31 year old up there performing a medley of old hits, that's something I expect from 60 year old legacy acts. The way she has fallen off and reduced herself to irrelevancy, it sucks to watch. This whole Revamped thing is so unnecessary and who is even here for it?

I need her to drop that Revamped project ASAP... so she can move on from it.

It's unfortunate because I feel like Demi's in their own way of success. Like they're one of the most talented/beautiful artists out atm, but are relegated to the backseat due to their own choices and issues. There's no reason they shouldn't be stacking hits atm.

The lack of vocal restraint + the shoddy mixing job + paint by numbers rock production. Good lord this was not a good project and it sucks cause I like the originals for all these songs (minus Sorry Not Sorry, I personally victimized myself into liking it for a month or two) and my favorite album from here is Here We Go Again, which largely was a pop rock record.
But between this and Holy Fvck being just ok this sound isn't doing wonders for her overall, I will say though she sounded perfect on Substance and 29.

I feel like her lack of Pop success with DWTD made her decide to pivot back into something that was creatively fulfilling with much lower stakes. The problem is the material and execution just have not been up to par for the most part. I’ll always root for her but I need her to find a new vision.

Honestly she should take pages from Halsey's venture into rock and work with better producers/creative minds the way Halsey basically teamed up with Nine Inch Nails to make her last record, which was a really well done album and was critically praised.
Demi has the voice but the material she's making is weak and the vision is largely just bland. When she dropped Skin Of My Teeth I was hoping it signified she was taking inspiration from Hole for her sound but Holy Fvck was a very basic pop rock album. Like if she went full 90s Hole, Liz Phair, etc inspired it'd make for some great stuff I imagine.

HOLY FVCK this is not. This ain't even "SWINE." The majority of the album just feels really noisy and disconnected entirely from what made these songs hits in the first place. The Tell Me You Love Me tracks really take a hit here because it just feels like neither track was really given room to breathe and become rock songs. Instead we just got r&b/pop tracks with cheap rock production over them. And this theme carries throughout, but it's really noticeable on those two since they're naturally going to have the most trouble translating to rock. "Neon Lights" and especially "La La Land" sound hilarious now too. Those two are not meant to be anything other than the cheesy pop tracks they originally were. Now they sound like they're being taken too seriously and it just doesn't work.
That all being said, "Give Your Heart a Break" and "Don't Forget" actually managed to translate well?! Color me surprised that any track was given more than a few seconds of thought behind their revamps, but these two seem to have been given the most attention outside of maybe "Heart Attack" from actually trying to turn them into rock songs rather than just changing the production, rerecording the vocals to make them a bit more shouty and calling it a day.
I do love this rock sound on her. A lot. HOLY FVCK may actually rival Tell Me You Love Me for my favorite album from Demi (with "SWINE" and "Still Alive" also being favorites of mine), but this little niche side project is severely lacking. I appreciate what it did for her, though. She was having issues connecting with her older material as of late and this helped bridge the gap for her. I'm sure it was extremely cathartic... but unfortunately there's little here for anyone that isn't Demi herself to enjoy.
Side note, I am not here for the HOLY FVCK slander. I do think that the album is a bit disjointed when it comes to exactly what rock vibe it wants to go for, and agree that there are some basic pop/rock tracks on it ("Substance," "29," "Happy Ending," "City of Angels," "Wasted," "Come Together," "Dead Friends," and "4 Ever 4 Me" fit into that category even if I like them all to some degree), but the other tracks ("Freak," "Skin of My Teeth," "Eat Me," "Holy Fvck," "Heaven," "Bones," "Help Me," and "Feed") are definitely not basic and are a pretty deep dive into new territory for Demi and what style of music she can work with. (Whether or not they're good attempts at that is totally up to you, of course, but to me I fucking love them.) That being said, if she were to go more in a direction that Halsey took for If I Can't Have Love, I Want Power, I would not be opposed in the slightest.
But given that we went from Confident to Tell Me You Love Me to Dancing with the Devil: The Art of Starting Over to HOLY FVCK, I'm completely expecting her next album to be some other reinvention of herself a la Miley Cyrus. She hasn't done country yet (outside of "The Way You Don't Look at Me," that is), that's probably next. (The fact that I'm only half joking here, lol.)

I don't usually like the rockier sound so Holy Fvck is a nice medium for me. Although, truly, I want Demi to return to her pop sound.

OK Au$tin babe, but you actually listed all of my faves on the album as the basics. Those songs were a lot more palatable and showed she could still have strong hooks while working in the rock genre. The other ones were a bit too much for me.

OK Au$tin babe, but you actually listed all of my faves on the album as the basics. Those songs were a lot more palatable and showed she could still have strong hooks while working in the rock genre. The other ones were a bit too much for me. I mean, basic doesn't necessarily mean bad! Those tracks just definitely aren't very experimental, unique, or even really fit the aesthetic of the album. (4 Ever 4 Me playing on Android Auto with the HF cover is hilarious.) They just don't really expand much from things she's already done or other people haven't already done. That doesn't mean they're bad songs or anything. Many of them are actually really well done, but they're still pretty basic overall. (Think of it like an Ava Max album. Basic pop production, elements that have been done to death, but she owns that shit and does it well regardless, which makes for an enjoyable listen.) The other half of the album is way more in your face and experimental. I believe most of that is very well done too, but I can understand why it wouldn't be everyone's cup of tea. (Hence why I didn't put those tracks in the basic category.) They're much less easily palatable. But that doesn't necessarily make them better, just different/not basic. I know others like to use "basic" as a negative term, but IMO it's not. There are great and bad basic songs and bad and great unique songs. Hell, a good chunk of TMYLM could be considered basic, but that hasn't stopped it from being my favorite album of hers! (Hitchhiker is basic, but one of my favorites, for example.)

I feel like her lack of Pop success with DWTD made her decide to pivot back into something that was creatively fulfilling with much lower stakes. I think she just has a personality disorder/identity issue like many child stars. Her and Miley are pretty similar with the drastic image changes every few years. With them they always go 'overboard' in some aspect to present it as authentic (Miley shenanigans during Bangerz era, also Dead Petz era, then with the denouncing of all that in further eras). In this case she wanted to make Rock music, but to go the extra mile she then had to re-do all her old music as if she's ashamed of how it sounds to also present it as Rock. Rather unnecessary. This whole project is just tiring, and something that would've made sense as maybe a singular concert/performance instead of going as far as turning it into an entire era. But with Demi, it is about trying to push the current phase they're going through as their most true self. Similar to how Gaga has her Jazz projects & Drake has his Dance album, nobody is expecting them to then go back to their old music and completely re-record it to have this new chapter feel authentic. I think the whole aspect of being a child star who pretended to be other people (via playing roles) leaves some psychological issues with figuring out their true selves as they become adults and also the fact that was their fame peak and their image will always be tied to the child roles so there's a need to be more intense with their personalities/images to finally be seen differently with the public.

...I came here just to say I really enjoyed this album over my weekend drive to Boston. I think it breathes second life into a lot of the songs but especially "Heart Attack" and "La La Land". It's the first Demi album that has no skips for me in a very long time.
Remix for LE SSERAFIM's song "Eve, Psyche & The Bluebeard’s wife":
