For our next reveal another fellow poster has to depart with a top 5 and for the second time we see "The Angel Number" 8-8-8 appear in what was the 10th most polarizing song of the rankdown...

As much as I loved "Leave The Pieces" and Michelle Branch, I never liked "My Oh My" at all and was shocked it was the second single. :/

"Satisfied" has no business being out so early! What an incredible song, from the instrumentation to the vocals to the lyrics. I was obsessed with this when it was released and have been a huge Ashley Monroe fan ever since! Shame it got shafted here.
That's all I got lol. Bye.

“When You Lie Next to Me” was the lead-off single and title track to Kellie Coffey’s debut album. Released in 2001, this became her only Top 10 hit on the country charts. Coming in as the 10th most polarizing song of the rankdown taylor is our next participant to depart with their #2 song while four others lose yet another bottom 5 including someguy ’s last place ranking. While the majority of us placed this in their top 40 it did receive a lifeline from .indulgecountry , Cody Wants Out... , and toomuchboy who all put this in their top 10. Unfortunately nickd ’s bottom 5 was enough to knock this out of the top 30.

“Flies on the Butter (You Can't Go Home Again)" was released as the third single from Wynonna’s sixth studio album What the World Needs Now Is Love. It peaked at #33 on the country charts in 2004. This beats its peak on the country charts by one spot but comes in as the 4th most polarizing song of the rankdown. This had enough early support to be a top 20 contender but ended up sliding back further and further as it received a handful of top 50’s and two bottom 5’s including a last place from gardyfan . Unfortunately BackwoodsBarbie becomes our third participant to see their #1 song depart while someguy loses his first top 5. And after just losing her top song taylor and Darkest Hour see two top 10’s slide away. And don’t forget about someguy’s Wynonna/The Judds Rankdown which is due next month!

“Somebody’s Hero” was released as the second single to Jamie O’Neal’s second studio album Brave. Released in April 2005, it peaked at #3 on the country charts giving O’Neal her sixth Top 40 country hit and her third top ten hit. While no top 10’s are lost this ended up getting quite a bit of support from a handful of top 30’s along with four top 20’s. While no one loses a top 10 taylor ’s string of loses continue as she says goodbye to a top 15 along with d3vin44 . Only three participants placed this in their top 50 while Darkest Hour is the only one to put this in their bottom 5.

50. Different Breed 49. I Cry 48. Stronger Woman 47. Sometimes It Takes Balls to Be a Woman 46. Unglamorous

I loved The Wreckers and "My Oh My" is quiet good, but two album tracks that I vastly prefer are "Rain" and "Lay Me Down," both of which would have been in my top 10 had they been in this instead. "Stand Still, Look Pretty" is also pretty gorgeous. But again, it was an excellent album.
That "Flies On The Butter" song was a rough listen. oof.
"Somebody's Hero" has always been one of my favorite Jamie O'Neal tunes. The lyrics are absolutely incredible and I love the vocal arrangement and how much emotion there is in Jamie's delivery. Just a fantastic song all the way around.

Just a fantastic song all the way around. I’m actually pleasantly surprised to hear you say this because I honestly would’ve guessed that this would be the kind of song you wouldn’t like! Jamie really has such a unique voice and she was on a roll in the early 2000’s with a string of great songs that never get old.

Well some of y'all are just cruel WYLNTM is one of my absolute favorite country songs of all time after this rankdown exposed me to it for the first time. Everything about it is incredible. EVERYTHING. For it to stop outside of the top 30 hurts bad. It easily deserves a Top 5 placement. Also slightly bitter about Somebody's Hero. I wish this could've gone up to at least a Top 25 finish. And how on earth is this song in particular by The Judds not in the Top 10. It's absolutely beautiful and stunning and magnificent. Guess my time to be mad has arrived lol

Well Enchanted is technically from the next decade. I wonder which Taylor Swift song from the 00s would've had the best shot in this RD. I think You Belong With Me works great as a pop song, but that might not be such an advantage in this RD. Maybe Should've Said No? It's my favorite song from her debut album and one of her more country leaning songs. It does seem like I'm not the only one that likes it since I've seen it challenge Teardrops and Our Song in many fan rankings despite those being bigger hits.

Lol “You Belong With Me” is very much a country song! Us tractors definitely claim it! The only reason it might not be a great choice for a Rankdown like this is because it has been so overplayed that some people can barely listen to it anymore... Taylor was always at a disadvantage in this Rankdown though for that very reason. The only songs that really qualify for this decade are the ones from her first couple of albums, which were all a relatively similar amount of overplayed. Not to mention that her shaky unseasoned early vocals are especially noticeable alongside all the people like Martina McBride, Carrie Underwood, Jo Dee Messina, Reba McEntire, Sara Evans, Trisha Yearwood, Faith Hill, etc. who are consistently praised for being among the greatest vocalists in the history of country music. The point is, I feel like Taylor would have had an uphill battle no matter which song was picked. Personally I think “Fearless” was the perfect choice, because it was not as overplayed as her earlier hits, and was also one of her more solid early-career vocal efforts.

Thanks for pointing that out nickd as I had completely overlooked "Enchanted" being from the Speak Now era which began in 2010. I was trying to find an album track that had performed well in one of her earlier album rankdowns and remembered that song as being a top favorite so hence the reason for it's inclusion in the encore section. As bboat11 pointed out, though, no matter which song was selected she'd still have an uphill battle as her songs continue to be quite polarizing overall. I looked back at the YE Rankdowns for 2007, 2008, and 2009 and her highest ranking songs were "Our Song" at #24 and "Tim McGraw" at #25 (2007 YE Rankdown) as well as "You Belong With Me" at #31 (2009 YE Rankdown). Her average, though, for all nine songs in those YE Rankdowns was 43! And she actually had the same average in bboat11 's inaugural Best of the Best Country Rankdown Winners where she had five songs included with the highest ranking one being "All Too Well" at #33. "Fearless" was at the top of my list for songs that I wanted to include for this rankdown and I thought it fit in perfectly with the overarching "This One's for the Girls" theme that I was aiming for in my song selection. I've just begun my search of songs for the next series and so far I still have no idea what to select for Taylor as I'll be choosing from either the Speak Now or [ Red eras...maybe I'll just go with "Safe & Sound" lol!

“Simple Life” was released as the third single from Carolyn Dawn Johnson’s second studio album Dress Rehearsal. Co-written by Carolyn, Troy Verges, and Aimee Mayo, the song went on to become a Top 15 hit in 2004. This song had a great start as it briefly flirted with the top 10 but slowly began to trend downward as the lists came in. It almost looked as if this was on track to miss the top 40 as .indulgecountry came in with the lone bottom 5 but thanks to some top 5 support from d3vin44 and austin it rebounded enough to settle within the mid 30’s. It wasn’t until the final list came in from nickd that this buoyed to the top 30 all thanks to his #1 placement and unfortunately he does become the fourth participant to depart with their top ranked song. I don’t have any regrets over selecting this song as it’s always been one of my favorites from Carolyn and I’m thrilled it got as much support as it did. This is still a go-to song for me and one that never fails to put me in a good mood. Oh and the GIF was of course in reference to the reality show The Simple Life starring none other than Paris Hilton and Nicole Richie which aired from 2003 - 2007.
