How much is a point worth dollar wise? It doesn't translate very well, considering this measures only Hot 100 performance and songwriters can get royalties from album sales, performances, licensing for commercials, movies and TV shows, not to mention pay outs that have changed with time and depending on the platform for the various forms of consumption, different ratios of worldwide to US consumption, and widely differing recurrent stats - they're much better for rock songwriters like Mick Jagger than for Curtis Mayfield for example. But adjusted for inflation, I'd say one point is worth somewhere in the hundreds to thousands of dollars.

Well, there goes 2 more of my guesses! I thought maybe the sheer number of Gamble/Huff hits would be enough, but the lower chart positions did them in. Wonder how many of my now 10 guesses will be in the Top 11?!?

Since Gamble and Huff are now out of the running, I decided to add Taylor Swift to my guess list. I think she has a few too many co-writers, but she did also write quite a few big hits by herself and don't believe she's been done yet, so just maybe she's in the Top 11. So, here are my current guesses:
Paul McCartney John Lennon Prince - finished at #7 Diane Warren Stevie Wonder - finished at #8 Smokey Robinson - finished at #10 Babyface Max Martin R. Kelly Lionel Richie - finished at #9 Taylor Swift - finished at #11

The #11 songwriter may have been underestimated by some due to having fewer #1 hits than most of the songwriters in the top 10. However, charts in the last few decades have exhibited different patterns compared to the 60s-70s when chart runs were shorter and there were a lot more #1s in any given year, usually around 25-30 songs per year, sometimes even more, with 35 songs reaching #1 in both 1975 and 1976. Based on how this songwriter's songs ranked within their year of release, they would probably have roughly twice as many #1 hits if the charts had similar characteristics as the charts of the 60s and 70s.
The song that earned them the most points charted for almost a year, earning them more songwriter points than any song from the songwriters in the top 10 aside from a couple songs by Dianne Warren and Babyface, and reached #1 on the year end radio songs chart, yet it did not reach #1 on the Hot 100.

Curious what Sam Hunt is at? I know he's written quite a few songs for other country artists as well as Montevallo.

I was looking for Mickey's Monkey in the list of Miracles hits for Smokey, but it turns out it was a Holland-Dozier-Holland track!
People forget (or more likely never knew) that the nickname "Smokey" was a joke. Usually, that was a nickname for the bass-voiced member of a vocal group, and Smokey's voice was light as a breeze.

Stevie Wonder is an American treasure. In my opinion, the best songwriter, keyboardist, and producer in my lifetime. Period.

I put together a list of the top 150 Hot 100 hits performed, written or produced by The Beatles, solo or group, so there aren't a lot of surprises in the Lennon list, but It's For You by Springwell definitely qualifies. The list, in quiz form is here, in case anyone want to try it out. The rankings may not match the ordered list from nickd , and it certainly hints at one of the songwriters still to come.
