I'm happy with this result, and i'm even happier knowing that for one gleaming moment, I had put Even Flow in the victory slot

rowellfarm490. Great job with the hosting. The Extras might have been the highlight for me this time around. Now for some final comments on the crown songs. 10. Wherever I May Roam - Metallica This was my favorite of the Metallica songs here. I like that it goes harder than the other ballads. Still not as Fierce as 80's Metallica, but than again they never were again. 9. Hunger Strike - Temple of the Dog Truthfully I didn't like this one. It's the opposite Of how I like my Rock ballads to sound. This wasn't an Alternative Rock ballad you say? well, You could of fooled me. 8. Alive - Pearl Jam Hey! #71 is where I started ranking songs I actually liked. I just enjoyed 70 songs more than this one. See I gave it a thumbs up. 7. Jeremy - Pearl Jam Dammit this is the strongest Eddie has ever sounded. For me their shining moment. Really great story telling in the lyrics too. 6. Remedy - The Black CrowesStill sounds as cool as when I heard 10 minutes ago. 5. The Unforgiven - Metallica I like it. Strong vocal performance and all. I feel I might be one of the highest rankers for "Enter Sandman"? 4. Smells Like Teen Spirit - Nirvana Oh well. THis is as much help as you will ever get from me for Nirvana. I mean the song is a joke. Mulato,Albino, Mosquito, Burrito? I don't recall, but It rocks the Alternative Rock way. Now it's time for me to reveal where Kurt was inspired by this ear gasm riff. Just speed up The J.Geils Band "Love Stinks" and presto Nirvana party Rock. 3. Come as You Are - Nirvana Semi decent bass line but with Cobain vocals. There wasn't much I could do with it. Am I the only one here who couldn't stand Kurt Cobain's vocal tones? Also what was this song about. I used to think it was about just showing up in the most dirty raggedy way you could, but then he says he doesn't have a gun. When I really think he did. "Come dosed in mudd, Soaked in Bleach" Did he want a burried person to come back? Was it about Necrophilia? Am I reading too much into the lyrics? 2. Even Flow - Pearl JamI don't hate this song. I actually consider it to be one of the stronger Pearl Jam jams. I like it way more than "Alive", but as you can see there was 61 songs I prefer more over this, and they are the types of songs you would think would too, so as Kurt would say "No Apologies". Besides I put this at #61 most of you F U C K ed over my #1 song 10 times worse. This is a good song, but comes nowhere near the greatness of "Under The Bridge"1. Under the Bridge - Red Hot Chili PeppersF U C K yeah RHCP's. THis song really deserves it too. Cruised on over to Poptart and everything. The actual truth is you can thank MTV TRL top 10 for me growing more and more into this song. It would be placed smack in between Def Leppard, Poison, Warrant etc..like a Youtube add and slowly but surely started to sound extra grand to my ears.

That's it for Active 1992! Thank you to everyone who participated and sent in a ranking. I know that for many of us this was far from the most exciting list of songs to rank, but hey we made it through, and that's an accomplishment in itself right? I would've preferred a different winner, but with every poster having "Under the Bridge" in their top 25 I suppose it kinda deserved to win, even if it is an underwhelming result. We're just about through the 90s Active rankdowns now. Next up for Active hosting duty, it's your Alt 1991 co-host singingrulebritannia !

I totally murdered Az Paynter in that farthest from RD closeness this time around. I think I might juts have it in the bag for 1991 Active as well. Just ask Warrant.

{OH, SO THERE'S ANOTHER WORD WALL}#10: I'm sorry? This is definitely not the first song I expected to go. #9: Whoa. And speaking of songs I did not expect to see go... #8: Nah, fam, you guys screwed this up. #7: The wrong Pearl Jam song is highest. (Not that I expected this to be the highest one, anyway.) #6: And I'm officially out of songs to root for. (Having said that, it's really cool that it was in the top ten the entire rankdown.) #5: I could not decide where I wanted to rank this. At one point, this was in my top five. At another, it was out of my top ten. I settled on somewhere in the middle. #4: Okay, now I REALLY don't care about the winner. Great job, Jug. (But also, wait, DOC RANKED THE SONG THAT LED TO THE DEATH OF HAIR METAL AS A POPULAR GENRE TOP 20?!?!) #3: We were doing so well with the right songs being on top for multiple songs artists up until the top ten. #2: Time for me to say something that might surprise some: This is my least favorite song on Ten...or at least bottom three. I ranked it top ten, so I obviously really like it (and, really, it's Ten...come on), but it's the only Ten single that I have never really connected with on a personal level. #1: I don't know why this wasn't more of a lock to win in the eyes of others. The people who could have theoretically tanked it did not send in a ranking, and the only real threats to take it down were guaranteed to have at least one poster drag them away. It is wild, though, that it won despite not having a single top three ranking. I cannot say that I was expecting that. Sorry that I wasn't really around much for this rankdown, rowellfarm490, but you did great, as always. We might as well call you King Active.

30. Friday I'm In Love (5): :( Second top 10 loss. It was my #1 in Alt, but I preferred rockier songs in this RD. Still, a classic that should've been higher 29. Road To Nowhere (33): Quite a strong offering from Ozzy. Although I wasn't a big fan of Ozzy's music, this year he brought it with interesting, powerful and melodic songs like this one. 28. Thorn in my Pride (18): At the beginning I thought Remedy was gonna be my favorite Black Crowes in this RD, but TimP caught me by surprise as my favorite one -and my favorite discovery in this RD. 27. Drive (89): Another case of "I love this artist, but this song sucks" lol. Too monotonous and not going anywhere, especially for this long of a song. 26. No Son of Mine (15): It reached the top of my personal chart and became my favorite Genesis song of the 90s, and in my top 5 Genesis songs ever. Strong, hard-hiting music, including the intro, with pretty good complementing vocals and of course strong lyrics. 25. Sting Me (46): This was my least favorite BC song in this RD. I appreciate its classic rock qualities but it's just not fully my cup of tea. 24. Mama I'm Coming Home (25): My favorite Ozzy song in this RD and probably ever. Great melody and lyrics. Maybe melody could be a bit better, but a solid song anyway. 23. Not Enough Time (39): Not sure why this is ranking so much better in Active than Alt... not a bad song, but far from their best, as it's just far too simple --the best part for me is the chorus where some background vocals jump... 22. Always the Last to Know (42): I ranked it ~20 spots higher than in Alt, as I had slightly under-ranked it there. A nice, melodic song, despite its simplicity. 21. Lithium (24): A strong Nirvana offering, and the needed first one to leave, and in the 20s :) 20. Summer Song (60): A strong first-listen instrumental, but it didn't grab me enough to make it to my top 50. 19. Right Now (21): A strong Van Halen offering, maybe my last favorite from them, with typical VH sound and good melody and vocals. 18. Nothing Else Matters (4): My favorite Metallica song ever. An epic ballad with strong music, melody, vocals, and production. It all works perfectly IMO. I'm surprised this is the first Metallica song leaving, as I think this has much stronger qualities than any of the remaining songs (like WTF?!)) 17. November Rain (1): This reached not only the top of my weekly personal chart but also the top 5 of my yearend chart. An epic, dynamic opus with amazing melody, vocals, music, production, lyrics. Both the single edit and the album version are great. I'm very surprised and disappointed that this didn't make the top 10 of this RD :( 16. King's Highway (54): I like the very Jeff Lynne-like beat and production, but the melody was a bit disappointing especially for that strong music.

15. Breaking the Girl (22): I didn't care much for it back in the day, but I've grown to like it with time. I'm a bigger fan of the Californication era, but this is a bop. 14. Ghost of a Chance (64): This was my lowest ranked Rush song. I felt the melody was a bit weak. 13. Digging in the Dirt (17): I improved my ranking of DitD over the Alt RD, as I felt this had more of a rock edge to it (and this RD had a bit weaker songs in the 15-30 range). 12. Girlfriend (59): I put it in a similar position than in the Alt RD. I didn't consider it as strong of a rock song to put in my top half. 11. Bravado (2): This was one of my favorite songs of 1992, and it's remained one of my favorite rock songs of the 1990s. This song, Ballerina Out of Control, and a handful others have been key songs at several moments in life, especially when moving out from different places, and when doing important trips. It's a pity that my top 2 were close to making it to the top 10 but didn't 10. Wherever I May Roam (97): I'm sorry, but this song didn't do anything for me, at all. There is not enough melody here, and the hard rock sound is less Enter Sandman (a favorite of mine) and more 80s stuff that I never cared for. 9. Hunger Strike (11): Another song that I ranked better here than in the Alt RD. Good to see it in the top 10. 8. Alive (10): Strong rocker, very close to Jeremey to me. 7. Jeremy (9): Great! One of my favorite PJ songs ever, in terms of production, vocals and lyrics. 6. Remedy (29): As I said, I liked Thorn better and wished that had made the top 10, but well I'm glad they did make it to the top 10 anyway. 5. The Unforgiven (31): This is a good enough song, although I like version 2 better, and of course I wish NRM had been top 5 instead... 4. Smells like Teen Spirit (3): A personal chart-topper and one of my favorite rock songs ever, and definitely my favorite Nirvana song. Glad to contribute to its final position! 3. Come As You Are (8): My second favorite Nirvana song. Good to see it this high. Also glad to contribute to its final position! 2. Even Flow (28): My lowest favorite PJ song in this RD by far, as the melody wasn't as strong as the others for me, and even the vocals felt a bit harsher to me. Surprised this was their best ranked song in this RD... 1. Under the Bridge (6): YAS!!! Definitely a well deserved winner! A personal chart-topper and one of my favorite RHCP songs, with great guitars, bass, drums, and lead and background vocals. Plus that change from soft, tender first part and more effervescent last minute. Thanks rowellfarm490 for another fun RD!!!

All the rankdown debuts have at least one bottom-50 entry except The Men. Note: despite Billboard not tagging "The Destroyers" for the Thorogood track, I counted that song as part of the band's entry (rather than solo) as several other sources list the song with the Destroyers, including Spotify and iTunes.
