Omg I was worried it wouldn't get to #1 on HCS since it was already decreasing in airplay. This is awesome news! She deserves! First #1 for a solo female on that chart since Kelsea Ballerini's "Peter Pan" iirc? it’s actually still increasing in overall audience due to play on non-country stations

This is so going strong for me at least, so happy she got the multi-week #1!

Will remain on Mediabase for another 3 weeks as this gained 28 spins yesterday and has a bullet of +113 so ya not leaving yet. Expected to go recurrent now on April 19th.

I swear this song since the label dropped it (let me emphasize the label is not actively promoting this song to country radio) has had the most insane luck on Mediabase as both weeks it was supposed to go recurrent, too many songs are in such rapid freefall ("Make Me Want To" and "Dive Bar" the first time and "We Back", "I Wish Grandpas Never Died" and "Homecoming Queen" the second time) allowing "The Bones" to eek out a bullet both times.

Per kworb this is actually ~the 11th most played song in the country. And still gaining overall audience.

I'm glad this is holding up very well, this has to be the first time that a female artist didn't fall out of the Top 10 immediately after peaking in a long time!
I do think this should finally go recurrent come April 19th though, especially with the fact that her team & label will start promoting To Hell & Back starting tomorrow.

It’s actually kinda funny that this has now escaped recurrent status twice on MB.

“The Bones” is a huge hit. It’s been the best-testing song on Mediabase callout for weeks now and is a cross-format song that multiple genre listeners know.
It’s top 5 on AC radio and top 25 on pop radio. If you’re a country programmer, keeping a song that’s still number one in testing in medium to high rotation makes sense since it’s now gaining popularity at other formats. A large chunk of listeners cross-listen these days, so they’re not just focused on one station. They hear “The Bones”, they’re more likely to keep it on that station. It’s not luck, it’s strategic. I’m sure Sony Nashville has witnessed this and might have tried to keep Maren charting this week.

^^^^^^Spot-on analysis as always---nicely done anyway you slice it; THAT's why you're our fearless moderator!!!!!!!
This wonderful song will go recurrent a week from Sunday at country radio after 7+ months on the Mediabase Top 50 chart, but the are plenty of Hot AC, AC, and top 40 stations out there which will continue to provide steady airplay for months to come.

If this song gets its bullet back on Sunday or gains points for Monday's chart than it will take another 3 weeks. This song is not wanting to leave and that is evident today as it is trying to gain its bullet back and some of its spins back too. Also audience is trying to creep back up. So if this regains both either its bullet or points for Mediabase then the new date to go recurrent would be May 10th.

As much as I love when songs that have been on the chart forever go recurrent, I do not mind one single bit watching this song bounce around. It is such a hit and, to me, really doesn't get old. As long as it doesn't too badly disturb "To Hell & Back"'s chart run, I'm cool with it.

I'm here for the song experiencing this kind of longevity and think it would be awesome if she could manage to sneak at least a week inside the Hot 100 top-10!

The bullet don’t fall if “The Bones” are good.

I love that this is getting the longevity that country radio hates to give female artists, but at this point it might be hurting “To Hell & Back”. I hope they push for a bullet one more time (for next Sunday), then just let go of “The Bones”.

Columbia Nashville is not promoting this lol. That team is working "To Hell & Back."
It's just doing so well with overall passion in testing that programmers are refusing to let go of it from their logs. Like I mentioned before, it's cross-format airplay combined with its massive testing is making it hard to programmers to take the song out of medium-to-heavy rotation. I've never seen anything like this before, to this extent at least, but Sony is not promoting this for the sake of keeping the song at #11 or #10 on Mediabase. Stations are doing this on their own.

This single really begs the question, “What’s a burnout rate?”
ETA: I really used to think that Maren’s signature song was “My Church,” given its critical success and the accolades it received despite a modest peak at radio. “The Bones” may be the commercial success that prompts legacy recognition.

Yeah up until "The Bones" I was willing to say that despite the lower radio peak "My Church" was her biggest overall impacting hit (I have no doubt if it went #1 on country radio it would have probably peaked Top 40 to Top 30 on the Hot 100). But "The Bones" is probably gonna go down as her biggest hit of all time, and I will not be shocked if it does very well in the year end charts across the board.

I wonder now, chart will be out later this evening, did this gain points for this week's chart for Mediabase as it was without a bullet for this chart but if it gained points then it will be another 3 weeks on the chart?

I agree that "The Bones" is her signature song in Country. But let's remember... "The Middle" was arguably the biggest song all-genre of 2018. For most casual listeners, that is undeniably her signature song. Sure, she was "featured", but...it's totally her song.
I would love to see her have another song that reaches THAT level. This is certainly an enormous step up.

That would be "Girl" that ended a year and half long drought at #1 for females. Because "I Could Use A Love Song" hit #1 in January of 2018 and not even 4 months beforehand Carly Pearce hit #1 with "Every Little Thing".
