We got a Lalala remix with Carly Rae Jepsen and Enrique Iglesias for some f**kin reason, I could see it getting memed into oblivion so maybe lalala gets a second wind? just heard it and it sounds bad.

'Lalala' did not need salvaging. Because it cannot be salvaged. Not even Carly is that good. :sip2:

Lalala is a weird song for Carly to hop on. However, she is the queen therefore I am not going to question her decision making, I am merely going to stream.

See? This is what happens when Queen Carly charts again. People only remember her for her 2012 hits when her output since 2015 are the ones that was acclaimed and legitimately good.

Yeah, if you know you know.
Carly hasn't had great chart success outside of 2012 but her outputs since have been highly praised

I'm pretty sure if you were handing the title Queen of Pop to any artist purely based off chart success and sales, that title would not go to Britney Spears. She also would not have that title in a competition of quality. Overall, Britney is just not the Queen of Pop in any metric. Toxic is a good song though.

This is pretty interesting IMO. For the first six weeks, Try Again was distinctly ahead, gaining more ground overall and entering the top 20 first. But in week seven, He Wasn't Man Enough suddenly jumped to #3 because of the physical single selling 102k on its first official week of release (mentioned in Billboard's Hot 100 Highlights for the week dated 4/29/2000). TA would not enter the top ten until three weeks later - and in that short three week climb, HWME had already peaked. When TA finally hit #1, HWME had already exited the top 10, save for one brief re-entry in their 20th week.Β TA stayed ahead of HWME for 20 of its 32 weeks on the chart. The first six weeks Toni spent in the top 10 and the final six weeks of HWME's run, when its fall accelerated, were the remaining weeks where HWME was ahead. On Hot 100 Airplay, Try Again debuted and stayed ahead of HWME for 26 straight weeks, nine of those weeks at #1, but it finally fell behind the same week it fell behind HWME on the Hot 100.Β Sales no doubt contributed to Toni's slightly higher year-end points (HWME sold 600k overall), but it is interesting that in terms of longevity she also ended up outlasting Aaliyah on the airplay chart, seemingly by virtue of just not being massively played to the extent that Try Again was at its peak. Super interesting analysis! On paper, "Try Again" looks like the bigger hit but I guess those extra sales made a huge difference because "Try Again" was a significantly bigger airplay hit Itβs also worth noting that βTry Againβ topped the Hot 100 with a mere 92M listener impressions. To this date, itβs one of the airplay number-one songs with the lowest AI total since the Soundscan era started. The Hot 100 was extremely weak during the Summer of 2000, starting from the latter half of βMaria Mariaβsβ run at number one in May and numbers didnβt really pick up until late August/early September when Janet Jacksonβs βDoesnβt Really Matterβ hit number one.

Super interesting analysis! On paper, "Try Again" looks like the bigger hit but I guess those extra sales made a huge difference because "Try Again" was a significantly bigger airplay hit Well, Try Again was the first airplay-only #1 to occur on the Hot 100, so you/the paper stats aren't necessarily wrong that it was the bigger hit. It was inherently disadvantaged by the fact that other artists were still releasing singles for sale and I can't help but wonder how many more weeks it would have had at the top if there had been a physical single to accompany it. Five other songs reached #1 while Aaliyah was ruling on airplay, and all five of those singles had CD singles (while none of them topped airplay). The Romeo Must Die soundtrack sold a million+ with Try Again being the only notable hit from it, which is probably a pretty good indicator that TA would have sold pretty well on its own. Itβs also worth noting that βTry Againβ topped the Hot 100 with a mere 92M listener impressions. To this date, itβs the airplay number-one song with the lowest AI total since the Soundscan era started. The Hot 100 was extremely weak during the Summer of 2000, starting from the latter half of βMaria Mariaβsβ run at number one in May and didnβt really pick up until late August/early September when Janet Jacksonβs βDoesnβt Really Matterβ hit number one. Ultimately, I do believe βTry Againβ would have lasted longer at number one/on the Hot 100 had a CD single been issued.

Wow, that is low. βDreamloverβ got a record in 1993 with 89 million impressions, and thatβs when R&B and other genres werenβt included! It is INCREDIBLY low. Hereβs the quote from the Billboard article: βAgainβ takes advantage of the current barren singles market and large jump in audience to seize the top of a soft Hot 100 chart, gaining a solid 5.5M listeners to reach a total of 92M listener impressionsβ. The article also stated/predicted that the βnext few weeks should see several songs take the top spot given the fact that no song is currently the most dominant in airplay and sales, and that βeven the heavyweight acts are either releasing too little physical units to make large jumps to number one or their airplay numbers are laggingβ. Whatβs ironic is that βDreamloverβ would have easily crossed the 100M AI mark at the time had R&B airplay been included. The first songs to do so overall would have LIKELY been Jacksonβs βBlack Or Whiteβ which peaked with 82M AI or Houstonβs βI Will Always Love Youβ which peaked with 86M AI and that was, again, without the inclusion of R&B airplay. Adamsβ βEverything I Doβ peaked with 79M AI. brady47

To any one who doubts Our Lord and Saviour Carly Rae Jepsen, please listen to Run Away with Me, Cut to the Feeling and then listen listen to her two albums since 2012. They're a more spiritually enlightening experience than whatever Kanye's been doing.
And may the Holy Trinity of Pop Queens who Deserved Better bless you all: The Father (Carly Rae Jepsen), The Son (Lorde) and the Holy Spirit (Charli XCX). Go out in peace and spread the good word.

If I recall correctly, this is the first day of truly massive radio losses for Truth Hurts. Hopefully SeΓ±orita and SYL start plummeting similarly. I think she can hold the #1 for a long time.

Y'know Juice WRLD is such an easy punching bag for whiny emo rap that I forgot YUNGBLUD also exists and oh my God, can we please not make YUNGBLUD a thing? I'll even take Hobo Johnson over him.

Carly Rae Jepsen is like Robyn...some people only know them for their early pop chart hits and others know them more for their critically acclaimed later work. Cultivating that later fanbase is what will keep both of them from ever having to do oldies nostalgia tours playing their top ten hits.

Keeping my fingers crossed for Selena, imo it would be great if she got at least one week at #1. That would be another really strange thing happening in 2019. Also I wonder if she'll rise to #1 on Apple Music again - defeating Follow God definitely won't be easy but I think the song is able to make that happen, especially since it's still ahead of HIGHEST IN THE ROOM.
