If Butter didn't exist, my guess is that G4u probably spends 9 weeks at #1. G4u was definitely vulnerable in Week 10, losing a considerable amount of points that week and barely beating out Levitating for the #2 spot in real life. If Butter doesn't exist, that battle would have been for #1, and I doubt Dua's team knowing that a #1 was realistically in reach, would have passed up on the last opportunity to get Levitating there, especially after the way it was blocked 10 weeks earlier.

If we look at a world where Butter doesn't exist, or at least never charts higher than g4u, then g4u would have 988240 points by Billboard's GOAT formula (it ended up with 857040 in real life). That would be good 4 placing 95th on the all-time list, immediately below SYT, instead of being all the way down at 227th.

It still wouldn't be in the top 100 for long.

This doesn't take into account the week where g4u was #2 behind Permission To Dance - if we do the same thing there, g4u ends up with 1004240 points, which would put it at 83rd all time.

Let's say that instead of G4u getting at 10th week at #1, Dua's team pulls all the stops to get it to #1 that week. So, in that world without Butter or PTD, Levitating's run from Weeks 34-43 would be 3 - 2 - 2 - 2 - 2 - 3 - 2 - 3 - *1* - 4 instead of 4 - 3 - 3 - 3 - 3 - 4 - 3 - 4 - 3 - 5. In addition, Levitating's position in Week 48 (when Butter returned to #1 in real life) would have been 7 instead of 8. Would this adjusted run been enough to get Levitating into the Top 10 of the all-time chart?

If Levitating had only been #2 in the week that you think it could've gotten the #1 (7/31/21), it would only have 1316464 points, putting it at #11 all-time.

A week at #1 is pretty much a week in the top 10. Its 41 weeks there is definitely incredible enough.

This week's Crazy Chart: The biggest song in history to include a day of the week in the title. No love for Wednesday or Thursday. Odin & Thor must be ticked.

It still wouldn't be in the top 100 for long. Still quite an achievement to place that high. A week at #1 is pretty much a week in the top 10. Its 41 weeks there is definitely incredible enough. A bonus week in the top 100 you mean.

I think what plankton is trying to say is that the gap between a week at #1 and a week at #2 is about the same amount of points as a week at #10.

Yeah, that's what I meant. BB needs to revise those margins between #1 and #2 in light of BTS. (Not to mention other examples of "juicing up" chart positions in the past, such as low price singles.)
Good 4 U was basically "Keep On Lovin' You" by REO Speedwagon in reverse.

Good 4 U was basically "Keep On Lovin' You" by REO Speedwagon in reverse. Why would they change the all-time point system because of a singular incident? They simply should've changed mass-buying rules and Olivia would've had those weeks at #1. They didn't. That's in the past. No need to now make adjustments on the all-time chart for its run to look better. They had the opportunity to do so in real time.

There needs to be smoothing with the Top 4, as well as the 9-12 positions. The fact that a week at #1 is worth more than 5 times as much as a week at #11 is ridiculous.

If you want to make the decade-ends similar to the original ones from the 1980s and 1990s, I would say give a song 150,000 points for each week at #1, before multipliers. (and maybe even change the score for every week at #2.)

By the way, Shivers is now Ed Sheeran's fifth track in the top 1000 of all-time. It's now bigger than I Don't Care? Yep. Here are his songs in the top 10000 by Billboard's GOAT method: 11. Shape Of You, 1307760 64. Perfect, 1048912 188. Bad Habits, 888080 257. Thinking Out Loud, 833867 989. Shivers, 616160 1385. I Don't Care, 540000 4202. Don't, 224485 4681. Photograph, 188496 5438. Beautiful People, 149700 5639. The A Team, 141804 5839. Castle On The Hill, 134608 6396. Sing, 118949 8889. Bam Bam, 71920 By my aGOAT method, incidentally, the ordering at the top goes SOY, Perfect, TOL, Bad Habits, IDC, and then Shivers.

I'm kind of interesting in seeing which songs ended up decade-end hits that have other charting versions of them.
Because I can name so many of them in my chart (proportions), like La La La and Burning Down The House. Oddly, I do not have ATC's version of the former or Talking Heads' version of the latter as decade-end hits!

Straight covers will be rare, except maybe a Christmas track or two. But heavily sampled older hits will be present, like Big Energy (Tom Tom Club's Genius of Love, then the same sample used in Mariah Carey's Emotions Fantasy) and First Class (Fergie's Glamourous).

I am now officially a senior citizen. Get the hell off my lawn. For the chart week ending July 16, 2022, here's how the increasingly mythical top 10,000 would be impacted. | | Chg | Title | Artist | | 4 | 4 | 0 | Stay | The Kid LAROI & Justin Bieber | 1,466,000 | 26 | 24 | 2 | Heat Waves | Glass Animals | 1,199,776 | 180 | 171 | 9 | Bad Habits | Ed Sheeran | 898,480 | 974 | 956 | 18 | Shivers | Ed Sheeran | 623,840 | 1365 | 1110 | 255 | As It Was | Harry Styles | 592,000 | 1491 | 1466 | 25 | Super Gremlin | Kodak Black | 527,872 | 2201 | 1963 | 238 | First Class | Jack Harlow | 459,200 | 2144 | 2105 | 39 | Ghost | Justin Bieber | 441,744 | 2358 | 2184 | 174 | Big Energy | Latto | 430,656 | 2887 | 2841 | 46 | Cold Heart (PNAU Remix) | Elton John & Dua Lipa | 361,728 | 2900 | 2877 | 23 | Thats What I Want | Lil Nas X | 358,480 | 3253 | 3213 | 40 | Enemy | Imagine Dragons X JID | 323,104 | 3561 | 3311 | 250 | Wait For U | Future ft. Drake & Tems | 313,600 | 3778 | 3739 | 39 | Woman | Doja Cat | 268,480 | 4204 | 3867 | 337 | About Damn Time | Lizzo | 256,480 | 4262 | 3958 | 304 | Running Up That Hill (A Deal With God) | Kate Bush | 248,400 | 5354 | 4827 | 527 | Me Porto Bonito | Bad Bunny & Chencho Corleone | 178,560 | 5912 | 5670 | 242 | Wasted On You | Morgan Wallen | 141,152 | 6737 | 6343 | 394 | Titi Me Pregunto | Bad Bunny | 120,000 | 8628 | 7153 | 1475 | Jimmy Cooks | Drake ft. 21 Savage | 101,120 | 8341 | 7895 | 446 | Late Night Talking | Harry Styles | 87,360 | 8395 | 8044 | 351 | Boyfriend | Dove Cameron | 84,304 | 8682 | 8335 | 347 | Moscow Mule | Bad Bunny | 79,440 | 8940 | 8438 | 502 | Numb Little Bug | Em Beihold | 78,064 | 8673 | 8581 | 92 | Bam Bam | Camila Cabello ft. Ed Sheeran | 76,016 | 9430 | 8783 | 647 | Glimpse Of Us | Joji | 73,280 | 9488 | 9262 | 226 | Sweetest Pie | Megan Thee Stallion & Dua Lipa | 67,040 |
Stay is currently 24,260 points behind #3 song, Smooth. It earned 7,860 points this week, so unless it moves up it will be about 4 weeks before it climbs, assuming it stays in the top 25 that long.
Heat Waves is 25,569 points away from getting into the top 20, and as it's still in the top ten it's adding 23,360 this week, so it's likely to reach the top 20 in the next two weeks. If so, it will become the 4th song since 2020 to make it to the all-time top 20.

I thought it was Fantasy, not Emotions.

Another in my occassional "crazy charts" series. (Hit me if you have suggestions.) This time the biggest "Summer" hits of all time, regardless of when they charted.
Here's a link if you want to hear the songs.
And here's the data:
Rank | Artist - Song | Total Points | H P | Peak Yr. | 28 | Percy Faith And His Orchestra | The Theme From "A Summer Place" | 1,160,964 | 1 | 1960 | 1123 | The Lovin' Spoonful | Summer In The City | 589,390 | 1 | 1966 | 1303 | Richard Marx | Endless Summer Nights | 554,760 | 2 | 1988 | 1428 | D.J. Yep, the two versions of Cruel Summer are right next to each other. Two versions of Summertime Blues are both close (and a third version by The Who would have been listed if I did this chart last year), as are two each of In The Summertime & Theme from "A Summer Place". The songs titled Summer, Summertime, The Boys of Summer and Summer Nights are same title, different tunes.
