Most have been waiting for this year since, arguably, 2016.

This is the one year that the vast majority of Rappers choose not to release solo projects and they’re still B*TCHING!

When Dance/Electro/Indie-Pop were the predominant commercial genres/styles between 2010-2015, I never heard any complaints.

2016-2019 thus far has been Urban’s renaissance (especially following 2001-2005) and I couldn’t be happier.

I hope Juice WRLD plans out his next album better. I think the guy has more potential for hits outside of Lucid Dreams, and he already has a massive cult fanbase as evident from Deathrace selling 165k first week. The single choices were simply not it.

Note: this doesn't include features. Drake stands at 26 billion streams according to this, but his total Spotify count is somewhere around 40 billion when all his features are added.

I only noted Drake because he's the only artist whose number of streams from features is high enough to be drastically different from the figures reported here.

The remix should count for him. Rihanna also has some features but her biggest features in the streaming era are Too Good with Drake and This Is What You Came For with Calvin Harris. Khalid also has some features that have garnered considerable streams. Ed Sheeran, Adele, Taylor Swift, Post Malone, Halsey, Billie Eilish and other artists listed don't have enough features with enough streams to largely differentiate from the Spotify stream count reported here.

I wish Chart Masters' tool could grab the streams for every single song by an artist including features. The lists would be way more accurate then.

None of us knows what the next few years will bring. In the early 90s glam metal and dance pop ruled, then Nirvana and Dr. Dre dropped out-of-nowhere hits and every act before them became yesterday's heroes. In the early 2000s teen pop and nu metal were the only thing you heard, until Ja Rule and 50 Cent sent them all scrambling to update their sounds. A few years later turbo pop was the unlikely successor to the crunk era. This year Taylor Swift and Ed Sheehan got blocked from number one by a country trap song featuring Billy Ray Cyrus. And the act to finally displace that song was a teenager who made weird goth-pop with her brother. Teenagers who have embraced Billie and Lil Nas X this year might not be so interested in listening to acts who have been everywhere for most of the last decade, using overly-familiar sounds. That's why you have these huge generational shifts in music. And to be clear, I'm not saying Drake or whoever is over because that would be a dumb thing to say (and Drake in particular I see being big and savvy enough to survive whatever comes next. And Maroon 5 for some reason ha ha). I'm just saying you never know what's going to happen, because I've seen these shocking shifts enough times now to know the inconceivable happens all the time in popular music.

Ariana has released way too many singles since 2018. 

What helps an artist like Drake/Bieber/Cardi comparatively to her when dropping so many singles during their eras, is a lot tend to be features where they take the passenger seat. Dropping all these back to back singles all as lead artist/main vocalist is too much.  

Radio & people are more likely to want to hear a 5th+ hit in a year from you if you're minimized at that point on the song. She also should've just had a 4th single for TUN, instead of moving to Monopoly/Boyfriend/Angel.

renfield75 you're right about the constant changes in the musical landscape. Those changes come whether artists/fans are ready for it or not. Some artists can evolve with the times and find ways to remain relevant and some can't.

Take streaming for instance. A bunch of artists who dominated in the digital sales era are all of a sudden dead in the water in the streaming era.

It'll get harder and harder for older acts to maintain commercial success, that's a tale as old as time.

If you're an artist who knows how to play the game and who knows how to evolve and adjust along with the changes, you'll be good. Luckily, the artists I stan all know how to do that.

Based on my quick scroll of the last few pages, are Drake/Uzi/the Snitch expected to chart high this week? :)

"Intro" and "Memories" currently seem like the only new track that will have any real impact.

Remember when Country had like 6 songs in the Top 40? Except for BRC feature, no Country acts last week and probably not for awhile. The next two closest with a bullet are at IDKAY at 47 and Living at 51, which likely is peaking midweek on Country Airplay.

I always had his album tracks at 28 billion since late July and his features at 9.5 billion since October last year, but maybe I went wrong somewhere. If we're gonna talk future trends, I think rock music has the chance to make a comeback with the right artist. Artists like Post Malone, Halsey, and Juice WRLD have been dropping tracks with a lot of rock elements and I think its a sign of that sound possibly coming back with some new, trendy genre

Here are some of the more groundbreaking rock albums this year, sure they are not the biggest, but they are at least widely recognized within the community.

Amo - Bring Me The Horizon, there isn’t really a style in this entire album, I mean it was great, but this is not going to be the next big thing. I mean for gods sake it has a feature that only beat boxes.

Strength in Numb333rs- Fever 333, honestly, I’m just surprised political music has not caught on with just how big of a role politics is playing in pop culture right now just in general, and those that cross through are typically very light. So this I’m pretty doubtful it’ll catch on, but with the election coming up, I wouldn’t be surprised if this style picked up some streaming, no way radio will touch it though, except maybe an edited version of Inglewood/3, which is the best song on the entire album.

Ok I’m Sick - Bad Flower, Just repeat with Amo, except it would’ve totally had a breakthrough single with the acoustic version of Ghost if it had appeared on a soundtrack, and honestly would’ve been a more impactful ballad.

Morbid Stuff - Pup, as I previously said in previous thread, even though this is more than likely the least main stream sound record on this list, I just feel like this is the general direction in which we are going, with the decline of what I can really only call ballad hype rock (honestly, Someone You Loved and Believer sound way more alike than I actually like to admit) the natural response to the hatred of shallow song writing in over hyped songs is amazing song writing in more low key rock songs. Granted I don’t believe this will be the band to actually breakthrough, but someone like them, like say The Front Bottoms or Modern Baseball. Of course the push the sub genre needs is probably artificial, but I just see this happening.

Some other artists that I think could potentially shape the next decade, but they didn’t release anything of note or at least not enough to warrant to lengthen this already gigantic post:

Dominic Fike / Post Malone, they both seem to be leaning into the same type of music where it is what Pup is doing but they make it significantly more palatable

Ghost, if rock actually picks up, this will be the band that people praise, but they can only get a song to chart for one week at the 80s at most.

Greta Van Fleet, I feel like if sales randomly gets weighed significantly more than maybe, but despite being probably the most commercially viable and radio friendly, I doubt that’ll matter to their chart runs in the future, as they already hit their audience and more than likely the majority that’ll buy their music.

Machine Gun Kelly, he is honestly not that bad of a emo rock singer, and of all the disposable rappers, if the whole Post Malone And Dominic Fike doing softer sad punk goes over well, I can see him lasting for a little bit in the transition before new artists swoop in, but only if it lands.

I think I talked about every artists that may have not peaked already in the rock community that could possibly cross over into the mainstream, and I’ve already spent way too much time on this post, so let’s just hope that retro rock doesn’t become a major thing in the charts
