, lol.) That week was stressful, lol.

OTR on kworb's radio audience audience listed the remix as the version of record. It still doesn't have much in terms audience yet, though.
