The lyrics are CRINGY af. Also pandering.
Her work with Joel Little is not up to par. Better than Me! but what isn't.

I don't see the issue with the song utilizing pro-lgbt lyrics or supposedly "pandering" to the lgbt community? She contributes financially to causes that help the community and is publicly vocal in addressing politics concerning issues the lgbt community face. It makes sense her advocacy as of late might find its way into her music. She has decided to be more vocal about causes that are important to her and haa decided to use her voice to help the disenfranchised. Honestly it is a GREAT thing, particularly in pride month, but naturally there will be some who try to spin it into a negative. Damned if you do, damned if you don't type deal.

Does this sample The Knife's "Heartbeat"? Sounds like it...
I like it, it gets more infectious with every listen, I find myself bopping. Better than "Me!" for me, even though I never thought that one sucked.

Really catchy chorus, this song is much better than ME!

Yeah, glad I'm not the only one who immediately thought The Knife. I like the production. I don't think the lyrics are bad on their face, she just doesn't have the edge to pull them off. Not sure if it's her delivery or her persona (or a combination of both), but she needs to stop going for these "biting" songs, because it just comes off slightly... embarrassing. Maybe embarrassing is a strong word? It's definitely ill-fitting. But the song isn't bad, it's catchy. I put it on the same level as "Me!" which aside from being super reductive, I've never hated. She can do better, still waiting for the album. I think this will perform very similarly to "RFI."
As for her "pandering" to the gays... as a gay man who grew up in the Bible-belt South where NO ONE was voicing support for me, please, pander to me all day long. She can cram these pro-gay lyrics down everyone's throat and I'm here for it. I believe she's very genuine in her support of the gay community. The same way I believe that she's very deliberate in doing so and playing to a large part of her fanbase. Whatever, like all pop music, it's a mix of art and commerce.

My first instinct was that the lyrics are pandering, but I think that was just me not being used to this kind of support from mainstream artists, and also the lyric video feeling a little self-congratulatory... will this be the first hit song to explicitly mention LGBTQ+ people? So many so-called “Gay Pride” anthems by straight women are vague af.
Upon repeat listens, my only problem with the lyrics is the misuse of “shade” in the second verse.

ME is miles better.
this one has great beat. But very bad lyrics. Oh Oh part is annoying. Needs to have a faster chorus. No memorable climax

I'm sure I will end up enjoying this a bit because it's Taylor and I always end up liking her stuff, but this is extremely bland and cringy. I don't hate it but it sounds like the type of juvenile stuff Katy Perry would have done in the past. If the rest of the album is in this lane... mess. this sounds like a desperate attempt to get the gays back on board When did we leave? Just because "ME!" ain't great doesn't mean i'm not playig "Delicate" daily anyways :kii:

I actually think the lyrics are the best part? But the delivery/production is very "track that plays at the credits for some Disney movie".

Her vocals could be better and she could have made the track more challenging. All things considered I like this, but she could have released literally anything for 1989 and I'd have liked it better.

This is OK. Not what I wanted after “ME!” But if it had been the lead I would have liked it a lot more I think.
Great beat. I think this one will be a big radio hit, though. Surprised some people don’t.

Not really liking this. Me is better. Not a fan of the way she speaks the title In the chorus. This sounds like album filler from 1989. Imo this isn’t going to turn things around.

I’ve been listening to this all day to try and force myself to like it but.. I just can’t get into it :( I regret comparing this to TIWWCHNT because that is amazing compared to this, at least it goes somewhere. Even the singing in Gorgeous is more tolerable than this. This is just boring :( I’m looking forward to the 23rd of August

She has definitely hit a creative roadblock. She’s always walked a fine line of going cheesy and amateur with her lyrics but this era is on another level.

So the mixed bag seems to be loving hell out of it or just despising its existence.

So the mixed bag seems to be loving hell out of it or just despising its existence. Pretty much sums up her musical output since 1989. There is no middle ground.

This sounds like a bad album track to me, not single material.
