When Miranda Lambert, Luke Dick and Natalie Hemby wrote “Bluebird” a little more than 18 months ago, they had no idea the uplifting song about looking toward the light even in the darkest of times would provide a salve during a global pandemic. And Lambert certainly didn’t expect that it would become her first solo No. 1 on Billboard’s Country Airplay chart since 2012’s “Over You.” It goes to show how bad country radio was to the women of country radio 18 months ago (and still is despite it getting slightly better). Miranda, "had no idea," this song would help during a global pandemic but, certainly didn't expect that it would go to #1. I read that as, Miranda was thinking it was more likely for a global pandemic to happen than for her to get to #1. ** I get the author probably worded this wrong, but the way radio treats women, maybe not.

To be fair a global pandemic was probably just a matter of time, but a real change in country radio's treatment of women was far from likely.
I am so happy for Miranda and especially with this song, as it is my favourite from Wildcard!

Gotta love this week in country music. Miranda Lambert tops the singles chart while the Chicks top the album chart.

19 Somethin' Bad 20 Mama's Broken Heart 26 Bluebird26 We Were Us**28 The House That Built Me 32 Drowns the Whiskey**35 Automatic 35 Over You 38 White Liar 44 Heart Like Mine 44 Baggage Claim 47 Vice 47 Fastest Girl in Town **if we include her duet hits. Beautiful to see it reach such a high peak on the Hot 100 for her! If it weren't for a bunch of the 'album bomb' effects on the chart rn, it probably would've been a little higher, too.

The Hot 100 chart rarely feels like it accurately reflects how big a song is ("Catch" comes to mind...). Of course I'm thrilled this song is in the top 30 on the Hot 100, but is it really bigger than THTBM or Over You? Not that it even totally matters. Just interesting.

Or that it shows Something Bad as her biggest hit. Didn't it peak at like #9 or #10 at radio?

She put out a new performance music video for the acoustic "Bluebird" yesterday:

"Settling Down" is being featured on a few Spotify playlists including Next from Nashville which features buzzy songs as well as newer singles... She is really making us guess at this point.

I could see it being “Settling Down” as she sang that at the Thanksgiving Parade. It’s one of my favorites but the production is a little off.

"Settling Down" is one of my faves on the record and I'd love it as a single, but I'm not sure I see it as one of the strongest follow-ups to "Bluebird." It feels a little samey to that one in terms of tempo and stuff, but OTOH it is another really hopeful, breezy song and has some of the most quotable lyrics on the entire record imo. The "should I look for rainbows, or wait for the rain?" line strikes such a chord with me.

Tequila Does has got to be next! It’s the only thing I can see as a definite smash. I’d like to see her follow that up with Mess With My Head, which could be hit or miss. Honestly most songs on this album seem radio friendly to me, but it HAS TO BE Tequila Does!

my guess is they're saving TD for spring/summer & a business thing she's waiting to announce. Especially with the overhaul of drinking songs out rn.

I think "Tequila Does" would work better as a fourth single as well due to the seasonal timing, so I agree. I could see it being much bigger next year when it is climbing during the warmer months.

The fact that THTBM spent a month atop the charts should easily lay to rest any discussions about it not being the biggest hit of her career.
Looking forward to her next single, whatever it may be.
