But what are they playing them in? I haven't been able to find a proper cassette player in ages, same with a proper electronics store. I still have my cassette albums and cassingles.

they are also selling a lot of contemporary artists' new releases on cassette too! like Billie and Lana! Madonna issued Madame X on cassette in some parts of the world and Kylie did the same for her new hits collection. I see vinyl editions of a lot of albums regularly at Best Buy and Target as well as turntables. It feels so strange seeing turntables and record players so widely available now. I like it.

Weird nostalgia/resurgence. Cassettes sucked.

The pain when you had two favorite songs and one was way on the other side of the tape. π©

Le sigh, cassettes. Not as bad of sound quality as I remember, but still not the best.
I have thought about getting my favorite albums on vinyl though in case society collapses and the Internet along with it.

Weird nostalgia/resurgence. Cassettes sucked. Lord, everything about the cassette was inferior, even the tiny album cover inserts with microscopic liner notes and chintzy cases. This can't be anything but a pure nostalgic kick for the late '80s/early '90s babies who came into the world when cassettes were the main physical form of music. They wouldn't have an emotional connection to vinyl and the plummet of CD sales isn't far back enough to be waxing poetic over them yet. The struggle of using blank cassette tapes to record from radio π 90s style! When a dj comes in and talks all over the last minute of your favorite song but you have to deal with it because it's the only time you were ever able to catch the whole song :|

Haven't gotten into this "resurgence" as of yet. Vinyl makes more sense to me as a physical-music player. I do have some old cassettes, though, that I recorded stuff on, that I may pop in at some point.
VHS, though, is something I may return to for old tapes and such. We've just come into one of those VCR/DVD combos that someone didn't want, so I'll have the opportunity. I have one of those rewinders/fast-forward machines to pop a tape into so it doesn't wear out the VCR as much.

The struggle of using blank cassette tapes to record from radio π 90s style! Running home from the bus stop just to catch the premiere of "If Your Girl Only Knew" and missing it. That was the hardest song to try and catch on the radio.

I didn't think cassettes were that bad in sound quality, just a little bit time consuming. All that rewinding, pausing, or fast forwarding just to get to that one song that you really like the most. lol However, they were much cheaper to buy than CDs back in the day. I'll give them that.

Lucy you doing too much we now feel triggered and old when you referenced your dad.
Cassette tapes were my spotify. Track 1 was All My Life KC and Jojo and ended with a Missy Elliot. It was classic after classic inbetween!

I couldn't tell you where any cassette mixtape I had is now but it is a different feeling, for sure, same for mix CDs. There is just something inexplicably delightful about occasionally coming across an old burned CD, not recalling what you (or someone else) put on it, and having to play it to find out. You can't duplicate that kind of 're'discovery with a playlist.

I started out with cassette tapes but mostly because they were cheaper to buy than cds. I got my first CD in 1994 and slowly made the transition over to buying only CDs. The last cassette I got was Wide Open Spaces by Dixie Chicks. Many of the albums I had on tape I eventually bought again on CD, like the aforementioned Dixie Chicks album, Come On Over by Shania, a couple Celine Dion albums (though never Falling Into You for some reason), and Janet by Janet. In recent years I got a couple of those again on vinyl. There are three albums I own on cassette, CD and vinyl: Janet, the colour of my love by Celine, and once again: wide open spaces.
I doubt Iβll jump on the cassette bandwagon the way I did with vinyl, but Iβm excited for the CD wagon to roll back around in a decade or so (I hope).

Columbia House completely wiped out whatever tapes I had when they offered like 8 CDs for $1 every month. Lol

it's pretty much just "goods". even vinyl is consumed as that by many people.

Other than nostalgia I don't see what's great about cassettes. At least with vinyl you can claim it's for audio quality.
All tape media, including VHS and the like are terrible IMO.
