Surprised to see so much Everything I Wanted hate in this thread.. Iβve seen a really warm reception everywhere else and I think itβs stunning. I could easily see it hitting #1 in the next few weeks especially considering how weak the charts are at the moment

Anyone know how many weeks βPaniniβ has been in the top 10 now? So much for Lil Nas X being a one hit wonder.

Lil Nas X can still end up being remembered for just one song, just like Vanilla Ice who has two top ten hits, or come and go fast like Taio Cruz who has two massive hits but disappeared after two years.
Too early to tell.

Too early to tell. Being a chart watcher this is my BIGGEST pet peeve. Especially when I used to watch those VH1 1 Hit Wonder show's. Half the artists used to have 2 hits like "MarkY Mark" "Good Vibrations" wasn't his only hit. There was also "Wildside"... lol

I could easily see it hitting #1 in the next few weeks especially considering how weak the charts are at the moment I'm kind of fine with the hate. It reminds me a bit of other underrated artists that started slow like Dua Lipa: when they're struggling and getting no hits everyone loves them... once the haters start appearing, you know it's because they've finally made it. I like the track FWIW. I didn't expect her to completely go for the banger / "bad guy" easy hits. It's very much on the same vein as "when the party's over", "lovely" or "xanny".

Some people here on the pulse are very quick to call Lil Nas X a one hit wonder, I'd rather wait what he will do in 2020 to draw my conclusions.

Lil Nas X strikes me as the sort of gimmick-y act that won't last long. But hey, he already has two big hits, anything could happen.

If anything, I feel like Lil Nas X will be like Fetty Wap. 3 big hits before completely falling off the face of the earth. But I guess he has some sort of a personality, so maybe heβd be able to still rack up some minor hits

Looks like you can probably forget about Beautiful Ghosts charting. Must be a first for Taylor. All the drama completely overshadowed it. Iβm quite surprised it didnβt even go Top 3 on iTunes.. what was the last Taylor promo track/new release to miss iTunes Top 3 (outside of album bomb weeks of course!)?

I really do wonder how long the current ¨weakness¨ of the charts is going to last. No current charting song seems or sounds like the next multiple-week #1.

Well it's a career move!
Seriously though, in the UK for instance, LNX has so far charted three times, at #1, #21 and #55 (Rodeo). It's a long way to go for him if he's going to stabilise his status in the industry.

Imagine though if the future in the Panini music video comes true. Lil Nas X as our ruler.

When will chart watchers realize that OHW status is more about perception and cultural impact NOT actual chart performance.

This is why I think Lil Nas will end up being considered a OHW (its still early but...). Panini is doing well on the charts currently sure, but I don't see it having any cultural impact longterm and in the future.

Khalid's new track seems to be a big flop. Is it promoted as a single?

95% of chart hits have no impact beyond the year after they were first a hit. By this logic far more artists should be considered one (or no-) hit wonders. Mariah has 28 top 10s; can you name all of them without pulling up her discography? And if you can't, does that mean she doesn't actually have 28 top 10 hits? The argument about perception should reasonably fall apart when it becomes apparent that other people have a different perception from your own, and there's not really anything that makes your perception the superior POV other than your own ego and refusal to acknowledge that hey, maybe you were not correct about something.
What about the hits that were forgotten and then randomly revived decades later? I'm pretty sure once the '80s passed, no one was thinking about Never Gonna Give You Up until 4chan turned it into a meme. Are you really going to let 4chan of all things determine your perception of reality?! Not to mention (no shade to anyone meant by this), a lot of chart watchers now were either not born or very, very young when many of the artists in question were around, and many of the older chart watchers who are still around tend to lose base with what is current as time marches on and they become disinterested in new trends. My recollection of things is naturally going to be quite different from that of someone 20 years younger than I am; that is to be expected and completely ok.
I will stick with recorded stats because written history is the only way we have to verify whether or not something truly 'happened.' Even that is a bit shaky, but it's better than creating these perception wars which can never be resoloved.
Now, I think a better argument would be whether songs that hit the top 10 in week one and then disappear in less than a month or two should be considered hits. There has to be a balance of peak and longevity IMO for a song to be considered a true hit. Album bombs and less sustaining viral trends muddy the waters. But that isn't usually an issue for anyone pre-2012, and I would say that after two+ months in the top 10 alone, it's not the case for LNX now.

Lil Nas X will still have people's attention for a while, he plans to release an album next year, maybe he gets one more hit. He is very good with hooks and has an amazing ability to generate content with his songs. I just think people here kind of hope he is an OHW and maybe he will become, every new artist is subject to this, especially with the expectations after a big debut single. But I really root for him, he has a very fun personality.

The general public doesnβt follow charts, so yes it has everything to do with perception. Im not saying itβs correct or not, but thats the reason why some artists are considered OHW even if they had a smaller less remembered hit. That Mariah example also doesnβt make sense because 1. I may be wrong, but I donβt think there was any one particular song early in her career that she was known for much more than any other. And 2. People who are known as one hit wonders dont typically have 28 top 10s over 20+ some years....

After listening to all the new tracks for this week, I like the most edible ones. Harry Styles - Watermelon Sugar and Train/Skylar Grey - Mai Tais !!!
Indulge in them.

Khalid's new track seems to be a big flop. Is it promoted as a single? I believe so, but it may be retaliation to Talk being one of the most annoyingly overplayed songs in recent memory, I donβt know a single person who can stand that song any more. At least Truth Hurts was good enough to at least n it get the retaliation that Khalid seems to be receiving
