That is a very hard one.
Plausible unfavorable scenario: 16-22-off (55 weeks on chart)
Plausible favorable scenario: 16-14-11-9-9-10-10-12-14-14-18-19-22-25-25-off (69 weeks on chart)
The favorable scenario would also give it 43 weeks in the top 10.

Four weeks at #1. I wasn’t expecting WAP to be decade-end material.

This particular ranking is heavily slanted towards the top of the charts. Weeks below the top ten barely count for anything, and #1 counts for a lot.

And in the week where Billboard finally announced the nominees for the BBMAs for 2019, only 7 weeks away from the last chart to be included in next year's awards, here's the latest updates to the all-time top 10,000, for songs on this week's chart (Sep 26, 2020): Last Week | This Week | Chg | Track | Artist | Total Pts | 15 | 14 | 1 | Circles | Post Malone | 1,266,160 | 92 | 74 | 18 | Blinding Lights | The Weeknd | 1,019,392 | 522 | 436 | 86 | ROCKSTAR [DaBaby] | DaBaby and Roddy Ricch | 744,640 | 715 | 701 | 14 | Don't Start Now | Dua Lipa | 671,680 | 1108 | 1090 | 18 | Life Is Good | Future and Drake | 593,600 | 1499 | 1482 | 17 | Say So | Doja Cat featuring Nicki Minaj | 521,472 | 1623 | 1597 | 26 | Savage | Megan Thee Stallion featuring Beyonce | 503,392 | 2415 | 2228 | 187 | WHATS POPPIN | Jack Harlow , Tory Lanez & Lil Wayne | 422,112 | 2376 | 2307 | 69 | Adore You | Harry Styles | 411,920 | 2434 | 2343 | 91 | Roses (Imanbek Remix) | SAINt JHN | 408,240 | 3249 | 2999 | 250 | Watermelon Sugar | Harry Styles | 340,288 | 3712 | 3675 | 37 | The Bones | Maren Morris | 270,546 | 4363 | 3828 | 535 | WAP | Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion | 256,000 | 3959 | 3927 | 32 | Blueberry Faygo | Lil Mosey | 246,544 | 4301 | 4180 | 121 | I Hope | Gabby Barrett | 222,304 | 4660 | 4347 | 313 | Savage Love (Laxed - Siren Beat) | Jawsh 365 and Jason DeRulo | 209,344 | 5090 | 4671 | 419 | Before You Go | Lewis Capaldi | 185,488 | 4745 | 4700 | 45 | Rain On Me | Lady Gaga & Ariana Grande | 183,600 | 5998 | 5160 | 838 | Dynamite | BTS | 160,000 | 6162 | 5296 | 866 | Laugh Now, Cry Later | Drake and Lil Durk | 153,600 | 5660 | 5444 | 216 | Go Crazy | Chris Brown and Young Thug | 146,944 | 5713 | 5543 | 170 | Break My Heart | Dua Lipa | 142,640 | 6349 | 6230 | 119 | Chasin' You | Morgan Wallen | 121,152 | 6980 | 6674 | 306 | Come & Go | Juice WRLD and Marshmallo | 110,400 | 7637 | 7157 | 480 | Popstar | DJ Khaled and Drake | 98,960 | 7503 | 7440 | 63 | The Bigger Picture | Lil Baby | 93,808 | 7692 | 7581 | 111 | Cardigan [Swift] | Taylor Swift | 91,360 | 8010 | 7615 | 395 | For The Night | Pop Smoke | 90,800 | 9381 | 7651 | 1730 | Mood | 24KGoldn and Iann Dior | 89,856 | 7803 | 7666 | 137 | We Paid | Lil Baby and 42 Dugg | 89,632 | 8800 | 8688 | 112 | One Margarita | Luke Bryan | 72,896 | 9176 | 8918 | 258 | Wishing Well | Juice WRLD | 69,520 | 9933 | 9600 | 333 | Die From A Broken Heart | Maddie & Tae | 61,616 |
With 52 chart weeks and being below #25 on this week's Hot 100, this is almost certainly the last time The Bones will add points to its total. nathanalbright mentioned just above this post that the chart heavily skews to points for songs in the top 10, which is very true. So in honor of farewell to The Bones, let's see how it compares to the all-time biggest hits that never reached the top ten: # | All-Time Rank | Year | High | Track | Artist Featured | Points | 1 | 2777 | 1998 | 11 | I Don't Want To Wait | Paula Cole | 364000 | 2 | 3126 | 1973 | 16 | Why Me | Kris Kristofferson | 328160 | 3 | 3222 | 1997 | 16 | Barely Breathing | Duncan Sheik | 318180 | 4 | 3366 | 1980 | 11 | Into The Night | Benny Mardones | 170272 | 5 | 3450 | 1994 | 11 | 100% Pure Love | Crystal Waters | 293140 | 6 | 3496 | 2010 | 14 | If I Die Young | The Band Perry | 125140 | 7 | 3544 | 1997 | 11 | All For You | Sister Hazel | 283600 | 8 | 3647 | 1990 | 11 | The Humpty Dance | Digital Underground | 273120 | 9 | 3712 | 2020 | 12 | The Bones | Maren Morris | 270546 | 10 | 3693 | 1991 | 11 | Now That We Found Love | Heavy D & The Boyz | 268320 | 11 | 3728 | 1974 | 11 | One Hell Of A Woman | Mac Davis | 264960 | 12 | 3755 | 2005 | 14 | Feel Good Inc. | Gorillaz /De La Soul | 262200 | 13 | 3776 | 2013 | 17 | Sail | AWOLNATION | 244414 | 14 | 3778 | 1976 | 11 | A Little Bit More | Dr. Hook | 260200 | 15 | 3800 | 1996 | 12 | Insensitive | Jann Arden | 258180 | 16 | 3806 | 1996 | 15 | Counting Blue Cars | Dishwalla | 257800 | 17 | 3834 | 2012 | 14 | The Motto | Drake Featuring Lil Wayne | 255390 | 18 | 3842 | 1976 | 11 | Say You Love Me | Fleetwood Mac | 254960 | 19 | 3851 | 2001 | 14 | I Hope You Dance | Lee Ann Womack & Sons Of The Desert | 254120 | 20 | 3856 | 1977 | 12 | I Never Cry | Alice Cooper | 253640 |
So, among songs that never reached the weekly top ten, The Bones is... in the top ten.
And it beats Jann Arden's Insensitive for the biggest #12 hit of all time. (I know 99.99% of the general population could not care less but is this actually interesting to anyone reading?)

If I Die Young peaked at #19? I thought it peaked at #13.
I just researched and it peaked at #14. It peaked at #19 in its initial run, but it went to #14 in its second run.
Where is Teardrops On My Guitar?

Some of those songs never to hit the top ten are still legendary, and Insensitive is a real bop. I enjoyed it a lot when I was a teen *mid 90's nostalgia*.

So in honor of farewell to The Bones, let's see how it compares to the all-time biggest hits that never reached the top ten:
| | | | | | | 17 | 3834 | 2012 | 14 | The Motto | Drake Featuring Lil Wayne | 255390 |
| | | | | | |
Such a monster hit, the nostalgia. I'd like to think his album tracks that reached top 10 the past years makeup for The Motto, Headlines, All Me, Over, Tuesday, etc never reaching top 10.

In the 2000s decade end, how is Lips Of An Angel significantly lower than My Humps?
Both peaked at #3 and spent a fairly similar amount of weeks there which apparently doesn't matter much, the same amount of weeks in the top 10 (16), and a fairly similar amount of weeks on the chart. (33 for LOAA, 36 for My Humps)

I've got Circles holding steady and tanooki has it climbing a position. I think that's because we have different values for Closer by Chainsmokers. I still have Closer at #13 with 1,274,440 points and she has them with fewer. It'll straighten out next week when Circles eclipses the legendary Hey Jude by The Beatles on both our charts.

Do you even know how little weeks Hey Jude spent on the Hot 100? 19 weeks.

^Chart runs were much shorter then. I haven't checked the charts from then but I'm sure most songs didn't even manage 20 weeks.

If I Die Young peaked at #19? I thought it peaked at #13. I just researched and it peaked at #14. It peaked at #19 in its initial run, but it went to #14 in its second run. Where is Teardrops On My Guitar? I'll correct that. Thanks.
Teardrops On My Guitar finished just shy of this list at #3946 all time. Well not that close...
21 Scritti Politti | Perfect Way 22 James Arthur | Say You Won't Let Go 23 Glenn Medeiros | Nothing's Gonna Change My Love For You 24 When In Rome | The Promise 25 Tevin Campbell | Round And Round 26 Brenda K. Starr | I Still Believe 27 Andy Williams | The Hawaiian Wedding Song (Ke Kali Nei Au) 28 Taylor Swift | Teardrops On My Guitar29 The Script | Breakeven 30 Kix | Don't Close Your Eyes
Wow, The Script have two songs between 21 and 30 on that list. www.bbc.com/news/newsbeat-44223589

@gabingston: Maybe The Script should also sue Arthur for plagiarizing their chart run, too.

^Chart runs were much shorter then. I haven't checked the charts from then but I'm sure most songs didn't even manage 20 weeks. To say the least.
Between 1965 & 1969, the average #1 song spent 14 weeks on the Hot 100.
Not the average song. The average #1 song.
Only 2 songs, both from 1969 exceeded 20 weeks: Sugar Sugar by The Archies and Raindrops Keep Falling On My Head by B.J. Thomas.
Five #1 songs in that period were on the Hot 100 for a grand total of 10 weeks each. Another 14 spent only 11 weeks on and still another 14 only 12 weeks on.
Anyone calling it a simpler time needs to rethink it.

So tanooki & I are back in sync on Circles. It didn't pass Hey Jude this week but it should next week. For those who keep score, Circles is 24,305 points away from reaching the all-time top ten. This week's #17 placing on the Hot 100 got it 7,360 points. So if it stays in the top 20 for another 4 weeks, it will reach the all-time top ten.
That's no longer looking like a distant possibility.

Currently, the prediction is that Circles will only fall to 21, so sparring an album bomb the size of Scorpion or Legends Never Die, I think it'll make it

Is "Dreams" currently in the Top 10,000 — meaning, will we get to see its position change in your regular updates when it re-enters the Hot 100? It sure is. Currently at #1491, if it enters at #30 on next week's chart as has been predicted, it will move to #1469. I'd love to know if Jump recharts the week following, but I have my doubts. Acts who die on a weekend stand a better chance of re-charting, otherwise the posthumous sales get split between weeks. Which leads to a ghoulish, but interesting question: when, eventually, (and may it be well into the future) Paul McCartney, Elton John and Stevie Wonder die (I figure those are the 3 biggest living acts in pop today), what songs by them will have the biggest post-mortem sales? I figure Yesterday for McCartney, Your Song for Elton, and either Superstition or I Just Called to Say I Love You for Stevie. Not their best tracks, in some cases by a long shot, but the tracks that will most impact the charts.

^Mostly agree on the latter point, although I see Candle in the Wind 1997 getting it for Elton John since it was a tribute song for him that most people above a certain age will certainly remember.

Okay, new ghoulish question: what artist is going to have a hit rewriting “Candle in the Wind” to make it about Elton John when he dies?
