I really hope Cardigan becomes a big hit, it’s a great song. And that new Maroon 5 song… 🙄🙄🙄

With all these new album bombs and releases, as well as potential ones to come in the future, is it safe to say Blinding Lights is the new favourite for #1 on the 2020 year end list? Although I don't think The Box will go recurrent just yet, I just don't see it lasting all the way till the end of the charting year. Even if it somehow does, Blinding Lights might still be ahead of it due to the current massive point gap between both songs.

Further update: Only hours later Cardigan is down to #2 outsold almost 2 to 1 by Blake Shelton.
We'll have to see how it does on Spotify & radio tomorrow.

How has Blake Shelton who has always been good at selling never had a top 10 hit?

I guess probably a lot of the buyers are opting to buy or stream Folklore instead.

How has Blake Shelton who has always been good at selling never had a top 10 hit? He’s not really a crossover type of country artist. Heck, how many country artists have made the top 10 of the Hot 100 without crossing over to CHR? I can’t even think of any. I know Luke Combs made it to #11 with “Even Though I’m Leaving” after his album release last year.

How has Blake Shelton who has always been good at selling never had a top 10 hit? Sales is these days such a small portion of total points, it's not a significant factor. He needs more streams and crossover radio and he's too old for pop stations.

Do you believe that "Cardigan" can make it to the YE? It's being pushed to radio on the day of release. That's a good sign for sustained chart life if radio picks it up.
Cardigan on iTunes was #12 after only being out for less than 4 hours. Should be getting another update very shortly (on kworb.net). Wouldn't be surprised to see it go to #1.
Update: Yep, it's #1 on iTunes according to kworb.
The one thing that I hope won't cause Cardigan Hot 100 chart run to get caught between year-ends is that by the time it debuts it would only 14 weeks total remaining to make it assuming a 52 week chart year. I would hate that what happened to Lover happens to it. Hard to believe we are starting to get close to the cut off.

How has Blake Shelton who has always been good at selling never had a top 10 hit? Sales are almost completely irrelevant they usually account for like 10% of a song's points and at most you'll have 1 week of actual huge sales before they quickly fall off like Me or If I Can't Have You
Given how close together the top 10 usually is sales can oftentimes have an influence on the order of the top 10 but for a country artist who's never gonna do well on spotify it's impossible that a couple days of good sales would push him up into the top 10 (Now if he were to do a Justin Bieber collab then maybe he'd have the streaming support to get there)

I feel like the worst I can see Cardigan's run doing is something similar to either THE SCOTTS, Stuck With U, or Rain On Me. Huge debut and gradually fading, just enough for it to clinch at the bottom half of the yearend. But I hope it'll do much better since this is a damn great song. Of course this is just gut feel at this point.

since Beer Can't Fix stayed on the chances of it making the year end have gone from 0% (if it had dropped out this week) to like 1% (if it drops out next week), so nothing too significant, but I still bring it up because it slightly increases my confidence that it will be able to make it to 20 weeks in which case it would be on the borderline around the same spot as I Don't Care, and even if it just stays on for one more week it will have a very very very slight chance Beer Can't Fix will probably last for one more week, and then drop out the week after due to a potential Logic album bomb. Correction: Taylor Swift album bomb.

If BL and Circles end up as the YE top 2, personally, I can’t think of a year with a stronger YE top 2.

Blinding Lights, Circles, AND The Box are all incredible songs and will make for one of the best YE top 3s in a very long time.

Lil Baby is gonna have Woah, Sum 2 Prove, We Paid, probably Emotionally Scarred, and hopefully The Bigger Picture all on the year end list. He’s totally killing 2020!

Man the charts never fail to baffle me. Just as there were discussions that the cutoff could be even lower this year, a bunch of new potential late entries pop out of nowhere this month. The question of where the final cutoff will be is still very much variable, and we'll just have to see where this year takes us.

We're close to breaking the record for most top 10 debuts in a single year. 2018 had 40 overall, and we're already at 22 and the DJ Khaled songs + the folklore album bomb next week are surely going to add more.

All these new songs entering the charts is gonna prevent Break My Heart from entering the top 10.

All these new songs entering the charts is gonna prevent Break My Heart from entering the top 10. Break My Heart could still make it into the Top 10, especially now that it's Top 5 on radio. It'll probably end up like Youngblood and finally crack the Top 10 late into it's run.
