^Thanks, rockg. :)
"Do They Know It's Christmas" was an exception during the Hot 100 holiday-ban era.

Small difference I found -- my database shows 2 artist credits for Drake yours doesn't have. Rick Ross Featuring Wale & Drake Metro Boomin Featuring Offset & Drake My point total for him is now is slightly below 16,622,000 as of this week (barely 3k difference). Excellent catch! I didn't extend a calculated field on a number of cases where the 2nd featured act had relatively small points, but that been corrected now and reuploaded now. Drake was among those acts.
Thank you so much!!
The main thing that also is going to cause different rankings/points for your list is remix crediting is not appropriately aligned. Britney, Nicki, Beyonce, Ariana, etc have remixing credits that alternated throughout chart runs.

So here you go. If I've missed even a minor Chistmas hit, let me know, and I'll add it in!

iHype.: Yep. Probably the biggest benefactor is Dua Lipa, biggest loser Da Baby, due to his loss of feature status on Levitating. But it would be a mammoth task to adjust that on individual charts.

Underneath The Tree by Kelly Clarkson I shall add that tonight. I'm also going to try to incorporate the Billboard All Time Christmas Top 100 which seems to include a lot of the missing years and several carols that never got to the Hot 100. Trans-Siberean Orchestra, anyone?
ETA: Underneath the Tree has been added. As have Hallelujah and Do You Want To Build A Snowman? I don't think of either of those as Holiday songs, but they made the Billboard Christmas list.

I disagree with the .75 for 2022. I think it should at the very least be a x0.8, which it was in 2021. Why doesn't 2021 share its x0.8 with an adjacent year? 2020's x0.75 is low for that as well! Disagree because of just one song: Blinding Lights? Maybe it was worthy of being #1! I know you're all about balancing out the years, so Blinding Lights should have a bigger lead over The Twist. I have a feeling Billboard will change 2022's multiplier to a x0.8 and then assign higher multipliers to the coming couple years ahead, and this is how the 2020s cutoff might significantly be raised. Billboard is using x0.75 for 2022 based on their current calibration. And it makes sense given that they gave 2019-2020 a x0.75 rating. Also, using x0.80 for 2022 would feel wrong anyways considering 2022 is objectively a much slower-paced year than 2017. And they only used x0.80 for 2021 to make Blinding Lights #1 on the GOAT List. Otherwise it would also be x0.75. Giving 2021 a x0.8 because of one song is not quite what I would've done. I think 2017 should have a higher multiplier than x0.8. So many songs in the top 10 year-end are not even in the top 1250 of all time! 2015 and 2016 have x0.85 and these two seem stronger.

plankton5165: The intention of the selected multipliers and dates by people like me and tanooki is not to provide fairness, but match the factors that Billboard themselves use. We derive them by comparing where recent songs appear on partial all-time lists Billboard publishes from time to time. For example, the recent list of the biggest UK acts' hits during Queen Elizabeth's reign. By comparing where As It Was and Heat Waves placed to where we expected them to be.

I think Billboard's intention was to provide fairness. You'll notice that there is only one song in the GOAT from 1985 to 1989! Why do you think is that? I don't think 2022 is getting a x0.75 unless the average weeks in the top 10 of the 6th to 10th biggest hits is at least 18.8, which would still make a x0.8 very much usable.

I've also been extremely resistant to counting Pentatonix's "Hallelujah" as a Christmas song, but I've noticed over the years that its Spotify streams absolutely behave like those of any other holiday hit — dormant most of the year, with an uptick in November and a bigger uptick after Thanksgiving. The consumers have spoken — that particular version of this non-Christmas song is a Christmas tradition.

You'll notice Elton John and Mariah Carey there, but their careers originated in the 20th century. You might think Drake should be the highest-ranking artist you see in the table.
Elton John first had a year-end hit in the top 100 in 1972 with Rocket Man. He last did so in 1998 with Candle In The Wind 1997, a tribute to our now present British king's ex-wife.
Mariah Carey had already had her first year-end hits in 1990. The last time she had a hit in the year-end, other than with AIWFCIY, was 2013. The single from then being #beautiful, which featured Miguel.
Drake already had year-end hits at the time, beginning in 2009 with Best I Ever Had.

So. Much. To correct!
Primarily, the artist list is ALL-TIME, so the year artists first had hits are irrelevant.
Rocket Man was Elton's SIXTH appearance on the Hot 100. He's had 3 other Hot 100 appearances on the Hot 100 just in the 20th century. And two top ten tracks this year!

Rocket Man was Elton's SIXTH appearance on the Hot 100. He's had 3 other Hot 100 appearances on the Hot 100 just in the 20th century. And two top ten tracks this year! I was referring to artists that are in their GOAT list that added to their points in the most recent issue. And yes, Rocket Man was not his first appearance on the Hot 100, but it was his first appearance on the year-end! Keep in mind I said year-end. And Elton John did put out hits in 2022, but there is no year-end for that year yet, so they still haven't appeared in a year-end. His latest year-end hit is still Candle In The Wind 1997, so he still hasn't been on the year-end since 1998. Again, I said year-end, though this is probably going to change this year, but since there isn't a year-end for then now, it hasn't quite yet. What I was pointing out is that while Mariah Carey was putting out fresh year-end hits, so was Elton John and Drake! You guys are acting like I did not even say year-end. I certainly did not hear of that at 11! I was 12 when I first heard of the Hot 100, and 13 when I started following it!

Could Brenda Lee pip Mariah to #1 next week??? That would be amazing! Oy, the records that would be set! Oldest female, oldest solo, oldest song, longest time from #2 to #1, longest span of #1 hits by any act, longest time between #1 songs for any act.

I created a thread called Ultimate All-Time Chistmas Hits, but it got moved to the Holiday Songs forum where it is likely to gather dust but not likes. I'm reprinting it here, with updates from this week's chart. The chart is a combination of: - Billboard Hot 100 points using the same G.O.A.T. method I use on my top 10,000.
- Billboard Best Bets for Xmas charts, published 1963-73 and again 1983-85. These varied in length from over 20 songs to as few as 3. I scored these by taking the last week of the chart each year and assigning points equal to the same position on the Hot 100 in that year.
- Billboard All-Time Holiday Chart, a GOAT list covering 2011-21. I assign points here by copying the points for the same position on the Hot 100 songs.
Clearly not perfectly scientific and I'd love to get data covering 1974-82 and 1986-2000, but aside from a very few songs in those years that snuck onto the Hot 100 (Eagles Please Come Home For Christmas, Band Aid Do They Know It's Christmas) these remain major gaps in our knowledge of Holiday Hits. If anyone know of a legit source for those years on the US charts, PM me! So from the start of the Hot 100 in 1958 until the Dec 3, 2022 chart, here's my estimate of the

Here's something a bit different that I hope you'll be interested in. Every year we talk about which songs get lost on the year-end Top 100 year-end charts. Usually because the song charted late in the year and didn't get enough points in either year or had a short chart run peaking in the mid-November and December charts that didn't get included in those lists for years. Well, here's a list of the biggest all-time hits to never chart on a year-end Top 100. The list is inclusive of 1960 to 1999. If there's interest I'll do a separate chart for 2000-2021.
The "YE Rank" is where the song would have ended up if the GOAT algorithm was used for the full chart run of all songs that year. There are some absolute stone classics on this list. Yesterday. Good Vibrations.
Rank | Peak Yr. | YE Rank | Artist | Song | Points | H P | 1 | 1962 | 3 | The 4 Seasons | Big Girls Don't Cry | 875,908 | 1 | 2 | 1970 | 4 | The Partridge Family Starring Shirley Jones ft. I think Shower Me With Your Love actually did make the year-end. If I remember correctly, it did.

^Yes. #75 for the 1989 YE Hot 100. Also, Bad Boy and Life in a Northern Town both made the 1986 YE at #78 and #79. The YE chart for those years was actually called the Top Pop Singles.

Plankton5165 and Yoda: Thanks, I'll update after confirmation. I'm also adding a column for Cashbox year end positions.

Well, based on some of the songs' year-end positions, 2017 should also have a higher multiplier than x0.8. 2022 doesn't even seem that much slower-paced. I think it's going to get a x0.8, and 2023 might get a higher multiplier than that. Not that TW even matters, but First Class, one of the stronger hits, only charted for 28 weeks, and About Damn Time is about to leave after 32. And making 2021 a x0.8 year because of Blinding Lights is not the kind of thing I would've done because that would be bias. And in order to do that, why would they give that to 2021? 2020 was the year that seemed to need a higher multiplier, and that it was #1.

No not really.
First, it is super obvious Billboard was trying to get Blinding Lights to be #1 on the GOAT List. There is a literal 6K points difference between the songs. And given that 99+% of the people that follow Billboard charts just don't care at all about the exact methodology used for this chart (I certainly didn't until a few years ago), why should Billboard care if a handful of people know that the top 2 are very close?
Oh, and if you want to know why it was 2021 that got the boost and not 2020, Billboard released a Greatest Of All Time Songs of the Summer chart in summer 2021 that used a x0.75 multi for summer 2019 and 2020. (No one caught this until long after the 2021 chart was released). So the multi for those years was basically locked and thus they made x0.80 2021 to boost Blinding Lights. And it seems awfully convenient they made the change on a particular week to make Blinding Lights barely #1.
And if you think "well they could've changed it for other reasons", remember that Billboard loves clout and having a new #1 on their All-Time List gives them that. They will love the clicks they will get once All I Want For Christmas Is You becomes the #1 some years from now.
Also, the x0.75 multi for 2022 matches their most recent calibration so that is what everyone is using. Not to mention Q1 and even Q3 this year was literally dead with almost the same top 10 every week. In addition, we literally had three songs (Stay, Heat Waves, & As It Was) break longevity records and you want to tell me that 2022 isn't slower-paced? Ok then.
First Class was frontloaded and About Damn Time isn't even in the top 10 on the year-end, so not sure why the number of weeks those songs charted means much.

Stay is from 2021, not 2022.
As for Heat Waves and As It Was, these are just two songs.
As It Was spent 15 weeks at #1. One Sweet Day was #1 for 16 in an era that has a x1.0 multiplier!
Also, I thought it was year-end points that counted towards the top Songs of the Summer, not decade-end points.

Not sure why you're saying Stay is from 2021 when it broke the longevity records in 2022. Also, isn't Heat Waves from 2020?
And as for "these are just two songs", they're from the same year. An average of <2 songs per year should be making the all-time list if it is 100 songs and it spans over 60 years. You're expecting 2 songs this year to make the top 10 on the all-time list and that is just unrealistic.
And no, I'm not talking about just weeks spent at #1 when I say As It Was broke records. One Sweet Day may have had 16 weeks at #1 but that doesn't make it not frontloaded. As It Was has more weeks spent in the top 3 than One Sweet Day has on the chart.
I shouldn't even have to address the last one. Why should a Greatest Of All Time Songs of the Summer chart use year-end points? That's like saying the Greatest Of All Time Hot 100 List uses year-end points and it doesn't.
