Yessss. Clocks is probably one of their best song ever. For some reason The Scientist is better known in my country than Clocks but either way, both excellent and iconic songs.

This was one of the hardest decisions I had to make regarding RDs in a while - "Clocks" and "The Scientist" are both incredible songs in their own right.

I know Clocks is becoming a common and basic winner. But dammit, itβs my favorite song ever, I canβt help it.

Yes! Clocks is my favorite 2000s song and one of my favorite songs ever. That piano never gets old. A classic!
The Scientist is great too!
thanks for hosting, can't wait for X&Y.

I did pretty well! Also, I only ranked Politik that low because I thought it had no chance anyway. In terms of preference, it's probably tied with Daylight for my fave song on the album.

Hello all and welcome back once again to the Coldplay album rankdown series! We've now completed two rounds, with "Don't Panic" and "Clocks" claiming victory. It's time to find out which song will be the next song to join these two. Up next in line is Coldplay's third studio album, X&Y. Released in mid 2005, recording took place through the entirety of 2004. After releasing two stellar albums, many were anticipating this one's release. But it was pushed back a few times due to the band's dissatisfaction with the initial outputs, which led to many re-recordings and changes in the track listing. Regarding the final product, there's a recurring theme of everything being broken or out of place, which is evident in just about every song as well as the album cover.
Overall, X&Y was well-received by critics receiving a score of 72 on Metacritic. It became a #1 charting album worldwide, including the US, and was certified platinum almost everywhere. In the US, its initial sales surpassed the initial sales of their previous two albums combined. It was a huge success for them. It also earned a Grammy nomination for Best Rock Album at the 48th ceremony.
This album spawned six singles: "Speed Of Sound", "Fix You", "Talk", "The Hardest Part", "What If", and "White Shadows". Only the first 3 managed to chart on the Billboard Hot 100, with "Speed Of Sound" peaking at #8 (and placing at #57 in the 2005 Year-End chart), "Fix You" peaking at #59, and "Talk" peaking at #86. Length-wise, this is Coldplay's longest album as it's a little over an hour long, with many songs clocking in at almost or over 5 minutes. I personally haven't listened to this album as often as I've listened to their other albums, but I like what I remember so I'm excited to revisit it.
Tracklist: X: 1. Square One 2. What If 3. White Shadows 4. Fix You 5. Talk 6. X&Y
Y: 7. Speed Of Sound 8. A Message 9. Low 10. The Hardest Part 11. Swallowed In The Sea 12. Twisted Logic 13. Til Kingdom Come
Spotify Playlist:
Instructions: 1. Rank each song from 1 to 13 based on your opinions (#1 is your favorite, #13 is your least favorite). 2. To submit, send your list to me via PM here (Adrian C. π ) OR those of you who know me on Discord can send it to me through there. 3. I would personally prefer if rankings are numbered, but it's not that big of a deal since it's not that many songs. 4. Have fun!
This is of course open to anyone! Even if you haven't participated in the previous rounds, you're welcome to submit a list if you want. Besides, a lot of you are probably quarantined in need of something to do. What better thing is there to do than to dive into a Coldplay album? Right now I think an end of May due date is feasible, so the deadline is currently Saturday, May 30 at 11:59 CST. But knowing me, I'll probably extend it depending on the number of submissions I get by then.

I used to love this album so much, but realized I was blinded by a few songs. Still, I'll do this.

this album actually has a great opener with a sense of direction but really falls short as an album, shame because the other songs are generally good on their own

Sent! I'm really fond of X&Y; it may very well be my favourite Coldplay album (depending on my mood).

*sigh* well, I sent...but mostly just to tank my 12 and 10. I didn't find much worth rooting for here.

Reminder for those who are interested! Right now I'm keeping the end of the month due date since it's still a while away. Whether or not it gets extended will be determined when we get closer to it. I've gotten a few lists already, which is great! Keep them coming! If you're uninterested and would like to be untagged, please let me know!

Now that I am playing it again, this album really brings up painful memories, as it was an album that bonded me to someone with whom I am no longer friends. I've tried to repair the friendship and he has ignored any attempt I have made. My last attempt was when COVID-9 broke. I was genuinely concerned and even though it has been years since we last saw each other, I thought maybe we could at least talk, but...guess not. But, the first time he and I really hung out solo (we met through a fraternity brother of mine who has been friends with him since elementary school), this is the album we got high and played. I'm pretty sure an iTunes visualizer was involved. The highlights on this album are career highlights and are extremely heady stuff, but the album as a whole is kinda lacking. If they had kept the experimental tack for the whole album, it would probably be in my top 3 of theirs EASILY but it's like they were still working out the kinks and couldn't decide if they wanted to be the Coldplay that sold millions or more experimental, and so the album seems conflicted. Anyway, it will always hold a special place in my heart. Doing this now,

Fix You only peaked at #59?! HOW SWAY?! I remember that song being MASSIVE. Also, the rest of the singles after Talk are ATROCIOUS OMG.

Wow it's been a while. I've had a lot going on the past several months and so I kind of just pushed this aside. But I think it's time to bring this back since there's still a lot more to come. We're currently doing Coldplay's third studio album, X&Y, and right now I've chosen Sunday, December 20 as the due date, but I know that's kind of a busy time so I'll probably end up pushing it to be due after the holidays. For the 10 Coldplayers who have already submitted something back in May, you're more than welcome to send any edits if you want. Otherwise, I will keep your lists as they are.
