Wow, this is fantastic!! I knew it would be despite all the pessimism in this thread, but I'm definitely glad to hear that it didn't push the country boundaries any farther than what they'd already been doing. Justin Bieber sounds great on this and was as perfect a male duet partner for D+S as they could've asked for. They're already on a big roll right now after their last era, but I can see this being even bigger than "Tequila." Love this. The song is fine, but it’s not country. I’m ready for them to just admit they’re pop & move on from country. It’s one of the (many) things I appreciate about Taylor Swift.

That and labeling of genre of music is so blurry it's hard to say what's definitively one genre or the other except in extreme scenarios. I don't see how this is any less country than the stuff Kelsea Ballerini, Thomas Rhett, and Chris Lane release.

The fact they’re sending this to pop radio immediately is indicative of their intentions.

The fact they’re sending this to pop radio immediately is indicative of their intentions. I like that idea. Instead of giving Justin Bieber a country hit, Dan + Shay can have a Hot 100 hit. I do expect this one to chart in country.

#1 on iTunes, selling 4x more than #2 song. Also #26 on AM. I expect a top 5-10 debut on Spotify tomorrow.

I wonder if this could manage a top 10 debut on the Hot 100? It seems like the GP is treating this as a Justin Bieber single as much as they are a Dan + Shay single.

Expectedly awful, and I promise I listened with an open mind. Dan + Shay are pure pop (and atrocious pop at that) so I wish they'd just gtfo of the genre... they can take Bieber with them now, I guess.
Aside from a few artists modern country music is an absolute JOKE. A laughing stock really. I hope the genre stops reaching new lows. No more awful pop songs by awful pop artists please.

Just listened to the song and I like it, hope it does well. As for the question of whether or not it is country, eh it really doesn't matter to me.

Given what music videos are like these days, I was pleasantly surprised to see it be romantic and saccharine sweet and wholesome. It is a bit much though.

I do like the song, but there's nothing country about it at all. Whether or not that even matters in 2019 is a different story.

Can somebody edit the thread title to be "Dan + Shay + Justin Bieber"? There are too many rare punctuation marks in the same thread title... Lmao

This combo should have been able to come up with something stronger. Yes I like it enough and it will do well, but I would have preferred them just releasing “Keeping Score” if this mediocre single was going to the the result.

Country music has had “awful pop” on it’s charts literally EVERY decade the genre has existed. I get that people like yourself dream for some “purity” on the charts but it’s highly y likely to happen.

And yes, I get that pop country has always been a thing, but far too often in the last few years we've dropped the 'country' part altogether and just started making pop music and throwing it in the country genre simply because the artist themselves identify as country or are on a country label. I get being progressive and all that but my goodness, it would be nice to have at least a sliver of country music elements in some of these songs and artists.

I wish this board could've existed in the late 80s/early 90s. I bet there would have been a ton of traditionalists saying the same kind of things about the guys that hit radio in that era.
Things evolve. It's okay not to like it but you don't have to go into every thread dumping on it. There's no merit badge for being an outlaw or something.

Garth was considered “pop trash” by purists of that day. And while he did wear influences, his records always had lots of fiddles and steel guitars.

I don't think many -- certainly no one on this board, which generally dislikes "Saving Country Music" -- are opposed to evolution. At issue here is why this counts as "evolution." It's not using outside influences to take country in a bold, new direction ... it's just making country more and more like pop and Hot AC. And, you're right, there have always been mainstream artists who have been condemned as too poppy for country. But, the recent crops of pop songs we're getting don't even seem to make superficial overtures toward the genre. And they sometimes feature literal pop artists instead of people who have devoted their lives to country and could really benefit from the break. On top of that, changing music consumption is doing a better job than ever of exposing people to real, quality country music ... and revealing that it's what people want. The sales numbers for theoretically underground country acts compare very favorably to those for your throwaway pop-country radio darlings. Luke Combs is by far the biggest thing in the genre right now, and while he's no "outlaw," he's pretty clearly country. With all that talent - and all that demand - why be a pop-lite format?

I thought the song ok...it fits Dan+Shay and it might be a hit on pop and country radio although I was never a fan of Bieber, he didnt make a bad job on it.In the other hand, the music video for me was boring.
