Has the Hot 100 reign of "Old Town Road" come to an end? Going into the weekend, inside sources are suggesting the battle for #1 will be down to the wire between the Lil Nas X smash and Billie Eilish’s "bad guy." A late week push by Interscope for Eilish combined with what’s thought to be a shifting focus by Columbia to Lil Nas’ follow-up, Panini, could provide just the opening for Eilish to score her first #1.

Hopefully... but other than the vertical thingy they're not really working it that much... it's not looking good for Billie.
Would love to be proven wrong! "bad guy" is going down as one of the most memorable songs of the year regardless, but I'd love to see it at #1.

I personally feel the vertical video will not be enough to surpass Old Town Road (too little too late). I think Old Town Road will get one more week at #1 before Senorita (and maybe Truth Hurts) surpasses it. Even if Bad Guy surpasses Old Town Road in the near future, it is dropping way too much to be an actual contender for #1 in the following weeks. In short, this week is Billie's last chance to get a #1 hit with Bad Guy, and it's not looking too good for her (in my opinion).

Didn't "Starboy" almost break the record for most weeks at number two until it hit number one. Pretty sure it had about 8 weeks at number two.

I'm torn with what I want, 20 weeks at #1 is a nice looking number of weeks to end the record run of OTR but I want Bad Guy to finally hit #1

2008 was my last favorite year of music. 2009 came and ushered in Drake and moody/mumble rap and my love for current/contemporary music slowly but surely died.

I miss the Pussycat Dolls. They delivered bop after bop. If only Nicole kept her ego in check. Instead we got a bunch of disappointing material from her.
I started following charts around 2007, but 2008 and 2009 were great years. Look at "Hot N Cold" starting it's run too; it would eventually outsell "I Kissed a Girl" and if I recall correctly even have more longevity in spite of it never reaching #1.
"Disturbia" is still top three in Rih's discography. "Take a Bow" I loved at the time but it hasn't aged as well.

He didn't even usher in singing/rapping. He just revolutionized it and made it even more popular for rappers to be emotive in their lyrics, which ended up being a great thing for rap music, since before then, most successful rappers had to either rap about street life or rap like they didn't have any emotions. Contemporary music never went anywhere. There are still several musicians making "authentic" *plug in whatever genre you want*.

I didn't say Drake ushered in anything I said 2009 ushered in Drake AND moody/mumble rap. Those are 3 different things. I know one thing, if what Drake and 'nem do is "emotive" they can definitely keep it. Everything they put out is dark and depressing as hell. I also didn't say contemporary music went anywhere. I said, my love for it did. Big difference.

It has to end at 19 weeks.
I’m definitely a fan of Billie Eilish. She’s a good artist and her debut has been a worthy contender for Album of the Year. Talk about a ridiculously long hold for “Bad Guy”.
Reminds of me of this thread here featuring a list of #2’s, an alternative timeline of “what if”. You know good and well Foreigner’s “Waiting...” was a much more massive hit than their only #1...

It’s a constant staple on Urban Adult-Contemporary Radio which is even more impressive considering Rihanna •barely• crossed over to that format her entire career. She has two top tens there I believe - “Take a Bow” and “Love on the Brain”. Moreover, “Take a Bow” garners far more weekly/monthly streams than “Disturbia”, the latter of which mostly sees a boost in October during the Halloween period. (This is also good, of course). I honestly (personally) haven’t heard “Disturbia” anywhere for years, especially when compared to “Don’t Stop The Music” which is, BY FAR, her most dominant ‘Dance’ hit from her 00’s era and overall in terms of recurrent Global streams/airplay following “We Found Love”. 🙏🏿

I’m just hoping for something new tbh, even Ransom at this point I hope OTR stays #1 this week so that the record is an even number, but after that I hope Señorita, Truth Hurts, or bad guy takes over, which seems to be increasingly likely.

I think it’s just that I’ve heard “I Want To Know What Love Is” so much that I’ve come to prefer “Waiting For A Girl Like You”.
Both are good though..
