I can see this peaking at #1 MB/#3 BB behind Old Dominion and Luke Combs the week of November 11/11-11/17. This Eric push gave it just the right amount of juice to climb its way to the top. Except they haven't sent the Eric Church version to radio. It's not on the publicized Play MPE, All Access and I never got it in my inbox so it appears (for now) they haven't given it to radio. Just heard it on radio tonight

I wonder if this song has enough gas in the tank to hit #1 as Keith Urban spends a second week at #4 on Mediabase. This song is approaching 28 weeks as of tomorrow so time is running out for this song and not helping "We Were" is that 3 really hot singles are really closing the gap and could all easily pass him next week (Lady Antebellum, Dustin Lynch, and Jon Pardi). Could see this song being a Mediabase only #1 with one of the three about to pass Keith Urban getting to be a 2 week Billboard #1 with a week at #1 on Mediabase.
It is so funny how after "The Fighter" it seems like country radio has begun to just phase Keith Urban out ("Female" failing to make the Billboard Top 10, "Coming Home" limping it's way to a Mediabase only #1 and "Never Comin Down" barely scraping the Top 20) and even this radio friendly song has really struggled since hitting the Top 15 I would say.

They don’t play Garth much either and he just won EOTY!! Radio play doesn’t always mean you’re done! Also look at Kacey Musgraves! Don’t know if I’ve ever heard her on my radio stations!

I am not saying Keith Urban is done as in completely irrelevant and if it came out that way I am sorry. I was just saying that it appears to me that country radio is phasing Keith Urban out. Doesn't mean he won't still be successful, just that radio seems to be starting to move on from him. Nothing more than that.

Time to max this and move on. Natural selection.

I thought this would peak in the 6-10 range based on its slow crawl inside the Top 15, so at 4 it has done well all things considered and will achieve a Top 3 peak and if they really want to, they can force at least a single chart #1.
Keith could use a really stellar single for his next one to radio. Probably the only way to assure another year in heavy rotation. But as it is, he has maintained radio relevancy longer than most all of his contemporaries and another chart topper is not going to have any notable impact on his legacy or his ability to maintain a high level of touring income, where the majority of his income comes from, as evidenced by the Forbes piece pegging his income during the last year at $35 million.
I do think this past awards cycle might be the end of his long run of multiple nominations in major categories. Long ago, Kenny, Brad, Tim, Toby saw their nominations decline or disappear and I suspect Keith is next.
All part of the evolutionary cycle and Keith has done well beyond any reasonable expectation.

I can't begin to describe how much better this song is with Eric Church on it. It was just so vanilla with only Keith's rendition. Now, this is actually a jam that I like better than most other songs in the top 10. I wish it could go to #1 somehow, but I just don't see a clear path for this to hit the top given how old it already is and the competition. It'd have to wait until after Thomas, Old Dominion and Luke Combs clear out, most likely after Christmas, to have a shot at #1 or #2. Unfortunately, a #3 peak is all I can see this achieving. I hate that because the offerings from Old Dominion, Luke Combs and Thomas Rhett are even more boring. With Church on this, "We Were" is a solid jam. Good move on Magic Mike's part putting Eric Church on this. This reminds me of Eric's older, much more exciting music before the Outsiders era. Such a classic feel. Keith and Eric should record more material together. They complement each other really well and both revive the classic, younger vibes in each other. Amazing team-up!

UMG will ask for max spins for “We Were” this week. It won’t reach #1 on either chart obviously, but they had to max it before the end of the year.

They aren’t gunning for #1 because that’s going to be Old Dominion — “We Were” is way too far behind. My guess is Keith peaks at #3 on Mediabase. I don’t see Luke falling that far this week. BMLG will max “Remember You Young” starting on Saturday.

Universal is really having a rough year. They're failing to break new artists, and some of their older, more established A-listers like Keith and Carrie have seen diminishing returns. Time for new leadership.

Time for new leadership. Except Country Radio isn't the end all be all especially with A-list artists, and their established acts like Keith Urban, Carrie Underwood, still do very well in touring and streaming. Also besides you I don't think anyone is clamoring in Nashville for the president of UMG Nashville to step down since the label is still overall very successful.

There will be a new Alpha at Universal pretty soon. The revenue is slowly drizzling away.

This is up to greatest gainer at Country now (at #4). Its gain is more than double that of the second greatest gainer ("Remember You Young" which is at #3).

No. It doesn’t cover UMG Nashville. That’s still Mike Duncan and Cindy Mabe’s. The Capitol Nashville brand has always operated separately from Capitol. Especially since the EMI/UMG merger. That won’t change here unless LA starts signing and promoting country acts on their own.

Right when this really started growing on me. Still, a top 5 peak isn't bad. It's the long-term trajectory for Keith's career that I'm concerned about.
As for UMG, Luke Bryan and Dierks Bentley will be fine. Jon Pardi continues to grow as a B-lister as well. Carrie can always get all the airplay she wants by releasing different music, and if she chooses not to go the route of producing radio-friendly material, she'll continue to make the label plenty of revenue through album sales and streaming. The label isn't in danger of collapsing any time soon. It's just surprising how much their market share has dropped since Sony got new management and emerged as a force to be reckoned with in the Goodman era. But the label will be fine. I don't see Dungan losing his position any time soon, even if Universal does have to adjust the budget and adapt to having fewer consistent hitmakers.
Mainly, I'll be looking to see how they break new artists next year. Jordan Davis has been a solid accomplishment. Travis Denning may be the next new artist to break. As long as they can break a few and keep Capitol's empire strong, they'll be fine.
