Artist: Craig Morgan Single: "The Father, My Son, and The Holy Ghost" Label: Broken Bow Records/BMG Impact Date: October 7th, 2019
WOW. BBR has brought back Craig Morgan and will promote this song that rose to #1 on the iTunes all-genre chart last week; written for Craig's late son Jerry who passed away in 2016. Blake Shelton helped with (with others as well) rise to the top of digital sales. This is amazing!
I knew they would send it to radio at some point but had no clue BBR would be the ones working it. Craig was with BBR from 2002-2008. He is credited for helping build up that label's success at radio, and later Jason Aldean.

It’s a shame it took 4 superstars blowing up Twitter to get this incredible song heard. More of this, less of everything else please. What a song.
Also, respect for Blake Shelton went way way up after his tweets.

SOTY material and his performance on Opry is even better. Also there are three well-written songs on country radio now that deal with father-son relationship at different angles.

Also, respect for Blake Shelton went way way up after his tweets. Craig and Blake have been friends for a long time, as far back as when they were starting out as recording artists nearly 20 years ago. I also think it was pretty cool that Blake essentially donated his Twitter account for an entire week to get Craig's song heard everywhere.

Man I was shocked when I opened this thread and saw BBR was promoting this. I thought it was gonna be promoted by some crappy promotion company like In2une Nashville or something like that.

Given how quickly the deal came together I have to imagine it’s only for this single and not a full fledged signing. Probably could lead to him joining back if the song does well I’d imagine.

My guess is it’s a one-song deal but he could be kept on as a legacy act like Trace, we’ll see. He certainly won’t be promoted single after single with BBR.

This is neat. Looks like he might be performing this on Kelly Clarkson's show next week and Blake dropped by for it too. I say might because so far there haven't been musical guests on the show yet, but it looks like the set is different in this pic and he has his in-ears, so odds might be good. http://instagr.am/p/B3cj7LxHsQi

What a MOMENT on Kelly's show. This deserves to be a multi-week #1, and I wouldn't be surprised to see it receive some Song of the Year nominations next year; so far it's the best country song I've heard in a while.

Love it. This is no Bonfire.
A song sung from the heart. Don't hear these too much. Hope it does well.

This is real country music. Brings me back to the type of stuff I grew up with in the 2000’s.

Well that was an incredibly low budget and awkward music video. It's just 4 minutes of Craig Morgan making weird faces in the camera.

I don’t think Craig wanted a big budget video, as he said on Kelly’s show, he didn’t even want to release this officially at all. I’m underwhelmed with the video, too, but I totally understand why. Like the song, this is just himself pouring his heart and soul out. If it were me, I don’t know that I’d be comfortable making a music video for a song like this because it’s so personal and painful. It’s hard enough for him just to sing the song, I can only imagine that a full production video would have been straight up torture to make; even if just a slideshow of pictures and video clips. He never planned on a full release and this was never intended to receive single treatment at all, so all things considered I’m surprised he even made a video.

I get that, but like... he shouldn't have even bothered then if it's too tasking for him. He's performed it live on TV several times now so it shouldn't have been any more difficult to do more with the music video than having to sing it live in front of millions of people, but yeah, a lyric video tribute deal with some pictures/video clips would've actually been a good idea since Craig wouldn't have had to do anything himself. Honestly the video could've been fine as is if they just didn't zoom in so close on his face the entire time and he didn't make sure exaggerated and ridiculous expressions for every single line he sings. ETA: But at the end of it all, it's irrelevant and idc what he does. All I was doing was making a simple critique of his new music video because after watching it, I was left thinking it was hilariously awful.

It's no surprise that the video is low budget considering the fact that it was recorded before the song was being promoted by BBR.

All I was doing was making a simple critique of his new music video because after watching it, I was left thinking it was hilariously awful. I agree. I will say, though, any video would have required his involvement on some level, mainly because it’s an especially personal song about a topic that is perhaps more troubling and sensitive than any other; the loss of a child. Perhaps it came down to feeling opportunistic by making it more than just a video of himself? Many might feel like they’re exploiting their loss in doing something like that? Who knows? Again, keeping in mind that he never intended anyone to even hear this, I think they were going more or less for showing only his emotions (hence the funny faces). I mean, I cried when I first saw it because the funny faces mean something completely different to me; my day-to-day is filled with funny faces from holding back tears to feeling nauseous, I imagine I look pretty similar any given day at any given moment. I saw and felt something completely different upon my first watch, but I totally see why this also looks awkward and somewhat funny to others. Not posting this in disagreement, just more or less to share my take. ❤️

mocking it seems in bad taste. It's a phenomenal song but the music video is awful and he isn't free of criticism for it just because it's a deeply personal song. This is part of why I clarified my above post because I had a feeling someone would think it was inappropriate to dislike the video but I see nothing wrong with my original take on it after watching it: Well that was an incredibly low budget and awkward music video. It's just 4 minutes of Craig Morgan making weird faces in the camera. When I saw a music video had been posted, I was initially excited, so I was naturally pretty disappointed after actually seeing the finished product.

mocking it seems in bad taste. Extremely. I thought the simplicity of it works perfect. You can feel the weight of every lyric.
