#90. Josh Thompson - "Beer On The Table"
"Beer On the Table" was released as the debut single for Josh Thompson in July of 2009. It peaked at #16 on Mediabase in February of 2010. The song was written by Thompson, Ken Johnson and Andi Zack. It was off his Way Out Here album. I didn't think this would do particularly well but I'm kind of shocked there were so many 100+ rankings for this one. It's FAR from a masterpiece but I find no problem with it. Josh's voice could be an issue with some but I think this song is really fun and much better than his second single.

Released in January of 2010, it peaked at #34 on Billboard in April. The song was written by Jewel, Bobby Pinson and Dallas Davidson. It was also off the Valentine's Day movie soundtrack.
There's something about this song's melody and arrangement I love. The lyrics are pretty throwaway but I enjoy it. I was unsure exactly where this would finish because I know some here dislike Jewel's singing voice.

They were comprised of brothers Zack Hooper and Adam Hooper, along with John Mildrum. They released their debut and only radio single, "I Can't Make It Rain" in September of 2009. It peaked at #44 in February of 2010.
They get their name from their home county in Alabama.
I think this song had a real good showing here since pretty much nobody remembers Houston County. "I Can't Make It Rain" was a really good song and it's odd they only got one single at radio. Stroudavarious had a hard time getting new or lesser known artists up the charts back then but a top 45 peak was decent here.

Jewel is so underrated. Her two country records for Valory were impeccable. They're both among my favorite country albums, period. Her voice is beautiful and the production and songwriting were both so on-point. Wish she could've had more success at the format and been able to release more material in that lane. The last album she put out is sort of a middle ground between that sound and her older work, and as much as I enjoy her classics from the 90s and such, I think her country work is her strongest for me personally.

#87. Ash Bowers - "Ain't No Stopping Her Now"

It peaked at #44 in April but lasted on the chart through May. Ash's first single was "Stuck" in 2009, which fell just short of the top 40 on both charts. After a third single barely charting in 2011, Ash left Broken Bow Records/Stoney Creek. He later released an album in 2013 off his Wide Open Records. Ash now owns his Wide Open company, writing and producing songs for both Jimmie Allen and Matt Stell.
Really good song here and I probably under-ranked it a bit. I really enjoyed Ash's independent album in 2013. It's a shame he couldn't get a hit with Stoney Creek but it's cool he's found success in the producing/business side of Nashville.

The song peaked at #32 on Mediabase in April of 2010. It was promoted through Stroudavarious Records, with BamaJam Matt's home label. The song was written by Kennon, Noah Gordan and Jeremy Campbell. Gordan had his own record deal in the 90's. "The Call" was off Matt Kennon's self-titled, debut album.
I knew this would see some low ranks -- his voice is polarizing. It's rougher for sure but I have no problem with it. This song, he doesn't need to belt out any notes, like say Tyler Farr's "Hello Goodbye." This song is so damn good though, it's always been in my top 3-4 favorites from 2010. It would've been neat to see another established artist record and release it.

I love this one. Great melody and the music is so infectious. James' vocals are really good here and that was always one of his strengths. It's not anything to write home about lyrically but I remember being really surprised when this stalled in the 20's. Other than one huge hit, he usually had a hard time getting hits at radio.

The song peaked at #31 for three weeks on Mediabase in January/February of 2010. The song was written by Bomshel members Kristy Osmunson and Kelley Shepard, along with Mark Irwin and Josh Kear.
Bomshel was started back in 2005 by Osmunson and former member Buffy Lawson. They signed to Curb Records and charted four singles with Buffy on lead vocals. Lawson left in 2008 and was replaced by singer Kelley Shepard. Bomshel disbanded in 2012. Their highest charting single was "Fight Like a Girl", which got to #29 on Mediabase in 2009.
I love this song's melody and even though its production and music isn't exactly stone cold country, it's really fun and a great sing-along. The singles when Buffy Lawson sang lead were great though and it's a shame Curb couldn't break them. Kristy Osmunson is now one-half of the duo, American Young. She's one of the nicest people you'll ever meet and always loves reminiscing on her Bomshel days.

Never much cared for Bomshel, but "19 and Crazy" was the one big exception. That song had such a catchiness to it that really worked for me, even though I was never particularly keen on their vocals.
"Hip to My Heart" is the worst. The Band Perry did such a 180 going from that to "If I Die Young" and I couldn't be more thankful for it, because I basically wound up loving everything else they released from then on, but that debut single... yikes.

Yeah, I didn't know anything about Bombshel before doing rankdowns here. I definitely liked this better than "Fight Like a Girl" (from whatever rankdown that was in). I loved Jewel's songs here more than any others I've heard from her in country, too. (Dierks Bentley, whose voice I'm generally not a fan of, had two songs I actually really liked also, shockingly).
Love "Stay Here Forever" and "Ain't No Stopping Her Now," and "Groovy Little Summer Song" is cute and harmless. I don't mind "The Call"--the singer's voice is what put me off more than anything else. I'm Christian, but some of the lyrics in "There Is a God" turned me off for reasons I won't go into. LAW has some other religious songs I do like.

Yeah, I didn't know anything about Bombshel before doing rankdowns here. I would suggest taking a listen to some of Bomshel's early singles, especially "It Was An Absolutely Finger-Lickin', Grits and Chicken, Country Music Love Song" and "The Power of One."

The song peaked at #2 in June. It was written by Rodney Clawson and Brett Jones.
This song is just blah. The loud production and mediocre lyrics -- it was foreshadowing his future output. Other than "She's Country," I liked or Loved every single Aldean released before "Crazy Town." I'm also surprised they released this and it got to #2. It has such a niche subject. I know Nashville's lifestyle is widely known but these biographical songs are usually never released but unlike AJ's "Chasin' That Neon Rainbow," this one isn't very good.

He later independently released two singles to radio in 2014 and 2015 ("Holy Cowgirl" and "Playing With Fire").
Good song. The music and vocals are great but the melody doesn't flow too well, imo. I liked J. Michael Harter's solo music.

I probably under-ranked this one. Little lower than I should've put it. Really good melody and nice arrangement. 2010 and 2011 had a lot of one or two single artists and then completely gone, unfortunately Coldwater Jane were one of those artists.

"Jenny" by The Harters HAS to be out just because it's unknown, cuz that song is absolutely INCREDIBLE!!!!! The melody is out of this world good and the instumentation is fantastic. I am disgusted by it being out so soon. And you all come for ME for my taste. *insert eyeroll here*
The Gloriana song is the only one I'm okay with leaving, the rest in this set deserved better. All very good.

I followed Reba's album rankdown series and the moment I saw There Is A God is trashed there I knew LAW's version will not do well here. My love-hate relationship with those Christian songs continues...On one hand I agree with other posters that the lyrics of this one are just not good. On the other hand LAW's vocals are so pristine (especially comparing with other female vocalists in this rankdown), and the melody is great!
This Ain't No Love Song is such a boring ironic song. It does not help that Trace's range is extremely narrow in that song.

It peaked at #49 on Mediabase in late May. The song was written by Janson, Cole Deggs and Phil O'Donnell. The song wasn't included on an album off BNA as Janson left the label by 2011 when BNA restructured but Sony did release an EP with the song in 2014 called Take It to the Bank. Janson later signed with Bigger Picture in 2013 and charted two singles. After that label folded in 2014, he signed with Warner Music Nashville in 2015 after "Buy Me a Boat" was released.
The majority of country music listeners/fans have zero idea Janson had a debut single back in 2010. Many probably don't even remember "Better I Don't" or "Cut Me Some Slack" from 2013, let alone this one from 2010. I like it but not that crazy about this one -- I enjoy many others more by Chris.

Never took a liking to Chris Janson, but I really liked this one despite my middling rank.
