Two previously unreleased tracks were liberated from the vault today: an E-Flat version of 7 (on 7/7/23) and All a Share Together Now, a song he cut between 3121 and Planet Earth. They both sound like rough demos.

Ooof at those prices. I got D&P as a kid and, outside the singles, it was never a fave of mine. I love how his estate is releasing all this material though.

There's some stuff missing that I was really hoping would be there, but I'm not gonna complain too much when this is pretty hefty as is. Can't wait to get this and dive in.

Diamonds & Pearls isn't my favorite 90's Prince record but it's a solid album and the singles were excellent.
pre-release tracks are Insatiable (Early Mix) and Alice Through the Looking Glass.
The early mix of Insatiable is ok but the edited version that made the album is superior
Alice Through the Looking Glass is a BOP. Prince low key ATE and he emulated the new jack swing sound really well here. I'm pretty sure this one wasn't written for D&P it sounds more like a possible LoveSymbol outtake/demo or something he wrote for another artist.

If Wikipedia can be believed, about half of the Diamonds & Pearls album was released as a single. To that end, I was going to say I like some of the album tracks more than the singles, but I guess it turns out they were singles lmao. Anyway I think D&P is an underrated album in Prince's catalog and am happy about this expanded reissue for sure. "Get Off" has always been a jam to me, and "Money Don't Matter 2 Night" has always been a personal fave. "Thunder" has chords that I swear were recycled for Britney's debut album. After a few listens I wouldn't call "Alice Through the Looking Glass" essential, but it's certainly a solid bop. Apparently it was recorded in 1991 Sir Benji but who knows with what intention.

http://instagram.com/p/CwaeqOcPH0p The first digital single taken from the DIAMONDS AND PEARLS Super Deluxe Edition is "Alice Through The Looking Glass". Recorded on May 28, 1991 at Larrabee Sound Studios, Studio A, Los Angeles, California, Prince used synth drums, percussion, a Proteus bass, guitar, and a series of loops to create the song.

Cream - Take 2 is out now. Sounds like a rough demo; more sparse than the final track but interesting to hear where it progressed from.

Been immersed in this since it's release, it's a fantastic collection. First off, the package itself is gorgeous and the book is very informative, a lot of detail about how NPG was formed and track by track breakdowns, tons of great pics as well. The OG album sounds great, I have the original US pressing and this trumps it, way clearer. I know the album itself gets a mixed reaction from Prince-heads and I understand why, but I've always liked it barring a couple of tracks ("Jughead" and "Push" being the main offenders). I was nervous about the vault material, simply because Prince's output in the 90's could fly in any direction quality-wise, but there's some real gems in here. And some of the alternate takes are an improvement on the versions that saw release ("Insatiable," "Diamonds And Pearls," "Horny Pony," "Daddy Pop"). Vault discs I and III are the stronger discs IMO. We did not need Prince's version of "Martika's Kitchen," although it is good for a laugh.
All that aside, this package is worth it for the Blu-Ray alone. The Glam Slam 92 performance is some God-tier level shit, we will never see an artist/performer at that level again. The band and the dancers are tight af and even make eh material like "Push" and "Jughead" kill live. Rosie Gaines was a force of nature and going through this collection, it becomes obvious how indispensable she was for this era being as successful as it was (listen to the alternate version of "Cream" without her vocals for instance). She popped up here and there after this, but it's a shame she didn't stay on as a main member of the NPG for a couple more albums.
