I don't know what's going through his mind, But I feel he still hasn't dealt with his Mother's passing..so maybe he's lashing out? Could be wrong though. Feel for him alot. With that being said, I only enjoyed like 4 tracks, but I'll always listen to Ye, horrible or not.

I know people can have all sorts of conversions and epiphanies when they have gone through some really bad shit in their lives or something traumatic happens and sometimes religion helps them find peace and get through it, but I just have such a hard time believing that he has found God right now when he produced a song called "Work This Pussy" for Teyana Taylor last year. I know I have *thought* that I found God when I had some truly lifechanging, earthshaking sex and I was definitely on my knees appreciating what I just experienced but I didn't go open a church or something after that.

If you're going to do gospel then do it justice. This is horseshit music.

It'll be fun seeing how critics bend over backwards to give this a good review. I've yet to see anything good about this album (other than the few in this thread)

I'm glad the hype seems to be very small to non-existent this time around. Most overhyped, overrated artist of all time, probably. “Non-existent” where exactly? Spotify and A.M say otherwise. Furthermore, the Man is one of the most acclaimed acts of the 21st century, factually speaking, and exceedingly influential. Just say you don't like him (like many) and leave it there! 💀

Gotta appreciate the range and emotional growth of a man that can go from you're such a fucking ho! I love it! to JESUS IS KING in 13 months, no?
Currently projected to debut at #1 with 225-275k SPS (60-85k sales); this will make for his 9th consecutive #1 debut.

This doesn't come from a place of malice but I wish he would take his meds again.
What an underwhelming project.

Love this album. A couple songs even brought tears to my eyes. Still, one of his most underwhelming, but the man has at least 4 classics.

Several major publications have only given the album subpar/satisfactory reviews because of West’s current image and artistic direction because it most definitely isn’t deserving of just one or two stars.
Personally speaking, the album is his best since “Yeezus” and is certainly better than “TLOP” and “YE”.
The man is an absolute musical chameleon and the album is worthy of being praised for its matter of difference alone.
A LEGEND!

if you ignore the fact that he's released some of the best rap albums of all time such as My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy, Late Registration, The College Dropout, Kids See Ghosts, Yeezus, The Life of deleted, Graduation & 808's & Heartbreak then sure he's overrated
but you can't really ignore that can you
this is his worst album though, i'd say around a 7/10
early favourites are "On God", "Follow God", "Use This Gospel" and "Water"

He isnt overrated. He has 3 albums that to me rival how much I loved Nas. Specifically speaking to his last few projects especially this one. Lately I dont get music from him, I get noise.
Putting aside his mental health challenges which I dont wanna touch so just sticking to the music side. There is alot of singers/rappers who have mental health issues diagnosed and many undiagnosed or untreated so nobody gets a pass from me based on that. You cant help your challenges but you can try and not be an asshole and a douche. If Slavery is a choice, then being a good person is too.🙄🙏🏾 but judging on music alone I give this 3/10 stars.

I'll always give Kanye a curiosity spin. Simply because of the amazing music he released in the first half of his career. But I'll make sure to do it in a method where he won't receive a damn dime (Kanye getting my time is enough, he's not getting my coins).
This album is a misfire. Thematically, lyrically, performance-wise, he's off his game and out of his depth. It's strange that so much toil went into it and this is the final project. A bunch of loose song sketches with nothing anchoring them or bringing them together to create a convincing body of work. Hardly anything sticks and it lacks the dynamism he's capable of. Some very nice production moments along the way though! But that's to be expected.
And Kanye just dug a f**king tunnel right under his lowest moment with "Closed On Sunday." What a travesty of a song.

Surprised to see that Timbaland had a hand in producing a handful of songs.

What a travesty of a song. I think you’ve said it best and I completely agree. It’s such a sad thing to witness. I will always say that he is a musical genius. His first five albums defined my college years in Chicago when he was at his peak. I always associate him with Obama during those years and it was just such a groundbreaking and iconic time to be young. With Yeezus, it took a few years for it to finally realize its genius. deleted was more immediate for me but messy. Ye and now this...I cant picture myself coming back and saying “Oh NOW i get it!” As a man of faith myself, this album is just...awful. It feels like he is talking about God and his faith in the most egotistic and self centered context. Im not buying it. And these new comments about anti abortion, anti Plan B, etc...girl no. Sadly I refuse to support him but at the same time I will say he is a talented musician who will go down in the history books. I honestly don’t see Kim dealing with much more of this before the divorce...

Kanye is one of the few celebrities who has gone too far for me. I can't celebrate him or his output anymore, I just can't stand him. And I actually like the Kardashians!

"We’re brainwashed out here, bro. Come on, man. This is a free man talking. Democrats had us voting [for] Democrats with food stamps for years. What are you talking about? Guns in the 80s, taking the fathers out the home, Plan B, lowering our votes, making us abort our children…Thou shall not kill."
Kanye West's 'Jesus Is King' IMAX Film Earns Over $1 Million at Global Box Office 10/28/2019 by Michael Saponara
Kanye West's Jesus Is King IMAX film released in over 400 theaters globally last Thursday (Oct. 24), which led to the 35-minute movie raking in $1.04 million globally across 21 markets, according to an IMAX press release.
The limited-release will only remain in select markets through Wednesday (Oct. 30), before expanding to 78 additional territories around the globe on Nov. 8. According to the release, $862,000 of the revenue came from 372 North American IMAX theaters, while $175,000 was generated through 68 international venues in 12 markets.
"Kanye is one of the most groundbreaking artists of our time," Megan Colligan, president of IMAX Entertainment tells Billboard. "The incredible sound of Sunday Service combined with the beauty of the Roden Crater on the IMAX platform was an amazing opportunity. We are excited to work with different artists to bring surprising new experiences to our audiences."
"Kanye did not want to be centre stage. He said, ‘This isn't a film that is about me, this is a film about worship - that's a universal thing,'" the film's director, Nick Knight, relayed to SHOWstudio. "He certainly didn't want to be ‘Kanye West, the star of this film. It was a lack of ego and modest humility that was paramount to him in this film."
The flick, which was shot at James Turrell's Roden Crater installation in Arizona, gives fans a look at West's reconnection to his faith through the gospel. He even sings an 808s & Heartbreak fan-favorite toward the end of the film.

Kanye West: My $68 million tax refund is God’s reward for me being a ChristianSky Palma BySky Palma Posted on October 29, 2019
When you’re a celebrity who also happens to be a born-again Christian, God will reward you with millions of dollars on top of the millions you already have — at least that’s according to Kanye West‘s version of Christianity.
During an appearance on late night talk show host James Corden’s Carpool Karaoke this Monday, the musician and vocal Trump supporter said that the $68 million tax refund he received in 2019 was his reward from God for being a good Christian.
“God is using me to show off,” West told Corden. “Last year I made $115 million and still ended up $35 million in debt. This year I looked up and I just got $68 million returned to me on my tax returns.”
“People need to hear [from] someone that has been put into debt by the system, talk about these type of numbers now that they’re in service to Christ,” he continued.
As Alex Young points out in a recent article for the Consequence of Sound, Kanye’s tax refund was definitely a blessing, but it didn’t come from God. It came from his other savior, Donald Trump.
“It also helps that he now finds himself at the head of a church likely exempt from paying taxes,” Young writes.
