The most inconsistent pop star of the last few years! No doubt about it, she only gets the big hits when they nab the right songs for her. She does not have a large fanbase nor a built in audience that would guarantee immediate success, even after such a strong and orchestrated push from her label. Her entire career has been song driven, with βHavana,β kicking off her career, βSenoritaβ bridging it, and βMy Oh Myβ currently bringing us to the next base. Everything else sheβs released really doesnβt matter. As for the video, it would be smart anyway for the label to hold off on releasing it. This is probably the best explanation of her career. Sheβs a bit of a βsmokes and mirrorsβ popstar where she only really exists when thereβs a hit. I think they were trying to break her out of that with the βRomanceβ album and give her some sort of personality with meaning, she herself has said she feels forced trying to be sexy so the fact that all the other promo singles (and really any single with meaning) failed to resonate and the one where sheβs selling sex is... is a bit of a mess because there is the underlying knowledge by everyone on her team now that nobody really wants substance from her. Her personality/image is pretty disliked so I guess the stronger the disconnection to her material being personal (like this song is), the better the results might be. They prob need to capitalize off this and rush a new upbeat album out by summer. I mean, realistically, for a new female marketed as s.symbol, a string of easy-to-digest microwave bops should probably be mandatory for at least one solid era. Hopefully they'll finally get the hint with this doing well and restart the microwave sooner rather than later before the entire meal gets stale and is no longer gewd I don't know about being sexy being what works for her. I think we all know what works for her. Latin/pop and perhaps alternative/pop, and occasionally a one off single in a more traditional pop/dance genre like Find U Again. She needs to stay in that lane, but the songs need to actually be good. She's trying too hard to be like Taylor Swift, in my opinion. That won't work for her. |

While we're at it, is anyone here visualizing what a potential music video might look like? I really loved the creative aesthetic chosen for the lyric video, but I have no idea which theme she'll go for the music video.
I just hope it won't be inspired by the high school girl look from the live performance, since that would have some awkward connotations given the lyrics of the song.

I can see them doing something big for the music video (along the lines of Havana), they need this song to be big to save the era. The direction they take will probably depend on whether DaBaby ends up being in it too.

Camila seems like she's singing songs that are given to her that she will make good or better where Taylor is creating them herself. The colour aesthetic from the Fallon performance is quite amazing, and it could work pretty well for a choreo driven music video. However, if we want a storyline based music video, she could make something really groundbreaking with the visuals she posted before the album (assuming you're talking about the steampunk/mythology-inspired visuals she posted before announcing "Liar" and "Shameless"). After all, both "Havana" and "SeΓ±orita" benefitted greatly from strong music videos (and the latter's actually makes me tolerate the song a bit since it gives an intriguing storyline and premise to the barebones lyrics). |
