I wonder if the testing is kicking in, because Maddie & Tae are having a WEEK so far. Bullet over 500, and looks like a lock for the top 10 on Mediabase come Sunday. This is great news. Gives me hope that if they do get a Top 3 hit out of this, it might not have to take 60 weeks to do so..

I'm so glad to see this still doing so well at radio! It's become one of my all-time favorites, up there with "Fly" and "Girl in a Country Song." Hoping this makes it to #1 and is followed up by "Bathroom Floor."

I don't want to get into too much discussion of the next single as I am LIVING for Maddie & Tae's success with this song and its journey towards #1... but it really feels like "I Don't Need To Know" is next. It was the only totally brand new song on the album that was gathering significant streams upon release and is being promo'd on various Spotify and Apple Music playlists. It is radio-ready.

"I Don't Need to Know" is the only song on the album that rivals this one for my favorite, so I would be ecstatic about this choice. They have a few viable options -- "Bathroom Floor" and "Everywhere I'm Goin'" being two of the other strong choices -- but IDNTK is the best one they can make imo. What an incredible melody and earworm that one is, with super relatable and quotable lyrics (the The only thing worse than my imagination, is all these third party observations hits so hard). They could always circle back to "Bathroom Floor" after if they want to, but I really think IDNTK is the "hit" of the record as far as what will best follow this to maximum chart success.

Maddie & Tae need a 3-4 month break after “Die from a broken heart” because this is such a huge hit it’s going to continue to get a lot of airplay. Releasing a new single right away will almost guarantee that it will struggle to climb.
I hope they can string more hits together.

I'm assuming this will fall off the chart as soon as it peaks, like most songs. They dont have superstar momentum to take time off.

Yeah one thing that happens with these large marathon chart runs is that once country radio drops the song, the song falls and falls FAST

This has been at radio since May 2019; that's over a year now. I have no doubt that the second this peaks it'll nosedive right off the face of the earth, so they can't afford to take a break like that. The best bets imo for single 3 are "Bathroom Floor" and "I Don't Need to Know."

Officially Maddie & Tae's third Top 10 single as Maddie & Tae gained 5 spots from #13 to #8 on Mediabase gaining 507 spins and 3712k in audience this week. This is now their third Top 10 single and also ties their last Top 10 single "Fly" which also peaked at #8 on Mediabase almost 5 years ago.
Unlike "Fly" this song looks like it stands a great chance of hitting #1 as it seems to be picking up a lot of momentum since hitting the Top 10.

Great to see them top 10 this week on Billboard (up 16-10 this week) - seeing them get their first top 10 since "Fly" is just so nice to see especially coming off of an album that dwindled in terms of single performance later in the era ("Shut Up And Fish" stalling in the 20s and then "Sierra" not doing much) followed by a long break and "Friends Don't" which didn't exactly set the world on fire in terms of chart performance.

I imagine a bunch of recurrents fell out of the chart? Either way, up six points is incredible!

Either way, up six points is incredible! 2 songs went recurrent ("After A Few" and "I Hope You're Happy Now") and it passed 4 songs ("In Between" which fell 1-12, "Be A Light", "I Love My Country", and "God Whispered Your Name"). It was a really close race for the #10 spot though. Only 0.6 million in audience separate #10 and #14.

This one is FLYING now. The gains it is putting up on radio just overwhelms me with joy. Like, holy fuck @ it jumping from #16 all the way up to #10 this week. I think the girls are #1-bound.

This is now at #187 on Spotify US all genre.
Not so long ago, it was very common to not have one single female country artist on the top200, now we have Gabby Barrett, Carly Pearce and Maddie & Tae. I like this new direction...

This is most definitely a future #1 single. The testing has been outstanding and the reason it's flown up the chart since reaching the top 15-20.

Officially their second highest charting single as Maddie & Tae move up to #7 with "Die From A Broken Heart", I would expect them to hit #1 after Chris Janson and LoCash clear out with their songs so I would estimate the label will be behind this song for another 6 weeks before letting it go. Definitely excited for when this hits #1, and I am hopeful this can be a Top 30 to Top 40 hit on the Hot 100.

Between this one's chart run & its absolutely outstanding streaming numbers, I can't see any way this doesn't become a #1 hit, and one of the new crowd favorites for them. So happy they've got another hit on their hands.

They were the guests on Brandy Clark's YouTube show this week, and they said that they very seriously considered pulling this single last summer, after it was failing to catch on. Good thing they didn't, but it sure has taken a long time to get to this point with it! They also revealed that the feedback they got from radio was that "Friends Don't" was 'too smart' for country radio. It's sad when that is a reason for something not to get played.
I like this song a lot, but I'm definitely ready for a new single from them. They have a lot of options on the new album, but I hope that they go with something uptempo next.

^ That is interesting about the feedback they got about “Friends Don’t”. Nothing about it seems particularly “too smart”, I like the song so nothing against the lyrics but it does seem strange. Glad this one is a hit!

I think this is a part of the reason why Kacey has trouble at radio. A lot of ppl just want stupid fun poppy catchy songs. Kacey songs make you think and wonder what she’s really trying to say.

I would love to hear from someone who finds Friends Don’t “too smart.”

I do remember thinking the hook to "Friends Don't" was really witty back when it was first released. Because the song is structured talking about all the things that friends don't do, but then revealing at the end of the chorus that they DO do those things, which implies that they must not just be friends without saying so directly. But, like, witty hooks are literally one of the frequent trademarks of country music, so if that is one of the reasons the song didn't catch on... Also, I would describe "Die From A Broken Heart" as a really "smart" song too, so it's not like they had to dumb down their material to get people to pay attention to them again

Maddie made a joke to something of the effect of "if 'Friends Don't' was too smart for radio, nothing from our album will work", haha. I agree that the lyrics are clever, but I would hope that they aren't 'too smart' for country radio. But, who knows. Off topic, but I still swear that's why Faith Hill's "Stealing Kisses" wasn't a massive hit.

Maybe it's sooner than I think but when was the last time 2 duos were in the top 10?
