Cannot wait.
“Melodrama” is probably my favourite album of all time. I do have a lot of memories of a new and lasting relationship attached to it, so I’m sure that helps. But I think she’s an artist with talents that far, far exceed her years and I’m perched to listen to her music evolve.

I've had many bittersweet memories attached to Melodrama (specifically "Perfect Places" and "Writer in the Dark"). It also was an important part of my healing process from a past relationship. So I doubt any future albums from her will top that one for me. But damn even the thought of her releasing new music already excites me.

Echoing the sentiments here that Melodrama was so personal to me. When that album came out, it hit me like a bag bricks because she was singing everything I was feeling at the time. I can’t even listen to that album anymore without bursting into tears. I eventually went to the concert with the guy I think about when I listen to that album, and it was so cathartic. Truly one of the most transcendent concert experiences I’ve ever had.

For me Pure Heroine was that album. The one where the themes and stories matched my life beautifully and made a huge impact on my life because of it.

Melodrama is one of the best albums ever made, start to finish. Very few songs have hit me personally as much as The Louvre, Hard Feelings/Loveless, Supercut, and Liability have. For an artist so young, she has an amazing sense of emotional intelligence.

Thought that there was more info about new music and got way too excited when I saw this thread bumped, but I def ain’t mad at the praise for Melodrama.
Melodrama is one of the best albums ever made and hits home [5] For whatever reason I didn’t connect with the album until that winter, but once it hit it HIT. Whew. This album encapsulates winter 2017 for me in the fact that it described my life and the emotions I was feeling perfectly. It’s become one of my most cherished albums and it definitely played a role in helping me to move on from the negativity that fall (and the people in it) brought. She just gets it.
Sentimentality aside, it’s just a stellar piece of work. There’s not a single song that I’d skip, and tbh I can never just play any of the songs individually because I always want to hear the whole thing. “Sober”, “Hard Feelings/Loveless”, “Supercut”, “Liability”, “The Louvre”— ugh, all so brilliant. Forever mad that this album wasn’t inescapable and didn’t receive the awards that it should’ve, but regardless it remains one of the best (if not THE best) pop albums of the decade. If she delivers something with half the level of quality that Melodrama has then it’s a win. So hype.

"Melodrama" was an excellent album and one of my favorites from the past 2-3 years. Hoping the next one will be on par.

Yeah Melodrama is the type of album where the reprises are better than 99% of major artists' discographies. Beyond hyped for this.

Damn, even in a letter describing the process of making music and the relationship she had with her dog, her writing skills are beyond remarkable.

Wow that was really sad to read. Poor thing. She is in an interesting position- as someone who is cognitive of the charts I feel like her delay with music is just diminishing her mainstream brand. But you forget those probably aren’t her priorities and she really is an artist.

I'm obviously the first in line for new music from Ella but it almost feels like Melodrama is... new? It feels as if it came out last summer. It's been two and a half years now and it hasn't aged one bit.

Melodrama is fantastic but Pure Heroine is still THAT album. So ahead of its time and so mature for her age.

PH crawled so Melodrama could soar. Let this be the end of the comparisons between the two. One is a strong debut; the other, a magnum opus.

I revisited Melodrama about a year ago given the near-unanimous consensus that it's superior to her debut, which I was always more enamored with, and still found that I preferred the debut. There's just something mesmerizing, surprising, sparkling to it. I can see why people would find Melodrama superior, but it reminds me of movies like Roma, The Artist, The Irishmen...technically perfect and mature/deep, but doesn't live under my skin the way more surprising, unique, still accessible films like Moonlight, Parasite, Tully, etc. But maybe it's time to listen again.

I’ve been revisiting both albums a lot recently and while I still quite prefer Melodrama (I don’t know if anything will ever quite touch this album for me, tbh), I’ve also started to become enamored with Pure Heroine all over again. I agree with the comment about the album being mesmerizing.. it still feels so fresh and there’s an understated energy to it. It also contains some of her career best— “Ribs” and “Buzzcut Season” in particular stop me in my tracks every time they come on. They haven’t aged a day.
Can’t wait to see what she delivers next. Hopefully the new album comes sooner rather than later, but I’m fine with waiting if it means we get something as good as her first two albums.

"Buzzcut Season" is still my favorite song from her and stops me in my tracks every time it comes on.

My favorite song on Pure Heroine is 400 Lux (which has made me cry; I lived those lyrics for a good few years in my 20s) and Team. While there will always be a special place in my heart for that album (I remember getting really excited for it to drop after her EP), those are really the only two songs I revisit still. Now, Melodrama...I can play all day err day straight through and fall in love anew every time. I think the two albums represent very different feelings. Melodrama is soul-crushing and I operate mainly in that space, so that album was literally created for me.
