I really like Call me Maybe and Good Time but she didnt pull anything since then. So she is not the queen of pop, do you understand? I mean go off sis but do you understand the irony of this statement when you refer to yourself as “king legend” yet you basically just joined and don’t even have an avi? #legendsonly The downside of only believing what Billboard tells you is that you legitimately believe Carly Rae hasn't been the lord and saviour of pop music since 2015.

Wow, it’s not even close. It looks like it might be the next number one. I hope after this it’s Circles.

Really hope Selena gets the #1! Seems like this is the thank u, next of 2019:
Reference(s) to ex(es). Is able to hit #1 despite a weird release time Reaching heights unprecedented for the artist despite previous hits. and unexpected.

I hope Demi has a similar return. IIRC she had a much bigger hit than Selena in 2017.

Is able to hit #1 despite a weird release time Reaching heights unprecedented for the artist despite previous hits. and unexpected. I love this comparison - just quoting some interesting I read on Billboard about "thank u, next" vs. "Lose You to Love Me" "I’ve been thinking a lot about how Gomez’s approach to handling health problems, a breakup and other turmoil in her personal life (by laying low, fighting her battles privately and returning years later with a raw diary entry of an explainer) is exactly the opposite of Ariana Grande’s horns-blaring approach to her own tumultuous 2018, which she sung about in real-time, to the tune of radio-friendly, strikingly honest hits like “thank u, next.” Both approaches worked, but only because they were fitting for the particular artist. Maybe in 2019, the real key to breaking the Hot 100 is authenticity." www.billboard.com/articles/business/chart-beat/8541300/selena-gomez-lose-you-to-love-me-five-burning-questions

I love this Billboard article praising Selena Gomez's "Lose You to Love Me" (https://www.billboard.com/articles/business/chart-beat/8541300/selena-gomez-lose-you-to-love-me-five-burning-questions)
Billboard Staffers Discuss Selena Gomez's Resounding 'Lose You to Love Me' Debut
"Lose You to Love Me," one of two new songs released by Gomez last week, debuts at No. 15 on the Hot 100. That'd be an impressive landing for the pop star in nearly any context -- the second-best chart debut of her career -- but it's especially so considering the song was released last Wednesday, meaning it had less than two full days of streams and downloads (and less than five full days of radio play) to work with in its debut frame.
What's the secret sauce with "Lose You to Love Me" that's allowed it to really detonate on impact like this, in the way that some of her other recent singles maybe haven't? Does the "Lose" debut say more about Gomez, the song, or about the Hot 100 in 2019?
Tatiana Cirisano: It says the most about Gomez. I just don’t think the same song would’ve hit as hard, or garnered as much interest, coming from anyone else but her. With its sparse piano and strings melody, “Lose” has to sell almost entirely based on its lyrics -- and it succeeds because the words are so specific to her story. For those of us who have grown up with Gomez, the whole thing feels like a satisfying heart-to-heart. (Shoutout here to Selena's talented group of co-writers, too.)
But it also says something about the Hot 100 in 2019 that a pop star can make a comeback with a barebones piano ballad and still land in the top 15.

Question:
What’s the highest position a White Female act has peaked on R&B/Urban radio, solo or otherwise, with any given song?
Lorde with “Royals”? Iggy Azealia with “Fancy”? Gwen Stefani with “Hollaback Girl”? Lisa Stansfield?
(I know several White Female artists have peaked atop the Adult-R&B charts ie. Lisa Stansfield, Teena Marie, Amy Winehouse etc.)

Btw Selena Gomez’s first chart entry was back in 2009. idk if she’ll make any record lists if she achieves her first number 1 after 10 years from her first chart entry but it’d be an interesting thing to know. (JB’s record was counted as the most chart entries till he hit number 1.. after 42 or 47 chart entries i forget. So it’s a diff record. But Selena has like 28 so whatever and Ariana had 34 till she landed number 1)

Santana holds that record by a very long mile (30 years!), but taking 10 years to achieve such a career high is still notable, I think. I can't find anything on other long waits to reach the top so far.

wtffffff you are weird 😂😂😂 Dear diary,
TIL that there are people who don't rely on charts to determine who is worthy of stanning and calling "queen." What a strange phenomenon! Did you know Carly Rae Jepsen has stans? Two hits from seven years ago and now she is a 'queen.' And to add insult to injury, several people liked his posts in agreement. As you can imagine diary, I was quite taken aback. Who are these people?! I thought this was a place of sensibility, but not only is that not the case, when I tried to make him understand he made fun of MY name and referred to himself as a legend. That is when I glanced at his profile and saw that he is a moderator. I- I am not sure where to go from here. I certainly can't go to the report button, that is for sure. Dear God Britney, save us all. wow this is a great writing you should write a book! I enjoyed reading this😄

However, they were also inactive/broken up for 6 years.

So I would definitely say "Sucker" deserves a mention in said list.

The comparison between Lose You to Love Me and Thank U, Next reminded me that there's really quite a few songs from pop stars that hit #1 with references (true or not) that it's about their celebrity exes
Miley Cyrus' Wrecking Ball Taylor Swift's first ever #1 We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together Katy Perry's #1 debut Part of Me

It's looking like Lose You to Love Me, 10,000 Hours, Memories, Good As Hell, and Trampoline are going to be future top ten mainstays. Truth Hurts, No Guidance, and Senorita will probably linger for a few more weeks. Circles has a long way to go.

I think Santana, Billy Ray, and Tina are the top three.

LYTLM gained 200K streams in Spotify (1.9M). #1 is a lock for next week but it might hold on for at least 2 weeks.

^I think it will hold up relatively well in streaming, but sales will definitely go lower but should be compensated by rises in radio. But this week might be its peak in points unless, for example, if Selena were to perform at the AMAs that give the song a boost.
