Big question is given these are fan voted and likely to be given to people who attend, how did Lizzo not snag even one? Blame it on the juice

...these are fan voted awards yeah right, that's because Ariana wasn't there You act like they haven't awarded artists that don't show up before. They do. All the time. Also, Ariana had a show in Florida tonight.

Toni Braxton has been the only one so far worthy of being behind that microphone, what a breath of fresh air. Her performance was pure class, elegance, and above all, talent.

Big question is given these are fan voted and likely to be given to people who attend, how did Lizzo not snag even one? Because of who she was up against. New Artist of the Year - Billie has a more rabid fanbase than Lizzo. Wouldn't even shock me if she managed to come in below Luke Combs and Lil Nas X either. Favorite Female Artist – Soul/R&B - Beyoncé has a strong fanbase too. Not supremely rabid, but they are large and show up when needed. Favorite Song – Soul/R&B - Khalid winning over Lizzo is a bit surprising here, but they probably had pretty close numbers. Khalid also appeals more to the demographic that is likely to repeat vote. Poor Ella Mai didn't stand in chance in either of the Soul/R&B categories, lol.

Toni Braxton has been the only one so far worthy of being behind that microphone And she didn't even sing a single note! Of which she did not showcase. Because she lipped the entire thing. She still performed her ass off in a dramatic display of movements and facial expressions, but that was absolutely a studio vocal.

My statement still stands though, that was the *only* performance with my time this evening. EDIT: just loved the DOOKIE tribute 😍

I love when Selena Gomez releases ballads because it guarantees a couple hilarious live performances of said ballads. She didn’t disappoint!

IIRC Lizzo lost all of her VMA nominations earlier this year, so not surprising that she also lost all her nominations at another fan-voted show. She has a fanbase but I don't get the sense they're a super dedicated one (or rather, the portion of her fanbase that would be that overzealous is not yet very large).
I started following Khalid on Twitter a month or so ago, and already I am contemplating unfollowing him because he constantly retweets and responds to his fans and when I catch him on the wrong day it has my feed all kinds of f**ked up...boy do his fans tweet at him a lot. They definitely are the rabid-voter type. Probably not enough that he'd win out in a pop or overall category, but enough that he would in the r&b field. He's been around/charting hits longer than Lizzo has so it makes sense that at the moment, his fanbase is bigger.
It shouldn't be surprising at all that Taylor won out over Ariana; their fanbases can likely put in a similar amount of votes, but Taylor got a lot of recent publicity and public empathy from the situation with Big Machine, and would have easily pulled in more casual votes on top of the fanbase votes she was already getting.

Ariana Grande 0? Zero? Taylor won Female artist and Video over Ariana. C'mon AMAs, get out of Taylor's ass. I mean, she really deserves Artist of the Decade, but other stuff? She only won them because she was there. If Ariana wasn’t on tour and attended, she easily would have walked away with a handful. This is how the AMAs always go. BTS won 3 awards tonight and they weren't there. They accepted an award via pre-recorded speech. There's no reason they'd do that but block out Ariana for not attending. Especially if the reason she's not there is a concert.

Love how Post is in a full fangirl mode when Shania's classics are on because who isn't?

Love how Post is in a full fangirl mode when Shania's classics are on because who isn't? YES! I grew up listening to Shania and loved all those songs then and I still do and it was just so great seeing her up on a big stage now. It was a wonderful trip down memory lane.

The show last night was different but entertaining. There were a few "what is going on moments"? and a lot of either lipping or off key singing on a decent amount of performances. My favorite performances of the night were Dua Lipa, Camila Cabello (solo) though I didn't care for parts of it either. I really liked Toni's "Unbreak My Heart". I thought the arrangement was very powerful. Christina was good and I remember liking Halsey and Thomas Rhett. My good friend just got into country so I've been hearing it more often. Normally I would have changed him. Halsey always seems to put on a good performance and I have been getting more in "Graveyard" recently. Shania was pretty good once she got going. Actually I didn't skip any performances. The show was well put together but I've had the same complaints for years. It's always about the lipsyncing. lol Though now a days I have no clue at times what's going on with the microphones or sound systems of today. At times it sounds like there's almost a small computer voice filtering through the mics. lol

Selena Gomez apparently had a panic attack before performing so that could’ve been why her performance wasn’t the best

Watching now. Saw some of the acceptance speeches at like 3 AM but that was it.
Thoughts: 1. How in fuck did Selena Gomez get a recording contract?
2. Does Ciara do coke? Why else would she think wanted...THAT??
3. I thought Constance Wu was the chick who moderated Girls Cruise reunion. Isn't she dating Young Yeezy?
4. I thought Tyra was Beyonce because I missed her name being called.
5. Lizzo's gown was beautiful. All I could think of was when @pma2015 asked if she was out of breath when I saw her live. She looked defeated afterwards.
6. Senorita isn't even a good song. Taylor's reaction was like...I did the beard thing better. Also, why is Billy Porter allowing himself to be her gay prop at the fucking AMAs?!
7. Is this all Big Freedia does in songs? Anyway, Tik Tok yessssss! I love Kesha.
8. Toni was the best by far.
9. Billie still low-key sucks live but I still think her album is solid.
10. Kevin. Jonas.
11. Taylor has come such a long way as an artist and performer. She was meant to be an entertainer, plain and simple. I love how everyone in the crowd loved it. Also, good to see her building genuine goodwill and friendship in the industry. It's hard to imagine she is a bad egg when so many other celebs seem to enjoy her. Also, she better keep pushing SOTY Lover. I don't think I will ever get sick of that song. Glad she hasn't abandoned it.
12. What was going on with Meghan Thee Stallion and Jharrel? She looked disgusted to be on stage and he just seemed...idk. Over it.
13. I still can't believe I paid for the Great Big World's CD. Also, Xtina sounded AMAZING. But, this song is NO Say Something. But, again...XTINA sounded amazing...til that one part at the end where she sounded like Kermit the Frog got stuck in her voice box.
14. Postie is so cute! That Circles performance was endearing. Ozzy was up there FEELING those beats and selling the drama. Carrie Underwood is lowkey lustin' for Post. This was not the first time tonight she was stannin'.
15. Dua is READY. Ciara was not ready for those balloons though!
16. SHANIA!! What was that cover shit though?? STILL...QUEEN. Glad I didn't read spoilers and see she closed the show! Crowd definitely felt her the most

12. What was going on with Meghan Thee Stallion and Jharrel? She looked disgusted to be on stage and he just seemed...idk. Over it. I can't believe more people aren't talking about this moment. I had a visceral reaction watching them present. I was generally concerned about something having happened behind stage or on the prompt or something. I haven't felt that much second-hand embarrassment/telepathic cringe since Mariah Carey's infamous NYE performance. And that's saying something given Selena's opening performance.
