Week 15 - 02/29/2020
Just a quick note - from now on, I'll be basing my playlists on a mix of Tanooki's predictions and my own. I trust their numbers to be more accurate than my own (which is a weighted inverse point system based on numbers by rimetm's last year's predictions). As such, you might see a few oddities in my breakdown this week, though those should be solved next week.
Current Status (175.000 points to be considered "locked", 100.000 points to be added to the playlist)
New songs: Roddy Ricch ft. Mustard - High Fashion Kane Brown - Homesick The Black Eyed Peas X J Balvin - RITMO (Bad Boys For Life)
Drop-outs: None, though I elected not to add Futsal Shuffle 2020, Playing Games and Heat, despite them crossing the 100.000 mark in Tanooki's predictions, as they've already dropped out. They'll be added should they re-enter.
Locked this week: blackbear - Hot Girl Bummer Maren Morris - The Bones Future ft. Drake - Life Is Good Mariah Carey - All I Want For Christmas Is You (the main "oddity" this week, I had it about 30.000 points too low) Jonas Brothers - Only Human
Might lock next week: Trevor Daniel - Falling (Very probable) The Weeknd - Blinding Lights (Safe)
Lowest locked song: Jonas Brothers - Only Human
Predictions (Must have 175.000 points or more after 10 weeks in the same position)
Added this week: Mariah Carey - All I Want For Christmas Is You Doja Cat - Say So H.E.R. ft. YG - Slide Jimmie Allen - Make Me Want To Rod Wave - Heart On Ice
Drop-outs this week: None. Even though technically Even Though I'm Leaving has not crossed the 175.000 point mark, it's close enough I'll still include it (same with Heart On Ice)

I swear, if "I Don't Care" and/or "Sucker" make the Year-End over "Even Though I'm Leaving" and even "Hot", you can bet I'll be tanking them on the 2020 Year-End rankdown out of pure spite.
At least "Yummy" peaked and had the majority of its run during this chart year, so it's a legit, valid 2020 hit.

Out of ALL the 2019 hits that couldโve repeated, why did we pick those 2 to give a chance to repeat. It makes no sense and they both overstayed their welcome (theyโre not that amazing america)

Y'know I was about to complain about the lack of new Top 10 songs so far this year but I was surprised how little new activity there had also been in years such as 2015, 2017, and 2019. And given how chaotic and weird all three years ended up being, I'm actually curious what weird oddities occur this year. A non single has topped the charts for almost 2 months, The Black Eyed Peas get a Top 40 hit, All I Want for Christmas Is You hits #1, blackbear gets a Top 20 hit, Maren Morris gets a Top 20 hit, BROCKHAMPTON enter the charts for the first time ever, Lil Nas and Actual Nas collab, a song called Pussy Fairy hits the charts, a no name singer from Australia with one of the strangest voices I've ever heard from a professional singer hits Top 5 here and #1 close to everywhere else, including Australia for a record breaking 24 goddamn weeks. Did I miss anything?

On the 12/7 Hot 100 it was already off the hot 100 and there were only six christmas songs so its natural position would have been at best #45. Then it returns in January at 29 and is still hanging around the top 40 right now? That don't make no god damn sense

for YNW Melly I find it funny that Suicidal, a song next to nobody cares about, is pretty much set to make the YE (assuming it doesn't keep falling the way that it did this week and end up like Marshmello/CHVRCHES's Here with Me last year) while 223's, a song with a massive TikTok dance trend and one that most people probably know, got caught between years

I have the song at around 1600 points if it only lasts 3 more weeks and 1680 points if it lasts only 4, which is just short of last year's cutoff.

Potential Repeats from the 2019 Year-End List - Week 15 (February 29th, 2020)
LOCKED Circles Someone You Loved Senorita No Guidance Truth Hurts Trampoline bad guy Panini Only Human (locked this week)
VERY LIKELY N/A
LIKELY I Don't Care Sucker
POSSIBLE N/A
UNLIKELY N/A
VERY UNLIKELY N/A
OUT: None
And then there were two. Provided there aren't any unusual circumstances, IDC and Sucker should be able to make the list in about 2-4 weeks. Never would've thought this was gonna happen just 1 month ago.
And that has me thinking, anyone know which YE chart had the most repeats from the previous year?

^ 1997, 2010, 2016, 2018 all 14 each
Here's an estimation of where the dropped out songs so far might place on the 2020 year end list, based on where they would've finished in 2019 (although that was a ridiculously low cutoff)
Hot - 85 Panini - 90 All I Want For Christmas Is You - 91 Even Though I'm Leaving - 94

IDC and Sucker should be able to make the list in about 2-3 weeks. uhh Sucker is gonna need at least 4 more weeks to have a chance at repeating, and even then it will still be on the borderline

I think regarding Sucker it will be kind of like Believer in 2018 just barely squeezing on at #100

Did I miss anything? I meant more of in the Top 20. Aside from the box topping the charts, there haven't been that many surprises in the upper part of the charts. Things like Pussy Fairy, the Rodeo remix, and even BROCKHAMPTON debuting on the charts might be weird but they weren't news worthy or got people talking outside of their fanbases. Look to 2019 when I mean surprise: The Jonas Brothers debuting at number one, Lady Gaga having a number one hit, a country rap song breaking the record for the longest week on the charts. Or 2017; the idea of Top 20 hits for Spanish songs, Childish Gambino and a rapper named Cardi B, if you told someone February of that year that those things would happen, people would've asked how.

They dominated 2013/2014 with "Radioactive" and the other singles from their debut album Night Visions (such as "Demons" and "It's Time"). However, their sophomore album, Smoke + Mirrors, severely underperformed and had no chart hit, so 2015 and 2016 were devoid of Imagine Dragons (with the exception of "Sucker For Pain", which was more due to the Suicide Squad soundtrack hype than anything else). Then, "Believer" was released as lead single for their third album, and the rest is history. ๐ Not similar circumstances, surely, but both can be considered as 'comebacks' to some extent.

Oh, that's why. I agree with that, "Night Visions" and "Radioactive" was everywhere in 2013/2014, then suddenly, "Smoke and Mirrors" under-performed (although I like "Shots") and served a hiatus for like 2 years (excluding "Sucker For Pain", which was also good). Then, all of a sudden, they returned with "Believer".

the only thing that could allow for the I Donโt Care at 99 and Sucker at 100 scenario in my eyes is if I Donโt Care drops out before Sucker does (itโs currently 25k ahead in my predictions), which doesnโt seem possible to me seeing as theyโre dropping at about the same rate and I Donโt Care is still a few spots ahead of Sucker

What would be really funny is if I Don't Care was Bieber's highest song on the year end list. Almost impossible but you never know!
