25. The Sundays - GoodbyeNot much going on, but really good vocals. I might have under ranked it a tad, I think in my case? It was tooooooooooooo pleasant for its own good. 24. Primus - My Name Is MudThis was a sure tune out from the very first note. A hard listen to sit through. Did they record this and submit it played backwards? Missed opportunity for a joke. MoD could have changed the title to "My Name is Mod" 23. Cracker - LowHere is a great song where the last guitar twang is the best part. 22. Dinosaur Jr. - Start Choppin This seems like a really random song to end up so high, but it wasn't too bad. "john" Dinosaur almost sounds a little like "john" Crash Test Dummie". 21. Red Hot Chili Peppers - Soul to SqueezePrequel to "Scar Tissue". Flea is a bass demon. 20. Tears For Fears - Break It Down AgainThis was my favorite post 90's TFF song that was actually a Roland Orzabal solo effort. That's why you only see him on the sleeve cover. So MoD and I fully back this melodic wonder up, yet we were worlds apart when it came to ranking the Primus noize. Go figure. 19. Pearl Jam - GoI didn't fully tank this because it was harder than most of their other Jams, but it really doesn't "Go" anywhere musically. 18. Goo Goo Dolls - We Are The NormalOnce again you all surprise me , but in a nice way. I always make room for Goo Goo Dolls. 17. Tasmin Archer - Sleeping SatelliteThis sounded like a first time listen, but a good one. Almost made my top 50. 16. Blind Melon - No RainThis sounded like a lost song from the Hippie era. It sounded even worse among the Active list songs, but I'm sure you gonna find a a way to rank it higher than Jackyl's songs. 15. Jellyfish - The Ghost At Number OneAnother great first time listen. "how does It feel" part won me over....and the guitars of course. 14. Depeche Mode - I Feel You 80's icons ,forgetting how to sound like the 80's. I will upgrade songs from "Violator", but the truth is I didn't care for Guitar Depeche Mode except on "Personal Jesus", and I think I still prefer Manson's version. 13. The Catherine Wheel - CrankNo complaints here. I love this band. Rob is a very underrated vocalist. "Black Metallic" could make top 10. 12. Duran Duran - Come UndoneI love Duran Duran songs so much that even a song with "that" kind of percussion sounded great behind Simon's vocals. Duran Duranies come through. 11. R.E.M. - Man on the MoonGreat song from R.E.M.. I swear the vision I get is Luke Perry with a cowboy hat strolling around Beverly Hills when this song plays. i think he serenaded Shannon(Brenda) with this song in one of the 90210 episodes.

26.58I'm done in the stats department. I'm not even in the red this time. Now for the last set of extras:Shaggy - Oh CarolinaYou know I might have upped Primus a bit if songs like these and Stereo M.C.s had made the YE list? Man. Shaggy's vocal tones was like sticking raw fish in my ears. Peter Gabriel - Kiss That FrogDon't wanna give nothing a way for my Active list, but this sounds like a bonafide Butterflies & Hurricanes #1 song. Ace of Base - All That She Wants"that" percussion was back. For the record I enjoyed the whistling in this song. An Emotional Fish - RainBrought to you by Rhino productions. The wonder Stuff - On the RopesI like the addition of strings in the intro. Not much more to add except that its a decent alt rocker. Therapy? - Screamager So this had some Offspring vibes. Pretty fierce. Where is American Idiot like button? Ziggy Marley - Brothers and SistersThis bites compared to the Iron Lion thingie we ranked. Messiah - Temple of DreamsYou should have kept this one deleted. Boy George - The Crying GameFor some reason I liked and charted this one to #23. Must have been the Boy George charm. Aimee Mann - I Should've KnownGood vocals. I loved their 80's stuff, but this is pretty good too. UB40 - Higher Ground For a minute I thought this was a RHCP's cover. ooh this really stunk .Won't be returning to this ever. Gene Loves Jezebel - JosephinaI love this band. "Desire" seems like eons away. 1986. We should get a chance to rank "Jealous". It was a #1 song on Alt. Belly - GepettoMuch better than whatever song we ranked from them on this RD. I feel silly singing the lyric "Shalala Gepetto"or whatever she's singing tho, but I really like the song. Living Colour - NothingnessAlways thought this band was named after that Wayons Bros. variety show? This band did nothing for me musically. Machines of Loving Grace - Butterfly Wingsi didn't click with this one one bit. Jesus Jones - The Right DecisionI Found no use for this song nor this band.

Like always I still have two bottom tankers swimming around on this top 10, but I also have two top 10's. Which ones will prevail? 1. What songs are you surprised to see make top 10?
I'm surprised New Order. PULSE and 80's all stars don't always gel well, but hopefully this repeats itself during the 80's RDs? and that Björk song. Surprising? No. Disappointing? yes. 2. What songs are you disappointed to see miss top 10? Lenny Kravitz guitar fire and both Duran Duran songs. I'm more pissed than surprised. 3. Would you like to predict the order, or at least the #1?Should be easy for most of you to guess my remaining #s?. 1. My #1 song 2. My #10 3. My #13 4. My #16 5. My #25 6. My #30 7. My #36 (might surprise you?) 8. My #39 9. My #91 10. My #98 but you guys might do this instead. 1. Radiohead - Creep 2. Stone Temple Pilots - Plush 3. Nirvana - Heart-Shaped Box 4. The Cranberries - Dreams 5. The Smashing Pumpkins - Cherub Rock 6. New Order - Regret 7. The Cranberries - Linger 8. Depeche Mode - Walking in My Shoes 9. Björk - Human Behaviour 10. The Breeders - Cannonball

these reveals (100-13 anyway) seem so random to me ... the Top 12 are not surprising though as they are all bonafide classics

You guys should know the drill by now, but if you don't...if I'm typing in Georgia, size three, it can only mean that it's time for the TOP TEN P-P-P-P-PREVIEW! As always, if I make a mistake and/or screw up somewhere, everyone will jump to make sure that I know.
- We'll see three first timers in this rankdown, as Björk, The Breeders, and New Order are in the top ten for the very first time. This is Björk's last chance as a solo act (though we'll be ranking her a few more times as part of a group), while this is, I believe, the last time we're ranking The Breeders. We will be ranking songs by at least one of the members in the coming years, however. As for New Order, this will not be their last rodeo in a rock chart rankdown. - The Cranberries are doubling up in top ten appearances tonight and tripling up in top ten appearances altogether, venturing into the top ten for the second and third time, respectively. All three of their top tens have been in the last two rankdown years, and it stands to reason that both "Dreams" and "Linger" could have a chance to win. - Depeche Mode took a couple of years off, but they are back in the top ten for the third time. Given the band's stature, it's a little surprising that we haven't seen them make the top five yet. Will "Walking in My Shoes" get them there for the first time? - Radiohead have made the top ten at almost every opportunity in the 1990's, with this marking their fourth top ten appearance. They will be looking to one-up their best performance ("Karma Police" and its oh-so-close runner-up finish in 1998), and "Creep" has a very good chance of doing just that. - Nirvana are now in the fifth top ten, all five happening in the last three rankdown years. Despite this fact, they have only reached the top five once...and not very high up in said top five. Can "Heart-Shaped Box" change that? - Stone Temple Pilots continue to wreak havoc on the top ten in their most popular eras, making their seventh top ten with one of their most popular songs. Can "Plush" do one better than "Interstate Love Song" last year? - And finally, for the last time, the Smashing Pumpkins are in the top ten. Making their eleventh top ten appearance, the Pumpkins are also the only band in this top ten to have won a rock chart rankdown before ("1979" in 1996 Alt). Can they do it a second time in their last possible opportunity?

Yea but you've ranked TSP really low before too. Cherub Rock is the only song in this top 10 that wasn't in your Year-End charts, and you ranked it bottom half in Red's Journey Through Time. It's the option with the most evidence behind it 🤷

1. Creep 2. Linger 3. Plush 4. Dreams 5. Cherub Rock 6. Cannonball 7. Walking In my shoes 8. Regret 9. Heart Shaped Box 10. Human Behavior

The fact that this song nearly hit #1 on the Alt chart, even given her past on Alt, is nothing short of mind-blowing. This song is wild, unquestionably one of the most out there songs to chart this decade, and certainly one of the most out there to chart this high.

I actually had this lower initially, but after listening to it for the 5500th time, it really hit me that, despite how many times I've heard this song and never, ever, ever, ever want to hear it again...I can't deny the strength of the song itself.
But god, am I happy to know that it's not going to win this.
