Good As Hell might be the biggest competitor to LYTLM: It's way ahead in airplay Way closer than SYL in sales Had about 65% of the Spotify streams of LYTLM yesterday. Youtube might be the deciding factor there. Would be amazing if we saw: 15->1 14->2 in the same week That actually looks like a beautiful chart lmao Manifesting this

Lil Uzi Vert is such a HUGE Rihanna stan. 😂
The absolute taste! I need them to collaborate as soon as possible!

I thought about this too! Here's the chart run: it actually had huge longevity in the top 20 (24 weeks!), and even 20 weeks in the top 15. I do find it surprising that it outranked "Try Again" (15 weeks in the top 10, ~24 weeks in the top 20) on the year end chart (#12) 7 Weeks: Top 10 24 Weeks: Top 20 37 Weeks: Overall 63-55-48-39-35-24-3-2-2-4-4-5-11-12-16-15-14-14-12-10-11-13-13-13-15-16-14-13-17-19-23-29-37-33-34-41-48 Try Again 15 Weeks: Top 10 22 Weeks: Top 20 32 Weeks: Overall 59-53-38-28-21-18-16-14-12-10-9-8-6-*1*-2-2-2-2-3-4-5-5-6-9-13-14-16-23-22-33-36-43 What's funny is they debuted on the Hot 100 the same week. It would be interesting to see how many weeks each song was ahead of the other. It's also funny that the last chart week for "HWMEFM" was the last chart week of the 2000 chart year. Anyway "HWMEFM" held on in the top 20 longer, and it still had weeks in the top 40 when "Try Again" was no longer charting. This is pretty interesting IMO. For the first six weeks, Try Again was distinctly ahead, gaining more ground overall and entering the top 20 first. But in week seven, He Wasn't Man Enough suddenly jumped to #3 because of the physical single selling 102k on its first official week of release (mentioned in Billboard's Hot 100 Highlights for the week dated 4/29/2000). TA would not enter the top ten until three weeks later - and in that short three week climb, HWME had already peaked. When TA finally hit #1, HWME had already exited the top 10, save for one brief re-entry in their 20th week. TA stayed ahead of HWME for 20 of its 32 weeks on the chart. The first six weeks Toni spent in the top 10 and the final six weeks of HWME's run, when its fall accelerated, were the remaining weeks where HWME was ahead. On Hot 100 Airplay, Try Again debuted and stayed ahead of HWME for 26 straight weeks, nine of those weeks at #1, but it finally fell behind the same week it fell behind HWME on the Hot 100. Sales no doubt contributed to Toni's slightly higher year-end points (HWME sold 600k overall), but it is interesting that in terms of longevity she also ended up outlasting Aaliyah on the airplay chart, seemingly by virtue of just not being massively played to the extent that Try Again was at its peak.

Off-topic, but hilarious. Something happened in late September (his conscience kicking in?) that made Post almost completely scrap Circles from his tour setlist. 18 shows in October, so far, and Circles was only performed twice! And it's his biggest song right now, not some random album track. Too bad that happened because I was looking forward to hearing him play it when I saw him live earlier this month (was still an absolutely fantastic show nonetheless)

Why would Post stop performing "Circles"? I need context.

I think that could have boosted her a lot. Side note, if GAH goes #1 even for one week I will cry happy tears for Lizzo.

Has an artist ever had multiple sleeper hits go #1? Lady Gaga if you consider "Shallow" and "Just Dance" a sleeper hit (both took 22 weeks to hit #1)

Lizzo would take the cake if literally a 3 and a half year old song went number 1 while a 2 year old song already went number 1 for her

Even if Billie doesn't get another big hit, I can see her brother Finneas being a really popular producer in the 2020s

Not Maroon 5 at #2 on iTunes and top 20 on Spotify (top 10 without Kanye's album bomb). I guess they didn't need The Voice after all. Or guest rappers

On paper, "Try Again" looks like the bigger hit but I guess those extra sales made a huge difference because "Try Again" was a significantly bigger airplay hit Well, Try Again was the first airplay-only #1 to occur on the Hot 100, so you/the paper stats aren't necessarily wrong that it was the bigger hit. It was inherently disadvantaged by the fact that other artists were still releasing singles for sale and I can't help but wonder how many more weeks it would have had at the top if there had been a physical single to accompany it. Five other songs reached #1 while Aaliyah was ruling on airplay, and all five of those singles had CD singles (while none of them topped airplay). The Romeo Must Die soundtrack sold a million+ with Try Again being the only notable hit from it, which is probably a pretty good indicator that TA would have sold pretty well on its own.
