I had such high hopes for this album, Blinding Lights and the song he performed on SNL are the only ones that I'll come back to. I am extremely disappointed, just so y'all know this sounds sonically like Heartless for most of the album... This is a f*cking lie lmao

"In Your Eyes" is definitely going to be the song that Abel's label mentioned as being the album's next big single.

His weakest album to date, even Scared was much more interesting in live, I find very difficult to return to any of those songs, Max Martin seems to be taking very easy this time as well.

I really like the album. I think the second half is better than the first half, but that's not to say the first half is bad. There's something for everyone on this album but it works very well together.

For some reason, all the Targets are saying sold out. I wonder if they never received it or if it will change when they are open for business?

I may go there tomorrow to pickup a copy of the album if they have it. Not sure if they will put it out or not especially with everything going on right now.

So many standouts, Faith is a gem, Too Late needs to be send to urban radio. Scared To Live was better live imo, I missed OPN‘s extra additions to the 2nd verse. Overall very strong and cohesive, one of my favourite synth work on any album already. Oh and prepare for our King, In Your Eyes, to rule this summer.

Singles must go like this: 3rd- “In your eyes” to pop // “too late” for urban & rhythmic 4th- “Hardest to love” to all formats 5th-“Save your tears” to pop // “Faith” for urban & rhythmic 6th- “Scared to live” to all formats

That said, this album is fantastic. Melodies are beyond excellent, it’s so raw, you can feel all the emotions. Shoutout to all the producers for making the sickest beats and to Abel for letting us drown in his mind and heart.

This album was a whole serve I loved almost every song on the album Heartless grew on me but I'm still not a fan of it per say . In Your Eyes has to be the next single after blinding lights.I disagree with whoever said it's his weakest album that is whole lie.

Really love the album. Doesn't beat Madness or Starboy for me at the moment. But still really really good. Glad he's back!
My ranking on first listen: 1. In Your Eyes 2. After Hours 3. Heartless 4. Too Late 5. Scared To Live 6. Blinding Lights 7. Save Your Tears 8. Faith 9. Alone Again 10. Snowchild 11. Repeat After Me 12. Until I Bleed Out 13. Hardest To Love 14. Escape from LA
Song #1 to #9 I love. But #10 to #14 are also good. No bad songs.

Honestly disappointed in it. A lot of it just blends together and sounds samey. The first half of the album just sounds like watered down versions of the title track.
Hardest to Love Heartless Blinding Lights In Your Eyes After Hours Until I Bleed Out
Meh to the rest.

This is kind of hitting me on the second listen, hmmmmm maybe it was just because I was really drunk the first time I listened to it.

The Target exclusive is either sold out or not sold in stores, leaving a clean version and the standard edition, both not sold in Target stores and only available for delivery. Ugh. I was afraid this would happen.

I guess he has lost his urban audience for good, cannot see any of these songs being a big urban hit.

Good. He doesn’t need urban hits when you have monsters like Blinding Lights + the album has enough potential singles to make this the best selling album of his career. If urban radio doesn’t want to play him , shame on them.

Meanwhile, the CD I ordered from Amazon, which was $11.99 still said it was pending delivery. I then went on today and saw that the CD is $12.50, includes immediate download and the CD will arrive Sunday. Plus, I used my Amazon points and got it for free! We'll see if I can hold off til Sunday to listen though LOL.

FIRST LISTEN REVIEW
1. Alone Again (6/10) Decent opener. The build reminds me of "Hollywood's Bleeding" (the song). I like the switchup that comes after the second minute. Not a song I'd revisit tbh.
2. Too Late (6.5/10) The beginning reminded me of the opener. The production here is good as well but very Usher circa 2012. Scratch that, very Justin Bieber circa 2015.
3. Hardest To Love (8/10) Yesss nostalgia! I don't get why they gave this song a modern electro beat instead of something like soft rock. Really really like the melodies here.
4. Scared To Live (9/10) I love how this is obviously connected with the previous track (not just sonically but thematically). I loved this song from Abel's SNL performance and it sounds just as good on the album. The melody reminded me of Eric Clapton's "Tears In Heaven" so bonus point for that. Highlight of the album so far. Obsessed with the "we fall apart, right from the start" bit.
5. Snowchild (8.5/10) I really like this one. Very modern yet soft R&B. Sounds like it doesn't take off which means it'll likely end up as one of my favorites.
6. Escape From LA (7/10) I just know Abel's albums will always deliver top notch production. This song doesn't add anything new to his catalog as it could really fit on any of his projects so far but seeing that "Heartless" is coming, I guess it serves as the much needed bridge from the softer side of the album to the louder beats.
7. Heartless (7/10) Definitely a grower. But hey, it is a #1 grower (which is difficult to get, not everybody has that). The album needs a club banger so I'm not mad.
8. Faith (7/10) I'm weak for that electronic bass. This song sounds too much like "Heartless" and the beat can't change that. Wait, what is this outro? So ethereal. One of my favorite moments on the album. We want more of that.
9. Blinding Lights (10/10) Yay it's smash hit time. I love the transition from "Faith" to this. But back to the song. The production just gets better with every listen. An God tier pop record.
10. In Your Eyes (8/10) Wait, that's the "Blinding Lights" ripoff everyone's screaming about? Aside from the '80s references, they're two separate tracks. They do not even sound alike. Can't really find the hook but it's a cute pop song. Reminds me a lot of the pop side on Starboy. Ooh is that sax? Nice instrumental break. // I can totally see why they're going with this (even though it's not necessarily my favorite).
11. Save Your Tears (9/10) F**k me, the backing track is insane. 2020s nu-disco needs a leader. I think Abel's the one.
12. Repeat After Me (Interlude) (6.5/10) Why lie? I enjoyed this interlude.
13. After Hours (9.5/10) I don't have anything to say about this song that hasn't been said already. So good.
14. Until I Bleed Out (6/10) At this point I feel like I've heard this kind of song multiple times in the album. What an interlude-ish way to close the album.
Rating: 77.1/100 Notes: The album is awesome. I think it'd be even better without like three or four of the songs. I'm surprised to see that Illangelo has lost his Midas touch. His production skills are grade A but his ideas are getting stale and samey. Max Martin on the other hand... Just when we thought his career is coming to an end, he pulls us back in. Great work on the album. Of course, with help from Oscar Holter who's proven to be the new go to producer.
