If this was the 1980s, Why We Drink would have hit number 1 in 13 weeks. But now, when a record label kept pushing a song on the radio like they did with After A Few which took more than a year to hit? Then, you got to wonder if there is a payola going on. I Hope by Gabby Barrett and After A Few by Travis Denning is not the worth the risk to push new artists to get the number 1 song. Back in the 80s, those two songs would have flop. Right now, we would be talking about Justin with a 4th or 5th hit song from his album, not just his second. He needs to release 3 more singles from this album instead of new material. It would make his great album look like a flopper.

I can kind of see where you are coming from with "After A Few" but with "I Hope" I don't see how you can suggest that would have been a flop back then or hinting that it is a waste of a song to promote when it is in the Top 10 in the iTunes Country, had a very slow fall on the chart, has over 55 million views on YouTube, Top 20 on the Hot 100 in terms of peak, etc. Like "I Hope" more than deserved its spot at #1 even more than "Why We Drink" which while it has been a pretty solid hit for Justin Moore, Gabby Barrett has by far the bigger hit. I also really don't get the bolded statement since it makes since for labels to push newer artists harder on radio than established acts since the newer artists don't have as much exposure and having an artist that has a #1 is inherently a good thing.

"I Hope" is more like a rock song from the 1980s like Pat Benetar, Stevie Nicks or Heart would sing. I would hit number 1 on the pop charts, but radio stations in country banned these types of songs. They banned Kenny Rogers songs because they were to them AC/pop song. That is why I mentioned that song.

I know of no format that would have ever banned a Kenny Rogers song at any time during the 60s, 70s, or 80s so to suggest otherwise is absurd. Those rock acts that you mentioned still get plenty of airplay on classic hits, AC and classic rock stations 35+ years after their various hits hit the charts, and those two formats have gone back and forth insofar as being the most-listened format of the summer is concerned for several years running as Nielsen has dutifully reported
You certainly have no way of knowing if any of Justin's singles would have been flops in previous decades.
Finally when you have numerous country stations spinning their 'power rotation' songs 40+ times per week at the same time that the format saw numerous stations boost spins on those 'powers' to 60-70+ times week starting in mid-2012 of 2012 as a three-part series in Country Aircheck which commenced in the Country Aircheck Weekly issue dated June 14, 2012 with more coverage in subsequent issues dated 5-29-12 and 6-11-12 detailed, the charts were bound to become much slower which remains the case today.
Consequently the soaring number of songs needing well over 30 weeks to reach #1 since then is not a surprise, much to the consternation of programmers as well as label execs.
'Why We Drink' is merely the latest such song to crawl up the charts in such a manner and there are plenty of singles currently on the charts which figure to do likewise.

In most cases, by the time a song reaches the top of the charts today, I have heard it so many times I am sick of it. And unless the artist is an A-lister it takes forever for the follow-up to start being played. I'm not sure I agree with you that Travis Denning and Gabby Barrett would have flopped in the 80's. The chart runs were so much faster then that I'm sure each would have moved up the charts much faster than what they did on today's chart.

Nothing will ever rival "Small Town USA" or "If Heaven Wasn’t So Far Away" imo but I’m glad he got another hit. He deserves it!

I am super glad this song made it all the way to the top for Justin. It is such a jam! Hitting #1 is a good enough reason as to “why we drink” 🍻
It seems like he is moving to brand new music which is fine by me. I do wish “Jesus and Jack Daniels” has been a single though, I love that song.

I've been jamming to this song since its release and glad it hit no.1. kinda worried at first due its struggling on 50-40.

happy for Justin. Having seen him in concert, I will tell you he connects with his audience and they know all the words to his songs.
Still wishing Kinda Don't Care had been bigger. Love that song.

As this just left airplay chart after 48 weeks, new single should be coming up soon, which will be #1 after 45 or so weeks. Hope it will be Good Times Don't!

Since he's been at least 3 singles from all the albums he's released, that's kinda surprising. I wanted another single from the album, as it was a pretty solid album, but new music is exciting anyway.

Since he's been at least 3 singles from all the albums he's released, that's kinda surprising. I wanted another single from the album, as it was a pretty solid album, but new music is exciting anyway. Both of the singles off this record took nearly a year to reach #1 and the label likely didn't want to spend money and effort into promoting a third single, when they can do the same with a lead single and tease new music. It's just the way the charts work now, with these extremely long chart runs. 10-15 years ago, I almost guarantee another single is released off this album. Corporate-run programming is on many stations these days and it means songs spend even longer in overnight rotation, which eats up weeks on the chart before a song ever reaches the top 30. Judging by the RadioTraks survey they sent out earlier this summer, the new songs off this next album should be great -- I liked or loved all the ones I heard.
