While Wynonna Judd was with the Judds, they scored only one #2 hit and that was Give A Little Love in 1988. As a solo artist, she scored two: A Bad Goodbye with Clint Black (1993) and Rock Bottom (1994). BOTH have similar stats: one week at the runner up position and 15 weeks in the top 40. Since the duet came from the Black album, No Time To Kill, let us pick the solo recording so we can keep the talk all Judd. That came from her 1993 album, Tell Me Why. The title track was the lead single. Released in early 1993, it proceeded to a #3 peak. Then the duet was released and that peaked at #2. It should be noted that both Judd and Black toured that year. They called it The Black And Wy tour. Judd scored another two hits with Only Love (#3) and Is It Over Yet (#6 in 1994). Rock Bottom was released in January and peaked at #2 in April and could not topple Faith Hill's second chart topper, Piece Of My Heart from #1. A fifth single, Girls With Guitars peaked at #10 during the summer of 1994. Judd enjoyed star backup from her mother, Naomi Judd and Lyle Lovett.

Alabama has a sextet of #2 hits. They are:
1. Here We Are-1991 2. Born Country-1992 3. Take A Little Trip-1992 4. She Ain't Your Ordinary Girl-1995 5. Sad Lookin' Moon-1997 6. How Do You Fall In Love-1998
Both Here We Are and Sad Lookin' Moon have similar stats. Both spent a week at the runner up position and 19 weeks in the top 40. I will break the tie by personal preference. That goes to Here We Are. That came from their 1990 album, Pass It On Down. The title track was the lead single. That peaked at #3 during the summer and broke their second longest streak of chart toppers at six. Next came their biggest hit and that was Jukebox In My Mind. That topped the chart for four weeks in September. Third single was a crossover hit and that was Forever's As Far As I'll Go. That started their 1991 in fine fashion when it topped the country chart in January. It also peaked at #15 at adult contemporary. The fourth single became their second biggest hit. That was Down Home and that became a three week #1 in April. In May, Here We Are was released. It peaked at #2 in August and could not clear Trisha Yearwood's first #1, She's In Love With The Boy out of the top spot. It should be noted that Here We Are was written by Vince Gill. He was at #11 for the week with Liza Jane.

The Desert Rose Band have two #2 hits: One Step Forward and Summer Wind (both 1988). Both have the same stats: one week at #2 and 14 weeks in the top 40. Let me break the tie by personal preference. That goes to Summer Wind. It was the lead single to their 1988 album, Running. Released in July, it spent a week at the runner up position in November while T. Graham Brown enjoyed a #1 with Darlene. 1989 saw the group chart with the other three singles: I Still Believe In You (#1), She Don't Love Nobody (#3), and Hello Trouble (#11).

Willie Nelson has a trio of #2 hits. They are:
1. Remember Me-1976 2. Let It Be Me-1982 3. Last Thing I Needed First Thing This Morning-1983
Titles #2 and #3 spent two weeks in the runner up position, so let us go to top 40 weeks. Respectively, they are 12 weeks versus 11 weeks, so Let It Be Me gets the honor. That was taken from the Nelson album of 1982 called Always On My Mind. The lead single was the title track and that became a huge crossover hit. It topped the country chart for two weeks in May, peaked at #5 pop, and topped off at #2 on the adult contemporary chart. Let It Be Me was the second single and that was released in July. That was a remake of the Everly Brothers pop hit of 1960 (#7). It was remade by Betty Everett and Jerry Butler (#5 pop in 1964). Then a duet version appeared by Glen Campbell and Bobbie Gentry in 1969 (#14 country, #36 pop, and #7 A.C.). That spent two weeks at #2 in October while Ronnie Milsap and Alabama enjoyed chart topping hits. Let It Be Me crossed over to #40 pop and #11 A.C.. Third and final single, Last Thing I Needed First Thing This Morning spent a couple of weeks at #2 in February and March, 1983 while Charley Pride scored a chart topper with Why Baby Why and Don Williams did the same with If Hollywood Don't Need You.

The nod goes to Only Daddy That'll Walk The Line. That was the second single off his 1968 album, Only The Greatest. Lead single, Walk On Out Of My Mind topped off at #5. It spent the first three weeks in the runner up position behind Mama Tried by Merle Haggard and stayed there an additional two weeks while Jeannie C. Riley took over with Harper Valley P.T.A.. Only Daddy That'll Walk The Line would chart for The Kentucky Headhunters in 1991 (#60).

They all spent two weeks in the runner up position, so let us go to top 40 weeks. Respectively, they are: 17, 18, and 16 weeks, so New Way To Light Up An Old Flame gets the honor. That came from Diffie's 1990 debut album, A Thousand Winding Roads. The lead single became his first chart topper in November called Home. He kicked off his 1991 with his first #2, If You Want Me To. It was at that position between the last week of February and first week of March while Mike Reid and Alan Jackson enjoyed their first #1s in Walk On Faith and I'd Love You All Over Again, respectively. Diffie would collect his second #1 in June with If The Devil Danced In Empty Pockets. Diffie closed out the era with New Way To Light Up An Old Flame. Released in July, it was blocked from the top for two weeks in October while Ricky Van Shelton and Travis Tritt enjoyed chart topping hits.

Moe Bandy has a pair of #2 hits: Hank Williams, You Wrote My Life (1976) and It's A Cheating Situation (1979). BOTH spent two weeks in the runner up position, so let us go to top 40 weeks: 11 versus 10 respectively, so the former gets the honor. Bandy signed to the Columbia label in 1975. He released his debut single, Hank Williams, You Wrote My Life in November. It peaked at #2 in February, 1976 for two weeks and could not clear the duet that Waylon Jennings and Willie Nelson had at the top called Good Hearted Woman. Lead single, She Dreams peaked at #6 during the summer. The second single was Goin' Through The Big D. That was released in October and found its way to #2 for two weeks in January, 1995 while Tim McGraw was tops with Not A Moment Too Soon. The Statler Brothers have a trio of #2 hits. They are:
1. Flowers On The Wall-1966 2. Do You Remember These-1972 3. Oh Baby Mine I Get So Lonely-1983
Titles #1 and #2 spent four weeks in the runner up position, so let us go to top 40 weeks-25 versus 14, respectively, so Flowers On The Wall gets the honor. That was the title track to their 1966 album. The lead single, I Still Miss Someone was written and recorded by Johnny Cash. Cash lent the Statler Brothers financial support when they first got started in the music business. However, the Statlers' version failed to chart in 1965. Then came Flowers On The Wall. That was released in September and climbed all the way to #2 for four weeks in January and February, 1966 and could not unseat Red Sovine's Giddyup Go from the top. It became a crossover hit, peaking at #4 pop. It won the Statlers a Grammy for Best Contemporary Performance-Group Vocal or Instrumental. The third single failed to chart. That was My Darling Hildegard. Flowers On The Wall would chart in 2000 for Eric Heatherly (#6).

Martina McBride has a trio of #2 hits. They are:
1. My Baby Loves Me-1993 2. Happy Girl-1998 3. Whatever You Say-1999
The honor goes to her only multi week #2 hit, Happy Girl. That is on McBride's 1997 album, Evolution. Lead single, A Broken Wing was released in late 1997. It topped the chart in January, 1998. The second single, Valentine was released in February (how appropriate). It features Jim Brickman. That peaked at #9. Third single, Happy Girl was released in April. It peaked at the runner up position for two weeks in August and could not get the Dixie Chicks' There's Your Trouble out of the top spot. After that near miss, McBride released Wrong Again. That became her third chart topping hit in January, 1999. A fifth single was released in Whatever You Say. That spent a week at #2 in July while George Strait was tops with Write This Down. It should be noted that Evolution features her duet with Clint Black called Still Holding On (#11 in 1997). However, that was officially released off the Nothin' But The Taillights album.

Mel Tillis has a trio of #2 hits. They are:
1. Sawmill-1973 2. Midnight, Me, And The Blues-1974 3. Send Me Down To Tucson-1979
The nod goes to the only multi week #2, Send Me Down To Tucson. That came from his 1979 album called Are You Sincere. It was the only single. Released in December 1978, it held the #2 position for three weeks in March, 1979 while Dave & Sugar enjoyed their biggest hit, Golden Tears. Three things should be noted: The b-side, Charlie's Angel charted. The song was also on the Every Which Way But Loose soundtrack. Tillis was in the top ten with other soundtrack singles from Charlie Rich and Eddie Rabbitt. Finally, Tillis did get a chart topper from the soundtrack with the follow up, Coca Cola Cowboy.

Sammy Kershaw has a trio of #2 hits. They are:
1. National Working Woman's Holiday-1994 2. Third Rate Romance-1994 3. Love Of My Life-1998
Titles #2 and #3 spent two weeks at #2, so let us go to top 40 weeks: 16 versus 23, respectively, so Love Of My Life gets the honor. That came from Kershaw's 1997 album, Labor Of Love. It was also the lead single. It was released in October and peaked at #2 for two weeks in February, 1998 and could not unseat the biggest hit of the year, Just To See You Smile by Tim McGraw out of the top spot. It was also Kershaw's eleventh and final top ten hit. The same week it hit the runner up position, Mercury released a duet version with Terri Clark, Kershaw's labelmate at the time. Three more singles were released: Matches (#22), Honky Tonk America (#31), and One Day Left To Live (#35). The final single peaked in 1999.

Jim Ed Brown and Helen Cornelius have a pair of #2 hits: Saying Hello, Saying I Love You, Saying Goodbye (1977) and Lying In Love With You (1979). The latter was their only multi week #2, so that gets the nod. That came from their 1978 album called You Don't Bring Me Flowers. Lead single, If The World Ran Out Of Love Tonight peaked at #6. The second single was the title track. That was a remake of the 1978 hit that Barbra Streisand and Neil Diamond had (#1 pop and #3 adult contemporary). The country version peaked at #10 in early 1979. The final single was Lying In Love With You. Released in March, it spent two weeks at #2 in May and could not topple the Bellamy Brothers' biggest hit, If I Said You Have A Beautiful Body Would You Hold It Against Me from the top.

Terri Clark has a pair of #2 hits: Now That I Found You (1998) and I Just Wanna Be Mad (2003). The former spent two weeks at #2 while the latter spent one week at the runner up position, so Now That I Found You gets the nod. That came from the 1998 Clark album, How I Feel. It also served as the lead single. Released in March, it spent two weeks at #2 in July while Collin Raye and Garth Brooks enjoyed chart topping hits. Bigger things were to come with the second single, You're Easy On The Eyes. That became her biggest hit when it spent three weeks at the top between December and January, 1999. She managed another big hit with the #12 peaking Everytime I Cry. She faltered a bit with the fourth single, Unsung Hero. It flopped at #47.

The first week behind Brooks & Dunn's That Ain't No Way To Go and then Wink by Neal McCoy kept Gill at bay for another two weeks. He ended the year with the title track which peaked at #3. He started 1995 on a #4 note with Which Bridge To Cross Which Bridge To Burn. You Better Think Twice was the fifth single. They spent one and two weeks in the runner up spot, respectively, so Blue Bayou gets the nod. It was the lead single to her 1977 album, Simple Dreams. It was a remake of the Roy Orbison hit of 1963 (#29 pop and #26 r&b). Released in August, it spent two weeks at #2 in November and December while Waylon Jennings and Dolly Parton took turns at the top. It also crossed over to #3 pop and #3 adult contemporary. Sugarland has a quartet of #2 hits. They are:
1. Baby Girl-2005 2. Something More-2005 3. Stay-2008 4. Stuck Like Glue-2010
The nod goes to Something More. They signed to the Mercury label in 2004. They released their debut single, Baby Girl from their debut album, Twice The Speed Of Life during the summer of 2004. It peaked at #2 for two weeks in April, 2005 while Craig Morgan was tops with his biggest hit, That's What I Love About Sunday. The Morgan hit would become the biggest hit of the year. Second single, Something More was released that April. It climbed all the way to the runner up position for five weeks in August and September. It held the #2 position for four weeks while Toby Keith enjoyed his second biggest hit, As Good As I Once Was and then Faith Hill sidestepped Sugarland with her final #1, Mississippi Girl. Sugarland released one more single in 2005. That was Just Might Make Me Believe. That peaked at #7 in 2006. One more single closed out their debut era and that was Down In Mississippi Up To No Good. That topped off at #17. It should be noted that after Twice The Speed Of Life ran its course, Kristen Hall left the trio and Sugarland condensed to a duo.

Hal Ketchum has a trio of #2 hits. They are:
1. Small Town Saturday Night-1991 2. Past The Point Of Rescue-1992 3. Hearts Are Gonna Roll-1993
All spent a week in the runner up position. However, titles #2 and #3 spent the most time in the top 40 at 17 weeks, so let us break the tie by personal preference. That goes to Hearts Are Gonna Roll. That came from his 1992 album, Sure Love. The title track was the lead single. Released late in 1992, it peaked at #3 in early 1993. The second single, Hearts Are Gonna Roll was released in February. It became Ketchum's third #2 hit and could not topple Tracy Lawrence's Alibis from the top spot in May. Two more singles were released that year: Mama Knows The Highway (#8) and Someplace Far Away Careful What You're Dreamin' (#24).
