She was EXTREMELY eloquent with everything she wrote: I'm sorry she left and will miss her wisdom and POV.

...I guess now’s the time to reveal that CU confirmed today in her virtual fan club that she’s making an official Christmas album, due out at the end of this year!

Plot-twist: Stephanie was really an intern on Carrie Underwood's team sent here to gauge interest in her Christmas album and play devil's advocate to reveal any pitfalls with the project.
But in all seriousness, yas @ this actually coming true!

If "Drinking Alone" is near its end, is it plausible to have a 5th single that would lead right up to the Christmas single/album?

If "Drinking Alone" is near its end, is it plausible to have a 5th single that would lead right up to the Christmas single/album? I doubt it. If they released a 5th single in July, and it had a similar chart run to "Drinking Alone", the 5th single wouldn't even peak until February 2021. And that's assuming a) DA actually (finally) peaks in June and b) the 5th single doesn't climb the charts even slower than DA. No, I really think they're going to be done with the era after DA. And honestly? I'm ready to move on.

Given where we are at with the pandemic and its impact on the music business overall I don’t see much downside to a 5th single at this point...I mean most album eras are going to be pushed back quite a bit as it is (Dixie Chicks for example). Are we actually expecting an entire new era from Carrie by February of next year anyways? With that said, bring on “Ghosts on the Stereo!”

I would consider that a "mini-era" of sorts. I don't think it's unreasonable to expect a new non-holiday album from Carrie in 2021, even with the pandemic. Given she usually likes to take some time off between album releases, I don't see a 5th single happening. Not to mention, if a 5th single were to flop, that could do more harm than good when it comes time for her new lead single.

Not to mention, if a 5th single were to flop, that could do more harm than good when it comes time for her new lead single. I think some y’all are underestimating how long of a delay this is having on the next album eras especially for artists such as Carrie. Entire tours are planned around albums and most artists have all rescheduled their 2020 plans for 2021...so, I don’t think it’s far fetched to assume that even Carrie and her team are re-evaluating any plans they might’ve had for the next era. Even so, a Christmas album from any artist is never considered a “mini-era” IMO. I actually happen to think that “Ghosts on the Stereo” makes more sense now as single and it could even make for a perfect video. Unless Carrie and her team decide to let the Christmas album seque into her next era (which at this time isn’t likely until late spring 2021), I really see no reason to not release another single.

The label may be smart to max this in the next couple of weeks and hope for a Top 10 on both charts and just let this go as it seems like country radio is starting to phase this one out as today "Drinking Alone" lost 37 spins and 319k in audience.

*WORD WALL INCOMING*
I also think it's coming time sadly for UMG to move on from DA. It's hit its stride lately but Top 10 looks to be as much as radio is going to let it go. I still hope for it to go as far as possible but it is what it is.
I must say, despite the hiccups at radio and the night of 11/13 (*shudders*), this era was still highly successful, what with the tour being Carrie's biggest to date and the album going Platinum (the highest selling album of 2018 by a woman of any genre). Plus...we DID get a #1 😉
As for CU7, I don't think that other than the Christmas album and the duet with David Brisbal, Carrie has focused on new music. I suppose it wouldn't be hard if the Christmas album is any indication, but she does have two young children after all. That's not to assume what Carrie does with her life as I obviously don't know her personally, but she's always put family first. If CU7 is to be coming relatively soon, I still don't expect it until mid to late 2021. That's enough time to (hopefully) have a vaccine for COVID-19 and wind up being safe enough for a tour to support the album. Of course this is all speculation (which I love to do 😜) and perhaps I am wrong about CU7 and it'll be coming shortly after the Christmas release. In any case I'm excited that we are getting new Carrie Underwood music this year!

Ok, first, I’m super excited for a Carrie Christmas album. Let’s hope it’s well produced like Kelly’s Wrapped in Red.
Second, I agree with most of the people who have posted that this appears to be almost done at radio. Based on the updates over the last few days, I don’t think this song has much time left. I think UMG should go for max spins next week, and hope for a #10 or #9 peak on billboard. I don’t see it going any further than that to be honest. This era has been successful with the tour and the EOTY nomination, but compared to other Carrie eras, it has been underwhelming. The first two singles really killed her radio momentum. Luckily she was able to get a top 5 with Southbound. This will more than likely be the first Carrie album without a #1 on billboard.

Down one place to #15 still with a bullet on Billboard.

I know we can't base everything off of one day, but today's update (-70 spins and -148K in AI) could show the beginning of the end, unfortunately.

So is this a top 10 single? Mediabase yes (it has peaked at #9) while Billboard no (#11 was it peaked). Assuming this song is done

What was the point of having this hover around #10 for nearly a month?

What was the point of having this hover around #10 for nearly a month? The label hoping radio would convert this into higher rotation, one thing about country radio and labels the label will not give up the song until the very bitter end. Also having what is probably going to be the final single from her album in the Top 10 to 15 on country radio is decent exposure to keep her name around, even if radio is probably not going to let it get any higher.

What was the point of having this hover around #10 for nearly a month? As opposed to letting go of it so she has even more time off from country radio after it goes recurrent? There's really no downside to them keeping this afloat for as long as they can, especially since it was close to the top 10 on BB and may have had a shot at reaching that threshold (though its chances are getting slimmer with each passing week). The longer they keep the airplay levels up, the more it will continue to sell/stream and keep her name out there.

Hovering around the top 10 for a long time is just as beneficial, if not more, than being shot up to the top and then left to tumble off the charts within just a few months. Continued top 10ish exposure is better than none at all!
I wish they did something unique with this, though. If they were planning to keep this afloat so long, you’d think they’d have a little something to support it; a re-release with a featured artist for a duet version? A studio recorded acoustic version?
It’s a shame the song hasn’t been accepted as it should have been (I think it would have done much better at the beginning of the era), but if they’re going to stick with it you’d think they’d have a little something different up their sleeve to support it?

Well it does look like this song could be done as it has lost 131 spins and 409k in audience the past 2 days. Not shocked as the callout has really fallen apart the last couple of weeks with this song having the highest negative score by far (24.7). Definitely a realistic possibility that "Drinking Alone" goes recurrent tonight on Billboard
