Image plays a huge role if she went thin she would lose her secret card. Her allies are fellow average woman bodies, gays and women of color. People who feel image wise are left out of mainstream. It would feel to them she "sold out" not saying I agree but that's the game. She has no choice but to retain her fatness for the next decade. Its not just a image let's be real her size and her confidence and showing how you can be sexy is alot of her lyrics and explicitly tied to her actual music content. I'm only speaking to the greater population because her fans are her fans and dont care they have bought into her. Not only that but her name on IG is literally “Lizzo is Eating”— she has really engrained it into her image in all aspects. I actually think that if she ever decided to lose weight, she could own it and set it up for her fan base that she just wanted to lead a healthier lifestyle etc.

She wasnt eating when the Postmate driver stole her lunch.
I think she can but has to establish herself. Sudden changes too soon could make her brand murky. Like you said and others it's her brand.

I think Lizzo’s mainstream popularity will stick around for awhile. It’s too early to tell if she’ll have a multi-decade mainstream career like Rihanna or Beyonce but I can see her sticking around through a good portion of the 20s.
Lizzo has had many years to build up a loyal fan base and only recently broke through with pop/rap song which is on trend with mainstream music. Meghan smashed right out of the gate with her first single which was 50s doo wop inspired. Meghan’s entire first era was a novelty and it’s hard to build a loyal fan base with novelty music. So she changed her sound second era to be more mainstream and she didn’t do as well as her first era.
But hey I could be wrong. I thought Post Malone would be a novelty act after one era and I was completely wrong there.

She’s a glorified one hit wonder, just like Billie Elish.

They’re artists that blew up with all of their songs at the same time with only 1 really breaking through. Bury a friend and good as hell are sort of hits but nowhere near bad guy and truth hurts

And yet which one will be remembered and respected - if that matters of course kii I don't know, ask in 5 years. If you had asked the question of Meghan Trainor when AATB was still #1 you would have a different perspective than today. Not sure that's true. There was literally never a moment Meghan Trainor was seen as "cool," and Lizzo has that factor in spades. It makes a big difference (see: Meghan trying to gain any traction today--it's like negative traction).

She'll never go back to the levels of irrelevance that she had for the first 7 or so years of her career, which means she'll probably never struggle with money.
I think she will have a very good career. Probably not Rihanna level or anything, but bigger than Iggy and Meghan. Might even rival Cardi's longevity? For all the crap people give Cardi, even with her lackluster material this year she yielded a top three hit and two more top 20s.
As for one hit wonder, Billie has multiple hits already if you broaden your definition of a hit beyond "spent a single week above #40 on the Hot 100", but even then, she has multiple top 40 hits. As for Lizzo, it's a matter of time before GAH gives her another hit (and give her six months or so and you'll see her featured on several big hits).

The difference between Billie and Lizzo is the genres they're in. I could easily see somebody collabing with Lizzo still even without any major hits not like Billie (although I'm certain she could come far). The real question should be with Lil Nas X especially after announcing a break from music

Lil Nas strikes me as sort of a novelty act. But we'll see.

I’m still trying to upack the Meghan Trainer comparison because either your friend is making an admittedly fair (albeit horrible lmao) point or a stupid one depending on what angle they’re coming from. That’s as close as I’ll come to touching on that though, lol.
Otherwise I agree with Jazzy. Whatever happens, she’s going to amass a decently loyal fanbase. Maybe not a major player, but she’ll see some kind of success.

The fact that Lizzo already had a cult following alone will keep her from becoming a Meghan. Lorde would be a more apt comparison, if one thinks Lizzo's top-40-hit days are numbered. Lorde had a sophomore slump, but still had her critical acclaim and enough of a fanbase to headline a WW tour.
Personally I think Lizzo's age, not her branding or sound, will be the biggest hurdle to her longevity. She's 31 which is an unusually late age for a woman having a mainstream breakthrough. But J. Lo's English-music career comes to mind. Jenny was 29 when she first hit the music scene, also at the end of a decade, and had a decent four albums/six years of relevance. I can see Lizzo's career panning out something close to that.

Lizzo's attempts to create an online personality will still destroy her.

Why are people so obsessed with her body? Unless you're her doctor, how could you even say she has an unhealthy lifestyle or diet?!! "Being fat" or "high cholesterol" are not Lizzo's talking points -- "loving the skin you are in" is. If anyone is disappointed to see her body change, they are clearly not listening to her messaging.
That being said, a lot of women in music tend to go through physical changes (yes, you heard it -- much like anybody else in the world) after becoming famous. In fact, Meghan Trainor herself lost some weight right after AATB's success, Demi Lovato and Jesy Nelson from Little Mix have been bullied for years until they got thinner at the waist, Adele had a transformation in between album cycles and motherhood, and Rihanna put on a couple pounds and got everyone speculating. Lizzo's body might change too, and I don't see how that would hurt or help her career. She has a lot of people rooting for her and supporting her, and her songs are extremely relatable for a large chunk of the population. My guess is that she'll get a couple more moderate hits in the next 6 months before starting a new cycle later next year.

Part of Meghan's downfall was Me Too with lyrics about demanding respect for wearing a gold necklace and getting VIP treatment at the clubs. Went against the common perception that she was JUST LIKE US, the girl who got famous and made good.

Lizzo's attempts to create an online personality will still destroy her. ???? I've been following her on social media for years, she's the same as she's always been. Twerking, Sahsa Flute, videos/pics from live shows, bawdy jokes, glamour shots, reposts of articles and fan gushing, goofing around with her girls while on the road. The only thing different now is she shills for Truth Hurts to break the number 1 record a lot. I think of Lizzo as similar to an indie band that gets a huge pop hit then goes back to the underground with a bigger audience. If she doesn't stick around hte mainstream that's what will happen... which is still a win IMO.

Lizzo, despite her age, is very "in" with the younger generation. Everyone knows and loves Lizzo and her message of self-love. Everyone knows and loves Truth Hurts and Good As Hell. Most people know and love Juice. She gives the impression that she genuinely cares about all her listeners, which will keep her fanbase loyal. "Cuz I Love You" is full of awesome songs, so I'm not super concerned that she has no hits from her latest album. I think that Juice and Like A Girl, if that's what she chooses to push, can both end up top 10 on pop radio. I wonder how she'll maintain buzz after the CILY era is over, though.

Halfway in 2020 and both her hits sound dated already, albeit they are old songs to begin with.

And Lizzo is already basically a footnote. Her window to get new music out is small and closing quickly.

She needs to do something... this Cuz I Love You era is DONE. She had her Truth Hurts, she had her Good as Hell, she tried with Cuz I Love You (S) and now trying it kinda with Soulmate but it isn't working.
Release a collaboration... Release a stand alone song... Unless she can have another moderate hit at the least, she's already a fad. I hope her next era does well.

Honestly, I love Lizzo. Her music is the best of last year. Periodt! But in today's times it is easy to forget someone. Lizzo does need to drop a new song because the Cuz I Love You era really is gone. She needs to hurry up and capitalize before people forget about her...
