Wow, has this really not charted yet? I'm shocked that this has been out a month and hasn't even snuck on at the bottom. That's not a good sign. Sad. This sounded like such a hit. I know they've always had a rocky relationship with radio, but it seems strange that they can't even seem to get the occasional hit now. :/

It really saddens me that radio gave them "Better Man" and then seems to have said goodbye. I really hope BM is not their last true hit. Over Drinking really deserved a chance.
On another note: tickets are so freakin' affordable for the Indianapolis show in February 2020 that I might just try racking up some money to try to go. I mean, for just 1 ticket, you could have a near-front row center seat for only $84 after tax (of course that depends by state I believe.) I've been wanting to see them live for years.

Daughters honestly should've been the single instead of this.

Daughters honestly should've been the single instead of this. They alluded in an interview that radio as a collective whole basically told them/the label "no" in regards to that song. It might've turned into a situation like "Girl Crush" where radio eventually had to cave in and couldn't ignore the song if it blew up big enough on its own from sales/streaming, but it would've surely been an uphill climb. And now we see "Over Drinking" is having a slow start and it sounds like a quintessential LBT hit. I think "The Daughters" was worth trying, but we as common folk don't know everything that happens behind the scenes and apparently there was enough push back with the song that the label shied away from even attempting a real radio push for it, which (sadly) says a lot. :/

Honestly wouldn't be shocked if Little Big Town is done scoring hits since it seems like country radio is really starting to get its new set of "it" groups (Old Dominion, Midland, potentially Runaway June).
I also feel like all of the songs Little Big Town released post "Better Man" did not sound radio friendly at all imo. "Happy People" was such a huge flop and I never got why that was a single as that seemed destined to fail from the first time I heard it. From there the rest of the singles released have just been underwhelming.
With country radio breaking in new groups in recent years, like Old Dominion, Midland, and Runaway June along with in my view questionable single choices from Little Big Town, I am not shocked to see "Over Drinking" struggle so much out of the gate.

Has anyone in country music had a more 'unique' chart history (in terms of singles) than LBT??
Steve Holy is the only one I can think of, but LBT's charted singles have been even more up & down than his.

Not sure if this is the right place to put this, so just correct me if I'm wrong, but they've released a new song called Sugar Coat:
I found this in a Youtube ad but it's absolutely phenomenal! Love the song and video so much, easily one of my favourite by LBT~

Steve Holy is the only one I can think of, but LBT's charted singles have been even more up & down than his. I always consider Sara Evans to be right there with them in terms of up & down chart relationship. There was always seemingly very little rhyme or reason to which songs were hits and which ones were flops. As "big" as she was, she never had 3 top 10 hits in a row. There was almost always some kind of flop or underperformance hidden in between every couple of hits.

"Sugar Coat" is great! They're 3 for 3 with this Nightfall era so far in my eyes. I love the music video as well, especially the ending. I didn't see that part coming but when I saw her wearing the necklace, I was like "wow, what a statement."
Still gutted that radio is paying them absolute dust now, but I'm excited for the new album.

I wonder if "Over Drinking" can finally make the Country Airplay chart since I'm seeing it at the top of the New & Active section and the difference in audience between the #60 song (Thompson Square's "Masterpiece") is pretty minimal. I'm really sad to see LBT just completely ignored this era; they've always been able to somehow bounce back from underperforming singles but maybe radio just finally decided to let them go.
"Sugar Coat" is another good one - I'm excited to hear the entirety of Nightfall whenever it comes out.

"Sugar Coat" has me so many levels of shook... first of all, the melody is gorgeous and absolutely to die for. The vocals, harmonies, and production are stunning and euphoric. The lyrics are breathtaking and the music video stops you dead in your tracks. Color me officially excited for Nightfall. I have such high hopes for this album... based on the two songs we've heard so far, it sounds like LBT is putting focus back on their harmonies and their roots. Excited to hear this record in full.

This finally debuts at #60 on tonight’s Billboard Country Airplay chart. Not sure how much further it will get, but it’s a start.

Honestly the label might wanna abandon this during the holidays and go all in on "Sugar Coat" as that seems a bit more radio friendly and still has some buzz to it. Although I wouldn't be shocked if country radio by and large has just moved on from Little Big Town.

This is such a good song. Melody is gorgeous and I like instrumentation and production a lot. It quickly became one of my favourite LBT songs and I'm a little sad that radio doesn't give it a chance. In addition to its poor chart performance, it also has few views on YouTube (a little over 600 thousand in more than a month, they have 628 thousand subscribers on their youtube chanel), even though video is well done with a known actress in leading role.
Sugar Coat is another great song (and video) and I'm looking forward to the new album.

The song and video for Sugar Coat still gets me every time I listen to it. It's very saddening and frustrating that this might not ever get the chance to be a true hit. All good things must come to an end I guess...:(
I find it hilarious in some way that Better Man was written by Taylor Swift and was their last hit.

Still totally perplexed that country radio didn't take to this at all, but at this point I almost wonder if it might be a better option to just dump this one completely (at the rate it's going a peak in the 40s is probably the best they can hope for anyway) and try sending out "Sugar Coat." That one might not wind up doing much either, but I think it would probably catch more attention than continuing to sink money into "Over Drinking."

I agree with indulge, it's time to cut their losses and move on to "Sugar Coat." It likely won't do too much at all either at this point, but something's better than nothing. I wish country radio would give them one last hurrah at least, if they insist on never playing them again. (I say never playing them again because at my radio station at least, I never hear them anymore. No random Girl Crush spin, no Better Man, no Day Drinking, not even a trip to the Boondocks. Nothing--and those were all big hits.)

I mean I feel like the combination of "Happy People" completely destroying the momentum of their last album era, "Summer Fever" being released way too late for a summer single in 2018 and then the long gap in between that single and this one just pretty much ruined all of their momentum with country radio.
At this point they should probably move on to another single aka "Sugar Coat", but honestly in my gut I feel like they are more than likely done getting hits on country radio unless it is a featured artist ("Don't Threaten Me With A Good Time").

I'm all for them getting a hit again but if it has to be that Thomas Rhett song, then I'd rather they just stay done, lol. I think if they sent out "Sugar Coat" to radio, I could see it getting enough buzz for them to at least get off the ground a little faster than "Over Drinking" has. OD sounded like a typical smash hit for them, but interest from the general public doesn't seem to be there for it. I think "Sugar Coat" would at least build some hype for them, especially if they performed it live on a TV show or two, similar to what we saw with "The Daughters" despite never even being pushed to radio.

"Nightfall" is great! The vocal arrangement is beautiful, great use of harmony, and I love the production and the beat. I'm so happy that I've loved everything from the upcoming album so far lol.
