Musically it's more of the same, almost a rehash of the first album at times. But it's nice to see a couple of songs with a bit more depth lyrically.

I wonder if these will all make the full-length album, or just a stop gap? I agree alot more lyrical depth. "Lovin On You" sounds like a smash. My guess is none of these are singles, and none make the album (hence the name of the EP is The Prequel").

All songs from the EP are now in iTunes top 10. Edit: The new songs are #3, 4, 5, 6.

"Refrigerator Door" could've benefited from a softer production, its melody is suited better to country ballad than a country rocker.

One already is a single. “Beer Never Broke My Heart” is already close to the top 10 and he’s already answered your question on one of his live Facebook chats he did a week or two ago. Yes they will all be on the album when it comes out later this year. The Prequel is just a sampling of what they’ve chosen so far out of a lot of songs he recorded he said.

It's pretty common for newer artists to drop EPs with 4-5 songs or so that eventually usually all end up on the full-length album when it comes out, provided there isn't a considerable gap of time between them. I'd have been pretty surprised if the songs weren't going to eventually be on the sophomore record as well. Luke Combs could easily get away with just leaving them on the EP and padding the record with different songs if he wanted to, but it would be unconventional for sure.
As for all the new songs, I'm loving them all as I expected. "Refrigerator Door" is the standout of the 4 though, and I'd love if that were a single. If they go with another single from the EP before the rest of the album drops, I'd bet on it being that one.

Lovin’ on You is a smash waiting to happen. I hope they release that one.

Loving On You is such a jam. Horns!! 80’s country jam.
Everything on here is a smash. I love the chorus of Moon Over Mexico, Even Though I’m Leaving shows some serious writing skills, though it makes me sad. Refrigerator Door sounds like something Church would write.

Based on the way the numbers are going for the new songs, "Even Though I'm Leaving" is the one really connecting with the general public. Any of the songs could be smashes, but it seems like the people have spoken that this is the fan favorite from the EP.

The Prequel has sold 22,000 copies to come in at #1 country, #4 top 200. Congratulations, Luke Combs.

The cynical side in me says they’ll go with “Lovin’ on You” as the next single but man, as hot as he is, he could take a song like “Even Though I’m Leaving” to #1...that song sounds like something from 20 years ago. My dad was the most important person in my life growing up and that song hit me hard. It’s definitely my favorite off the EP.
“Lovin’ on You” is my least favorite but I still like it quite a bit! I’m hoping “Refrigerator Door” also gets to radio.

I still think Even Though I’m Leaving is and should be the planned second single. After all, it is the only song that does not have any music videos, and it is still top 10 on country iTunes.

The public has spoken and "Even Though I'm Leaving" really oughta be a single. It's the "Beautiful Crazy" of the EP. Even if they went with a safer option like "Refrigerator Door" next (like when they did "She Got the Best of Me" first from the re-release), the general public would be clamoring for "Leaving." Very impressive how much that one resonated and separated itself from the other 3 songs with its performance.

I was just listening to “Moon Over Mexico” and even though it wasn’t one of my favorites at first it just feels so mesmerizing. It’s a really nice song and it feels really wintery to me for some reason. I know there’s summer songs but I really see this one as a winter one for some reason. Maybe they should put it out the song after next.
